global container shipping lines have signed up to use itsnew IAS InterTurn street turn service to match supply anddemand for empty domestic containers.

The l ines include CMA CGM, Mediterranean Ship-ping Co. and U.S. Lines. Oakland-based IAS said InterTurn, part of the IASHub system, can help carriers reduce the size of theircontainer fleets through faster equipment turns. The serv-ice also helps support carrier efforts to lessen their envi-ronmental impact by cutting the number of containermoves.

The company said InterTurn can aisc be used bytrucking companies to avoid hours-long delays at terminalgates, make m ore revenue-producing runs, use fuel moreefficiently and minimize empty vehicle miles. It said shippers also benefit from being able toscurce containers "on the street."
