11:00 Broadcasting Perspective: Games as a Spectator Medium
One of the most interesting aspects of the esports ecosystem is the broadcast side. We’re all aware of the 2010 conflict between Blizzard and the Korea e-sports Association (KeSPA) for the broadcast of StarCraft2 and controversy that can cause. However, recently other major names have taken strides to secure media stream broadcast of eSports games. Turner have started their eSports league for CS:GO and ESPN showed off a Heroes of the Storm tournament earlier this year. In this discussion we look at where eSports broadcasting is going and why traditional broadcasters are looking to lock eSports into their strategy. Does eSports even need television, for example? We aim to find out.
Presented by: Sebastian Läger, Head of eSports, GAMESHOW
11:40 Game Develop Case Study: What’s The Definition of Success in eSports?
Let’s look at the role of the eSports publisher. Should publishers look to bring the entire ecosystem in-house? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Riot, Blizzard and Valve approaches? How do we feel these approaches impact the competitive integrity of each ecosystem? How do a publishers actions impact the longevity and sustainability of the esports ecosystem for a game? How do these models impact interactions between publishers and other parties in the ecosystem (organizers, teams, and players)? What issues can arise from over- or under-involvement of the publisher? Should the buck ultimately stop with publishers – Or, would it be beneficial for the ecosystem to have a neutral governing body that acts above the publisher? Is that even feasible?
If you were to run a publisher, which path would you take and why?

The Ticket Fairy • www.theticketfairy.com The Ticket Fairy is a ticketing, rewards and audience intelligence platform. We allow eSports and gaming event organizers (we already work with TwitchCon and FACEIT) to increase revenues to the order of 15-30%,
by incentivizing their attendees to spread word of mouth once they’ve bought their own tickets, also helping to discover key influencers and potential ambassadors. Ticket buyers can check out with their Twitch, FACEIT or Facebook accounts, creating a rich set of demographic information, including attendees’ lifestyle preferences and music streaming history, helping to curate content and talent. The platform also mitigates secondary market scalping for high-demand events via a trusted, closed-loop resale system that matches buyers and sellers, enabling them to transfer tickets at face value.
