To our supporters,

It is an honor to speak on the behalf of all the student scholarship recipients, including myself, to say thank you for the generous support that you continually show the Indiana University Southeast students. Even though we cannot be together this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am happy to have the opportunity to share my experience and gratitude with you.

I did not foresee the magnitude of commendation surrounding this award prior to writing my application. Upon receiving my congratulations letter, I had to take a seat to reflect on what I had just read. This award has gifted me the ability to lower my student debt prior to beginning my graduate program to become a licensed psychologist. Without the support of donors like you, achieving this honor and recognition would not have been possible.

Receiving the Chancellor’s Medallion Scholarship has provided me with unlimited opportunities. The scholarship has allowed me to work part-time instead of seeking full-time employment to help pay for my degree, which has directly contributed to my academic success. Focusing on my academics, gaining experience in my field of study, and being a research assistant are just some of the things this scholarship has made possible for me. Indiana University Southeast has been my home for the last three years and has made an unbreakable foundation on which I will start my professional career.

The time I have spent as an undergraduate is more than just a degree to me. Being able to build lifelong relationships with other students and professors is something that I will take with me as I move forward into my career. Indiana University Southeast has provided me with the necessary skills to become a leader and to better serve our communities. Being able to build my network the way I have would not have happened without Indiana University Southeast. I am, and will always be, thankful to be a Grenadier!

Welcome to the 2020 Indiana University Southeast Chancellor’s Medallion Celebration!

The Chancellor’s Medallion Celebration is IU Southeast’s largest fundraising event of the year. Every dollar raised goes directly to provide scholarships for our most commendable students.

This is my sixth Medallion Celebration, and this year things will be quite different as we are having the event virtually due to the pandemic. However, the impact of your contributions does not change. Your contributions are the major reason why eight deserving students are celebrating their scholarships. We can make no better investment in our region than supporting our future leaders.

It is important to emphasize that IU Southeast is instrumental in the economic and cultural development of Southern Indiana and the greater Louisville area. Our beautiful 180-acre campus plays an increasingly important role in the development

of the intellectual, economic and cultural core of our region. More than three-quarters of our graduates remain in our communities to live, work and raise their families. Therefore, your scholarship dollars do directly affect our towns, municipalities and our businesses.

This event is also special because we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chancellor’s Medallion and Indiana University’s bicentennial year. Consequently, we have chosen to celebrate and focus on IU Southeast’s previous recipients and their collective, ongoing impact on the university and the region. We owe a debt of gratitude to their contributions to the community and their support of IU Southeast and our students.

As a special tribute for their support of Indiana University, and to acknowledge Indiana University’s bicentennial year celebration, the past Chancellor’s Medallion recipients will each receive IU Bicentennial Medals. The Bicentennial Medal is a limited edition award, presented to organizations and individuals who, through their personal, professional, artistic or philanthropic efforts, have broadened the reach of Indiana University around the state, nation and world. The medals themselves are unique, made from materials salvaged from the old bells that hung in the Student Building on the IU Bloomington campus, giving recipients a lasting piece of IU history.

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of IU Southeast, please accept our sincerest appreciation for your support of the 2020 Chancellor’s Medallion through this tumultuous time.

The Chancellor’s Medallion is the highest honor presented by the Chancellor of IU Southeast. Given each year at the Medallion Dinner, this honor is bestowed upon individuals who exemplify the following virtues:

• Rendering distinguished service to the University and to the community• Giving freely of their talents in the promotion of human welfare and community well-being

• Serving as exemplary role models for students and alumni through their integrity, leadership, and commitment

Past Recipients of the Chancellor’s Medallion Award

This year, to celebrate the 200th year of Indiana University, we are excited to present our Medallion recipients with the Indiana University Bicentennial Medal honoring distinguished and distinctive service in support of Indiana University.

The Bicentennial Medal is awarded to organizations and individuals who, through their personal, professional, artistic, or philanthropic efforts, have broadened the reach of Indiana University around the state, nation, and world.

Those receiving the Bicentennial Medal should be seen as models for future students, faculty, alumni, and organizations to emulate as IU enters its Third Century.

The medals themselves are unique, designed by Jeeyea Kim, lecturer in IU’s School of Art, Architecture + Design, and made from materials salvaged from the old bells which hung in the Student Building on the IU Bloomington campus,

giving recipients a lasting piece of IU history.

CAMILLE GREENWELLis from Fort Branch, Indiana, and is a junior at IU Southeast majoring in business with a concentration in human resource management. Her goal is to become a director of human resources one day. She participates in several

organizations on campus, including Alpha Phi and the women’s tennis team.

JOSEPH WOODSis studying biology at IU Southeast. He’s from Oldham County, Kentucky, and he is the vice president of the Pre-Med Society at IU Southeast. In the future, he hopes to combine his love of healthcare and the military and become

a military doctor. His hobbies include fishing, hiking and kayaking.

HANNAH SHAFFERis studying business with a double concentration in human resource management and general management. She is also minoring in accounting. She is from Hanover, Indiana, and participates in many clubs and organizations on

campus, including the Honors Program, Crimson Crew, Peer Mentoring and the Society for Human Resource Management. In the future, she hopes to get an M.B.A. from IU Southeast and to work in human resource analytics.

RENA ANDREWSis from New Orleans, Louisiana. She currently studies psychology with a minor in sociology. She is a member of the IU Southeast Gamers Society. Her future goal is to open her own practice and work with adolescents in both

therapy and assessment testing.

JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

ADAM BEASLEYis majoring in business management and minoring in entrepreneurship at IU Southeast. He grew up in English, Indiana, and attended Crawford County High School where he graduated in 2017. Adam currently works on his

grandfather’s cattle farm as a farm hand. He enjoys playing sports, especially basketball and tennis, and hanging out with friends.

BRADLEY CROSS is from Jeffersonville, Indiana. In high school, he was a member of the tennis team, golf team and a member of First Christian Church Youth Group. Bradley is currently studying economics at IU Southeast and is a member of

the tennis team and Economics Club. After graduating, he plans to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in economics or data analytics.

CORY M. BYERSis from Seymour, Indiana. Cory’s passion to help others led to his decision to pursue psychology with a minor in criminal justice and history. Cory hopes to use his experiences to make a difference in the mental

health community. After graduation, Cory will pursue his master’s and doctoral degrees with aspirations to become a clinical psychologist with a background in research.

AMANDA GOODRIDGEis from Floyds Knobs, Indiana and is a junior at IU Southeast majoring in computer science with a minor in business. Her goal is to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from IU Southeast in 2020 and continue her studies at IU

Bloomington for a master’s degree in cybersecurity risk management.

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

The Chancellor’s Medallion Scholarship is awarded each year to outstanding juniors and seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and perseverance both at IU Southeast and in the community. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Students are selected for this prestigious award based on extra-curricular and civic activities and leadership, letters of recommendation, an essay and other special accomplishments.
