"As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied

grace" (1 Pt 4:10).

To Be a Christian Steward A Summary of the U.S. Bishops' Pastoral Letter on

Stewardship What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human resources and using them responsibly

are one answer; so is generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But being a Christian steward

means more. As Christian stewards, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly,

share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord.

Disciples as Stewards Let us begin with being a disciple—a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. As members of the Church, Jesus calls us to be disciples. This has astonishing implications:

• Mature disciples make a conscious decision to follow Jesus, no matter what the cost.

• Christian disciples experience conversion—lifeshaping changes of mind and heart—and commit their very selves to the Lord.

• Christian stewards respond in a particular way to the call to be a disciple. Stewardship has the power to shape and mold our understanding of our lives and the way in which we live.

Jesus' disciples and Christian stewards recognize God as the origin of life, giver of freedom, and

source of all things. We are grateful for the gifts we have received and are eager to use them to show our love for God and for one another. We look to

the life and teaching of Jesus for guidance in living as Christian stewards.

FAITH FORMATION

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

Rom. 13:8-9 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

ʻAnoʻai Kākou,

As always, we are ever vigilant in our studies, prayers, and efforts to help the community. Originally when we began, I imagined that the problems we must overcome were doubt, despair, and selfishness. After all our efforts for so long, all our accomplishments and failures, I have come to understand that our biggest barriers to change are fear, pride, and apathy. We continue to learn and evolve our plans and efforts accordingly, with positive results beginning... On Sundays at 4:30pm, all young adults are invited to the gathering and fellowship at the courtyard. Then at 5:00pm, there’s a choir practice to prepare for the 6:00pm mass. Hope to see you all there. On Sunday, September 17 after the 6 PM mass the Bishop will meet with the youth, young adults and those in the 6 PM mass who are the young adults. There will be something light to eat. The Bishop would like to hear from these groups and they in turn can ask him questions about the church or any other things that they want to find out about in the Catholic faith. Check out our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/YoungAdultsMinistry.Honolulu

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 17, 2017. The 2017 theme will be "Living as Missionary Disciples." Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Our Faith Formation ministry at Sts. Peter and Paul will accompany all those who journey as missionary disciples.

Bishop Larry Silva will commission our catechists at the 9am mass on Sunday, September 17. The faith formation classes will celebrate mass with the bishop at the 9am mass so there will be no classes this Sunday. Classes will resume next Sunday, September 24. We encourage all families to join us. In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples (cf. Mt 28:19)….The new evangelization calls for personal involvement on the part of each of the baptized. Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God's saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love. Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are "disciples" and "missionaries", but rather that we are always "missionary disciples". (Evangellii Gaudium, 119)

Youth Ministry Update

The recently Confirmed youth have been continuously meeting twice a month to build and share their faith with each other. They have also been carefully planning their first service project together, preparing gifts for children who are ill. The monetary donation that was collected at their Confirmation Mass will be used to purchase gifts that they decided to donate to children staying at Kapiolani Medical Center. Some of the gifts include totes, prayer cards, games, and arts & crafts for all ages. The youth ministry hope that these donations will bring smiles to the brave young patients in the hospital.
