Challenge

Users accessing internet thru mobile phones while shopping or at coffee shops in mall is a growing trend. Majid Al Futtaim Group (MAF) required an apt solution for providing free wi-fi access in complete area of Deira City Centre Mall.

International FZC, clearly listed the requirements of MAF, “We require a solution that allows user to self-register them by s imply f i l l ing necessary detai ls for authentication and to receive password by SMS for access login. On successful login, user should be able to access free wi-fi throughout the mall area. The solution should be able to create different internet packages for different denominations, that is, time based or volume based. User should be deleted from the system after 90 days of his/her last login. The solution should continuously track websites and applications surfed by users and should be capable to create complete reports of user's usage to easily evaluate about their activities and to ensure about network security. The solution should be such that supports High Availability technology to smartly tackle all user-requests traffic and network issues”.

Solution

To fulfil complete requirements, 24online offered its Hotspot Management Solution designed with ideal features and configured in different modes like AAA and Access Gateway.

24online AAA and Access Gateway

24online AAA will create users, policies, and packages required and will store complete user's details. User authentication, authorization and accounting will be performed by AAA and Access Gateway will help to display captive portal pages for carrying out the authentication process. Fair distribution and management of bandwidth according to the internet plan will be done by Access Gateway.

Captive Portal Capabilities

With 24online captive portal capabilities, you can define separate templates for pre-login and post-login pages. Mobile users in a mall can register themselves by entering necessary details in a customized pre-login captive portal page. Customized fields can be added dynamically on page as per the requirements and on receiving details; username and password will be sent to

user automatically via SMS. On entering credentials on captive portal page, user will be allowed to login and easily access network.

Bandwidth and Package Management

24online's bandwidth management functionality allows defining minimum and maximum bandwidth to be allowed for each plan. Also, bandwidth restriction can be done after certain amount of data usage or after certain usage time period. 24online allows admin to create different type of plans based on time or usage pattern of the users.

Data Transfer Module

Data transfer module helps in defining quota limit to be allocated for each user or a package. With allocated quota, user can be degraded after certain defined amount of quota is consumed.

High Availability

24online High Availability technology helps to smartly handle user-requests traffic as well as network issues by automatically transferring traffic to the secondary appliance. It benefits in increasing the service credibility, preventing the huge data-loss, and providing continuous connection as well as security service reducing downtime in services and to add customer satisfaction.

Websurfing logger and Reporting

24online offers an advanced feature – Web surfing logger, by which an easy tracking of websites and applications surfed by students can be done. This feature is complied with the instructions issued by the government bodies. With the help of this module, regular reports in printable and graphical format can be obtained listing down the surfing details of each user. Moreover, it also helps to ensure about network security and in case of any malicious activity occurrence it makes easy to evaluate by reviewing reports stored in the system.

SMS Gateway

This allows creating customized SMS template to send SMS to users with username and password details at the time of their registration.
