With the holidays approaching, Brendan Parnell was anxious to get a picture of 5-week old Audrey underneath the Christmas tree. The goal was to travel from Athens, GA to Los Angeles, CA and convince MTV's popular show, "Pimp My Ride" to customize Darius' wheelchair. The resulting film of this all-male road trip is heartwarming and hilarious. Last September through May, Darius and the crew (me included) hit the road again and visited hundreds of middle and high schools in 42 states, sharing our film and doing Q&As with students (who are among our biggest supporters). At many schools, students went crazy over meeting Darius. In fact, one teenager in Syracuse, NY declared, "This is better than the Jonas Brothers," then almost fainted. Haha. Moms also love this film because it teaches so many valuable life lessons. While designed to raise awareness of DMD, this movie is really more about friendship, brotherhood, setting (and reaching) impossible goals, and how doing for others can be so much fun. I first realized the power of beautiful clothing one day in kindergarten. On this day, my mom dressed me in one of the many beautiful dresses my aunt had made for me. This particular dress was pink with red straps, atop layers and layers of red, yellow, and green tulle. As I walked onto the bus that day, a girl from each side grabbed my arms and fought over who would sit next to me. In hindsight, it was a very impractical dress --- but it was every little girl's dream dress --- I was a princess all day. Needless to say, I have loved fashion ever since. Flash forward to 2008, I travel frequently and I go to a variety of events that usually call for an assortment of clothing. I just love the way the right outfit can make a special event even more special, how the most comfortable clothing can make a sporting event more fun, and how the right jewelry can make an older dress seem new again.
