Operates in async orsync mode at data rates from19.2 to 256kbps.

Supports 1300-nm single mode fibre or 850-nmmultimode fiber connections.

RS-530 digital interface.

Diagnostic V.54 loops and built-in V.52 BERT.

K eep your long-range data linkssecure with the Sync/Async

Fibre Optic Modem from BlackBox. It provides a fibre linkbetween computers, routers, multiplexors, and other data-communications devices.

This handy modem adapts tomeet your needs: it operates at16selectable synchronous orasynchronous data rates from19.2 kbps to 256 kbps.

The Fibre Optic Modemconverts electrical signals from

DTEequipment into opticalsignals via an infrared light-emitting diode. At the oppositeend of the fibre, the optical signalsare converted back into RS-530electrical signals.

Link your RS-530 datacomm devices over 850-nm multimode or 1300-nm single-mode fibreoptic cable.

Key Features

SYNC/ ASYNC FIB RE OPTIC M ODEM

The Fibre Optic Modem isdesigned to operate with thefollowing sizes and grades of cable:

•850 nm for use withmultimode fibres, or

•1300 nm for use with single-mode fibers.

Fibre optic cable providesimmunity against electricalinterference, such aselectromagnetic interference(EMI) and radio-frequencyinterference (RFI), spikes, anddifferential ground loops. Even inhazardous or hostile environ-ments, fibre optic cable maintainsa secure link and protects against

sparking and lightning. The Fibre Optic Modem

provides three clocking modes formaximum flexibility:internal clock,

receive loopback clock, andexternal DTEclock.

What’s more, the Fibre OpticModem uses a Phase LockedLoop (PLL)circuit to recover jitter-free data and clock from theoptical signal.

V.54 diagnostics are used forlocal analog and digitalloopbacks, and remote digitalloopback. The loopbackcommands are controlled eitherby a manual switch, or via the DTEinterface signals. A front-panelswitch generates an internalpseudo-random test pattern

(511-bit) according to the ITU V.52standard, for testing end-to-endconnectivity. An Error LEDflasheswhenever the Modem detects abit error.
