In addition, the following fundamental computer science topics will be covered:• Computer Systems• Algorithm Design• Programming• Computational methods

You will use various programming environments to create programs, applications and also controlled electronic devices to develop the principles of computational thinking along with the study of computer systems, from digital logic and electronics through Java C and C programming up to using a physics engine to create a computer game.

Year TwoIn your second year, you will develop a broader understanding and knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of Computer

Science, reflecting on more specialist areas within the discipline. Specific topics will be covered in greater depth with an emphasis on programming and applications development, and database technology. Other topics studied include:• Computer Networks • Operating systems • Website Development

Year ThreeYour final year will focus on your dissertation in an area of your choice, but you will also study topics such as software engineering, innovations in Computer Science, and computer security and communications. Other topics studied may include:• Immersive technologies (VR/AR

and MR)• Internet of Things• Advanced Web Technologies• AI• Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing

COURSE STRUCTURE Teaching on this degree isstructured into lectures, seminarsand tutorials. You also have theopportunity to have a one-to-onemeeting with your tutor eachweek. You spend your third yearon placement.

If you are studying ComputerScience as a Single Honoursdegree, in your first year of studyyou will have approximately 12teaching hours per week, whichreduces to approximately 11 hoursin your second and third years.

If you are studying ComputerScience as a Combined Honoursdegree, in your first year of studythere are approximately 6 teachinghours each week, which reduces toapproximately 5 teaching hours inyour second and fourth years. On top of teaching hours, you arealso expected to spend a numberof hours studying independentlyeach week, as well as working ingroups to prepare for any groupassessments you may have.
