Hatchet  or Lost Trail 

In literature class, we recently read two books – a fictionalized survival story called Hatchet  and a real-life survival sto

called Lost Trail . A close look at the stories will reveal if a fictionalized story is as good as a real-life story. One obvious

difference between Donn’s story Lost Trail ! and "rian’s story Hatchet ! is the a#ount of days they were lost. Donn was

lost in the $aine woods for nine days, but "rian was lost in the %anadian wilderness for fifty-four days. Another #ore

significant difference was how the #ain characters reacted to their situations. Donn’s only &lan was to walk to civilization

however, "rian knew that he had to #ake a shelter, &re&are hunting and fishing gear, and build a raft to get to the &lane.

in describing "rian’s situations. I got a #ore vivid &icture of what "rian had to endure.
