The goal of worship
• To bring a person to the point of changing their life so that God becomes “Lord over,” “First in,” or “victorious through” that immediate event and following.
• This sometimes happens in singing, sermons but most often through prayer.EVERYTHING in the service must make this happen.
Worship• This is not something that happens just once but is on-
going and sought for throughout life.• It is most highly valued by God when a sinner arrives at
this point but it is expected of the saints.• Church services strive hard to lead as many sinners into this experience as possible by demonstrating the awesome power of this experience during all that is done in the service –Lights, banners, bulletins, sound, song, prayers, video, TV, drama, announcements, offerings, sermons, altar-calls, etc.
Training for Team Three
Worship Leaders
By: Dr. Owen C. Weston
Vision Worship Leaders:
To provide the love acceptance, friendliness and compassion of
Christ to the stranger first and all those who come through the
doors of our church and play the music that will make them want
to be involved in worship.
Worship should be...• A spiritual experience so
exciting that members want to invite their unchurched friends.
55% of those who go to church were first invited by someone they knew.
63% of those who do not go to church have never been invited by a friend or acquaintance.
Worship should be...
At its peak, worship should motivate people to do something! Too often we go too long with the music and the preaching. Stop at the peak and move into ministry or allow the gifts to flow.
It’s better to quit your preaching, teaching, singing, etc. before they tire of it!
We need to work with people and stop with a “thirst for more” still left with them
Worship should be...• Requirements of
Worship:Worship must be culturally
relevantWorship must be done wellWorship needs a proper
environment (be aware of space)
Worship must be creativeWorship must be innovative
(e.g. dramatized announcements)
