From The Principal’s DeskOver the past ten days I have had thepleasure of meeting with some exceptionalteachers and students from our school.Much of my time as Principal is spent inadministrivia, and reactionary work, so it isalways a pleasure to get involved with someof the really special stuff we do here.
Last Friday, the school was confirmed asthe best school in Queensland for
innovation, winning the prestigious Department of Education,Training and Employment Showcase Award for our Hair andBeauty program. A certificate, a trophy and $20,000 all serve toreward the staff and students for their amazing efforts over thepast seven years of the program.
On Monday I spent the day in conversation with another set ofwonderful young people when I met with the nominees for Year12 school leadership positions for 2015. Their ideas, knowledgeand passion for the school are to be commended, and I’m reallylooking forward to working with whomever of them are finallyelected to the positions.
Also on Monday, I was pleased to accompany Sara Fishburnfrom Year 10 when she attended the UQ campus in Ipswichto receive the paperwork confirming her status as a UQ YoungScholar in 2015 and 2016. Sara will receive a financial bursaryduring her senior years and a significant annual scholarship ifshe attends UQ post-school.
Congratulations to everyone involved in all the excellentprograms and activities we are proud to foster at our school.
Many of the Year 7 and 8 Excellence Programs for 2015 arenearing capacity, so if you haven’t enrolled yet, please do so oryou may miss out on your first choice. Enrolment sessions arelisted elsewhere in this newsletter.
Thank you for continuing to expect your student to attendall day, every day. It really does make a difference when thepartnership between home and school is a productive one.
