We are most eager to help anyone who is unable to join us at Mass because of illness,
handicap, or age. Any parishioner in need of anointing of the sick, sacramental care at
home, assisted living, hospital or care facility, please call the Parish Office.
FLOCKNOTE is a great tool that we're using that
lets you choose what info you'd like to receive - via
email or text message - from the various ministries
and groups in our church. You can unsubscribe any
time.
There are 2 easy ways to connect (pick one):
Visit our church at: flocknote.com/StKatharineDrexelParish2
or Text drexelct to 84576
from your phone to subscribe
If you do not receive envelopes but
would like to, please contact the parish
office at 860-224-2411 and we will be
happy to assist you.
We are keeping up with technology! Our parish
provides Online Giving as an electronic tool for
contributions so you can give via the Internet. Online
Giving helps you maintain your giving even if you
cannot be here at Mass. This also helps the parish
streamline our cash flow, especially during bad
weather or vacation times. Go to our parish website at

My Dear Friends,
Today is the birthday of our Blessed Mother. Mary, of course, was conceived without Original Sin, the
privilege given to her that we commemorate on December 8th, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
That feast day is of greater importance, for two reasons.
The first is that life begins at conception, so we do right by honoring Mary at the moment she was
conceived in the womb of St. Anne. Second, she was conceived without sin, full of grace as the Sacred
Scripture says and as we repeat in the recitation of the Hail Mary prayer.
But just as our Lord’s humanity and divinity are veiled under the appearance of bread and wine, our
humanity is veiled within the womb of our mother until she gives birth. We are no less human in the womb
than outside of the womb, but birth is an unveiling of the great mystery and miracle of life that has occurred
with the help of God through the procreative act. Other animals reproduce. Humans procreate. God has
given us a body and a soul, and he fashions each one of us in the womb when we are conceived in the
“marital act.” Biology may say it takes the man and woman to bring forth new life, but we as Christians know
that it is the man, the woman, and the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, that is present at the first
moment of life in the womb.
We rightfully celebrate the day of our birth, but the day of our birth is not the first day of our life. It is
the culmination of the life that began in the womb at the moment of conception and the nine months of
being nourished and cared for by the person we call mother. On this birthday celebration of our Blessed
Mother, let us honor her with a spiritual bouquet by praying a rosary. The rosary is nothing more than a love
letter to our Blessed Mother as we say how much we love her fifty three times as we meditate on the
mysteries of our Lord’s life, death and Resurrection. Happy birthday, Mary. Pray for us who have recourse to
thee.
May God Bless ,
Father John
