We celebrate our Na- tional Day on 23rd March every year to commemo- rate the historic Pakistan Resolution adopted in Lahore in 1940 demand- ing a Muslim state in the South Asian Sub-Conti- nent. The story of Pakistan’s independence struggle is a manifestation of deter- mination and sacrifices rendered by the Muslims of South Asia under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muham- mad Ali Jinnah. Let us, therefore, express our gratitude to Allah Al- mighty, who has blessed us with a homeland with tremendous human and natural resources. We pay homage to the Father of Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and his comrades who worked tirelessly during the Pakistan Movement and secured a homeland for the Muslims of South Asia. Today, we renew our resolve to put in all our efforts to overcome the challenges that our coun- try is facing by following the footsteps of our great leaders and realization of our cherished goals and objectives. Pakistani Nation is cel- ebrating the 76th An- niversary of Pakistan Resolution; adopted on 23rd March 1940 under the inspiring leadership of Quaid- e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. It changed the course of our his- tory. The dream was achieved in the form of Pakistan as an inde- pendent country de- spite great opposition and challenges. The struggle was for a state where the principles of social justice and equality could prevail to ensure peace, toler- ance and prosperity in accordance with the religious beliefs and cultural values of its citizens. Today, we stand determined to preserve and protect this country for our future generations. The resolution galva- nized the nation and millions of people sac- rificed their lives for the sake of independ- ence. Pakistan was a reality within a short span of time. Today we are confronted with unprecedented threats and challenges in the form of extrem- ism and terrorism, 23rd March is the Day to renew our commitment to develop the country in accordance with the prin- ciples of justice and eq- uity, the real objective of the creation of Pakistan. On this auspicious occa- sion, we pay tribute to the Father of the Nation and other leaders of the Freedom Movement who facilitated the creation of Pakistan by uniting the nation through their ear- nestness, wisdom and un- paralleled sacrifices. Let me remind you on this important occasion that Pakistan came into being through a long democratic struggle and now the key to its sta- bility and development also lies in democracy. Therefore, it is essential to promote the spirit of tolerance and patience which are the fundamen- tals of democracy so that the existing challenges of extremism and terrorism can be overcome by the nation. It is an unfortunate real- ity that terrorism has af- fected all segments of the Pakistani society.
