23.9.2007To celebrate the University’s 70th Anniversary and HKSAR’s 10th Anniversary, PolyU staged the “Flags of Harmony and Unity” event with support of the Scout Association of Hong Kong, drawing 21,726 members and friends of the PolyU community and scouts to form the largest national flag and HKSAR flag in the world. It has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest human flags. (Please see p.16-17 for details)

A group of 80 officers from the SAR garrison of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) visited PolyU. This historic visit fell within the period in celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the establishment of PLA, HKSAR’s 10th Anniversary as well as PolyU’s 70th Anniversary.

理大接待了中國人民解放軍駐港部隊的八十位年輕官兵到校園參觀。適逢解放軍建軍八十周年、香港特區慶祝成立十周年和理大建校七十周年紀念，令這次駐港部隊的訪問更添歷史意義。

9.11.2007The University held a glittering gala dinner in celebration of its 70th Anniversary at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The memorable occasion was attended by the Chief Executive and PolyU Chancellor Dr Donald Tsang Yum-kuen, who was the Guest of Honour. More than 2,000 friends and members of PolyU joined the spectacular event.

10.11.2007The University, which has been designated as a strategic partner for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has further strengthened its collaboration with national sports authorities by signing a new pact to extend its provision of sports rehabilitation services and health care to the national sports squads beyond the Beijing Olympics.

理大繼成為國家指定備戰京奧合作夥伴後，進一步與國家體育機構簽訂另一項協議，把雙方的合作關係延伸至北京奧運會之後，以確立長遠合作關係。

1.12.2007The University sent forth 9,740 graduates in the 13th Congregation held at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Of these, 3,409 received awards at postgraduate level, while 6,332 were recipients of Bachelor’s degree or sub-degree awards. A total of 745 academic awards were conferred on mainland graduates.

本校假香港體育館舉行第十三屆畢業禮，頒授學術榮銜予約九千七百四十名畢業生，其中三千四百零九人獲頒高等學銜，六千三百三十二人獲頒學士、非學位文憑及證書。應屆畢業生中也包括七百四十五名內地畢業生。

17.11.2007The PolyU-affiliated Hong Kong Community College officially opened its first purpose-built campus in Hung Hom Bay. The campus, which is landscaped with ample greeneries and spacious communal areas, has been granted the Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method Gold Award, in recognition of its environmental protection and energy saving measures during construction and operation stages.

理大轄下香港專上學院為其位於紅磡灣的首個獨立校園舉行開幕典禮。紅磡灣校園設有多處綠化公共空間，因而獲得香港建築環境評估法金獎，表示校舍由興建到落成運作階段，都符合可持續環境保育及節省能源建築物的要求。

10.12.2007The Institute of Textiles and Clothing celebrated its 50th Anniversary at a Gala Dinner with Dr Chan Sui-kau, Chairman of Yangtzekiang Company Ltd, as the Guest of Honour.

理大紡織及製衣學系舉行晚宴慶祝成立五十周年，並邀得長江製衣廠有限公司主席陳瑞球博士擔任主禮嘉賓。

12.12.2007PolyU has appointed world-renowned architect Ms Zaha Hadid as the Architect of its new “Innovation Tower”. This building will be her first permanent architectural work in Hong Kong.

理大委任了國際知名的殿堂級建築師Zaha Hadid女士設計「創新樓」，該大樓將會是她首個在香港的固定建築項目。

17.4.2008PolyU’s Faculty of Business (FB) has again been listed among the world’s top business schools in the latest independent ranking exercise conducted by University of Texas at Dallas, testifying to FB’s strength in achieving world-class academic excellence.

11.1.2008A delegation of 21 UGC members led by the Chairman, Mrs Laura M Cha, visited the University. They were shown PolyU’s highly impressive research developments which have significant impacts on the community.

17.12.2007The University won a record number of awards in the Brussels Eureka 2007 held in Belgium. PolyU won four Gold, one Silver and one Bronze Medals as well as three Special Prizes in this international exhibition.

理大科研人員於比利時布魯塞爾舉行的第五十六屆世界創新科技博覽會中勇奪四項金獎、一項銀獎、一項銅獎及三項特別獎，創下本校參展以來獲獎最高紀錄。

28.4.2008PolyU won nine awards in the International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products held in Geneva, including the International Press Prize, one Grand Award, three Gold and two Silver Medals as well as two Special Prizes.

21.6.2008The signing of a landmark agreement by PolyU and Sichuan University has paved the way for the establishment of the Sichuan Post-disaster Reconstruction Support and Research Centre in the province. This initiative has won $10 million support from business tycoon Dr Tsang Hin-chi, founder of Goldlion Group and former Standing Committee Member of the National People’s Congress.

理大與四川大學簽訂協議，成立「四川地震災後重建支援及研究中心」，積極支援四川省「五一二地震」的災後重建工作。該中心並獲金利來集團創辦人及前全國人大常委曾憲梓博士率先慨捐一千萬元支持。

30.5.2008PolyU and The Chinese University of Hong Kong have jointly established The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre with a generous donation of $88.72 million from the Club’s Charities Trust.

理大及香港中文大學喜獲賽馬會慈善信託基金捐款八千八百七十二萬元，成立「香港賽馬會運動醫學及健康科學中心」。

21.4.2008The University Council announced the appointment of Prof. Timothy W. Tong, Dean of School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the George Washington University in the United States, as the new President with effect from 1 January 2009. Prof. Tong will succeed Prof. Poon Chung-kwong who will be retiring from the presidency at the end of the year after completing 18 years of distinguished service at PolyU. On 23 September 2007, a total of 21,726 members of the PolyU community, its friends and supporters and Scouts joined hands to set a new world record by forming the largest PRC and HKSAR flags at the Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground. Entitled “Flags of Harmony and Unity”, the event was not only the largest activity to celebrate PolyU’s 70th Anniversary, but also an Accredited Event to commemorate HKSAR’s 10th Anniversary. Apart from demonstrating the unity and the “can do” spirit of Hong Kong people, the event also raised funds in support of the University, education for poor children on the Chinese mainland through the Sowers Action and services of the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association in Hong Kong.

All participants stood closely together on the grass pitch and held up coloured cardboards to form the image of the national flag, and then the SAR flag by flipping over the boards. Together they created a tremendous spectacle and accomplished yet another record-breaking feat!

二零零七年九月廿三日，理大教職員、學生、校友、支持者和童軍共二萬一千七百二十六人參加了在小西灣運動場舉行的「和諧團結創『旗』蹟」活動，砌出巨大的中國國旗和香港特區區旗圖案，更刷新了世界紀錄。活動不但是理大七十周年校慶活動中最大型的項目，也是慶祝香港特區成立十周年的認可活動之一。活動除了體現港人的團結和勇於挑戰的精神外，也為支持大學的發展、支援苗圃行動幫助內地失學兒童，以及本港長者安居服務協會籌募善款。

活動期間，參加者秩序井然地進入草地球場，一同舉起了顏色卡，萬眾一心，合力砌出國旗和區旗，共同創造歷史時刻，場面壯觀！

20.9.2007The Chinese Medicinal Nursing Laboratory of the School of Nursing was named after The Yuen Yuen Institute to acknowledge its support and donations of $3 million to the University.

理大把校內護理學院的中醫護理實驗室以圓玄學院命名，以答謝圓玄學院慷慨捐款三百萬元予理大，以及支持大學的長遠發展。

23.10.2007The University received a grant of $10 million from the Victor and William Fung Foundation to set up the Li & Fung China Social Policy Research Fund, in support of the research and training activities undertaken by the PolyU-PekingU China Social Work Research Centre.

理大獲馮經綸慈善基金捐贈港幣一千萬元，設立「利豐中國社會政策研究基金」，全力支持由理大及北京大學合作開設的「香港理工大學─北京大學中國社會工作研究中心」。

14.12.2007Sponsored by GMP Electrical Appliances Co., Limited, the PolyU Golf Tournament 2007 was successfully held in Mission Hills Golf Club in Dongguan. Participated by more than 200 participants and with the support of friends and partners in business and industries, the event raised more than $2 million for the University.

由惠家電器製造有限公司冠名贊助的「理大‧惠家高爾夫球邀請賽2007」於東莞觀瀾湖高爾夫球會舉行，超過二百名熱心人士參與，包括理大友好、校友、工商界夥伴等，是次活動為大學籌募了逾二百萬元發展經費。

18.12.2007With the generous donation of $8.2 million from philanthropist Mr Edwin S H Leong, the University has established the PolyU-Henry G. Leong Mobile Integrative Health Centre to provide free health screening and monitoring services to needy elderly around Hong Kong.

理大獲慈善家梁紹鴻先生捐贈八百二十萬元，成立「理大–梁顯利流動結合保健中心」，為本港各區長者提供免費健康護理服務。

15.4.2008PolyU received a donation of $450,000 from the Fenix Group, bringing the Group’s total donation to PolyU to $1 million. With the donation, selected students of PolyU’s Institute of Textiles and Clothing will be afforded opportunities to acquire practical knowledge in the areas of fashion retail, design and marketing, manufacturing, and visual merchandising through various programmes.

理大獲香港三黃集團捐款港幣四十五萬元，該集團在過去三年已累積捐款一百萬元支持理大發展。理大紡織及製衣學系學生可透過該款項支持的項目，藉着到海外實習，汲取在時裝零售、業務推廣、商品展示設計等方面的寶貴經驗。

16.5.2008The University received $6 million worth of software donation from Autodesk to enable students in the building disciplines to keep abreast of Building Information Modeling in building and civil engineering projects and support their future research activities.

理大獲Autodesk Far East Ltd慷慨捐贈總值超過六百萬元的系統應用軟件，藉此推動建築資訊模型的應用和研究及提升同學對相關系統操作的認知和技術。

21.5.2008The University officially named a building on campus after Dr Yip Kit-chuen, Chairman of GEW Holdings Limited and Shanghai GMP Electrical Appliances Company Limited, in recognition of Dr Yip’s contribution to education and generous donation of more than $30 million in support of the University’s development.

18.6.2008The University dedicated a building to the late Dr Anita Chan Lai-ling in recognition of her longstanding support for education, community services and the development of the University.

理大把校內一座教學大樓正式命名為「陳麗玲樓」，以表彰陳麗玲博士生前積極推動公益慈善和教育事業，以及熱心支持本校的發展。

3.2008The University received $2.2 million from Manulife Charitable Foundation in support of its School of Nursing to further develop the Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities. The donation marks the Foundation’s continued support of the Centre for another three years, from 2008 to 2010.

理大獲宏利慈善基金再次捐贈二百二十萬元，以支持本校護理學院於未來積極拓展宏利兒童學習潛能發展中心。是項捐款標誌着該基金將於二零零八至二零一零年，繼續贊助該中心的研究活動、發展項目及專業服務。

20.3.2008Ming Tao III, a publication with 50 renowned figures sharing their success stories under the theme of tackling challenges, was launched. All proceeds from Ming Tao will go to the University’s Development fund and the Student Development Fund.
