Hardy Clip ‘n’ Climb - by Alia Hobley (3H) Year 3 went to Clip 'n Climb on Friday 16 th and Monday 19th June. The place was huge and we all wanted a go on everything. The challenges we tried included: the stairway to heaven, leap of faith and vertical drop; that was a slide which to get to the top of you had to hold on to a pulley that pulled you up vertically. Then you had to let go as it was the only way down! It gave me butterflies in my tummy. Miss McArdle tried the leap of faith and almost succeeded but unfortunately let go too soon. This was one of the most difficult things to do and not many people managed it. Miss Cork tried the ladder challenge which, when I climbed, was very scary as the only way down was to hold on to the rope on the safety harness and throw yourself off the top. I really enjoyed Clip'n Climb and cannot wait to go again. Diary Dates All key dates can be found on our website on the school calendar. Clip ‘n’ Climb - by Alia Hobley (3H) Year 3 went to Clip 'n Climb on Friday 16th and Monday 19th June.

Phonics Stay and Play Reception and Key Stage 1 will be hosting a Summer ‘Phonics Stay and Play' on Friday 7th July. This drop-in session for parents and carers will give you the chance to see some of the Phonics activities being used in class and to pick up some ideas for supporting your child with reading and writing at home. In both Key Stage 1 and EYFS, the session will run from 9.00am - 9.20am (in place of the EYFS Reading Cafe). We look forward to seeing you there!

Electronic Gadgets I would like to remind parents/carers that children are not allowed to bring electronic gadgets, such as Ipads, tablets, handheld game consoles, etc. to school. Children who walk to school in Years 5 and 6 may bring in their mobile phones, which must be signed in and out of the office for safekeeping.

Summer Holiday Club The dates have been confirmed for the holiday club from Monday 24th - Friday 28th July. This will take place at our Streatham site due to ongoing building works, including boiler replacements and some electrical work, at the Balham site. Pricings and payment details will be sent out in a letter on Monday. Please look out for letters in book bags.

Refugee Week - By Sophie 6C This week has been Refugee week and at Henry Cavendish we have been raising awareness and learning about real refugee experiences to show our support. As a Rights Respecting school, we know that refugee children all over the world have the same rights as any other children.

In Year 6, we had a very informative talk from an Amnesty International speaker, made posters to show our support and have joined Amnesty International's campaign 'I welcome'.

'It's important that we learn about refugees' experiences and the rights that refugee children might not have access to, so that we can help where we can. We want to show support for refugees globally and we all support Amnesty International's campaign #Iwelcome'

Year 5 & 6 Netball Tournament On Wednesday 21st June, 14 Year 5 & 6 girls from both Streatham and Balham took part in a High 5 Netball Tournament at La Retraite Secondary School.

It was an exceptionally hot day and all of the girls played extremely well despite the temperatures. We entered 2 teams into the tournament and each team had to play 3 games in the group stages. Our Blue team won one, drew one and lost one, and our Red team won two and drew one. All the girls were so pleased with their results, Mrs Lauren, Mrs Gurney and Mrs Baldie could not have been more proud of how well they played, and the great sportsmanship they showed.

Only the top teams from the 3 groups and the best runner up could make it through to the semi-finals. Both our teams finished in 2nd place in their groups, which was a brilliant achievement! Our Red team managed to get through to the semi-finals as the best runners up. In the Semi-finals, we faced Holy Ghost and it was a tricky game. We managed to beat them 2-1 and so went through to the finals. By this point, the girls were exhausted and so hot, but they continued to play and continued to motivate each other. In the final, we faced the school we had drawn with in the group stages, Honeywell. It was a particularly difficult game because the level of play from both sides, and it was really close the whole way through. All the girls played to the best of their ability and really pushed themselves in the final. The final score was 2-1 to Honeywell. Even though they finished 2nd, all of the girls were very pleased with the result, and were delighted with their silver medal. Well done to all the girls that played!

Class Assemblies Class 1G’s class assembly was all about their topics in the past term. This included The Wild and Our Families. It was a very funny assembly and they were all so smiley and knew their lines. They sang their songs with confidence and pride. They drew great pictures and displayed them well for us. They were absolutely delightful and very cute. WELL DONE 1G!

By Evie and Leah (5A)

The Class 5M assembly was brilliant! It was full of great actors and enthusiastic singers! The assembly was also packed with fun facts about the Victorians and the poor, young, chimneysweepers. Class 5M impressively conveyed the fact that the Victorian teachers were very strict and stubborn, by acting out the role of an actual teacher in those times. I highly enjoyed 5M's performance! Thank you to Class 5M, Mrs Muhammad and all the adults who helped. By Arwen (5Y)

Class 5R performed an amazing assembly all about the Victorians. It was based on a book called Street Child. They wowed us all with their amazing outfits and sang a beautiful song at the end called A Hard Knock Life from the movie Annie. We all wish we could see it again! Thank you to Class 5R, Mr Rutherford and all the adults who support the class. By Robyn and Felix (5A)

Staff News We are delighted to inform you that while Proms in the Playground was taking place Mrs Gibbs-Singh was busy giving birth to her daughter Ember Veena Ruth Gibbs-Singh. She weighed in at a healthy 7lb 15oz, however the birth was a little dramatic ending in a C-section. Mother and daughter (and father!) are doing well and hope to be home from hospital soon. I am sure you will join me in sending many congratulations to the happy family. School Holiday Activities For ideas to entertain your children during the school holiday, please look at our website.

Proms in the Playground

We were delighted by the huge turnout for our annual Proms in the Playground event on Wednesday despite it being the hottest day in the year! It was such a special afternoon as live music resonated across the playground. There was a variety of performances from our very talented pupils and the audience was treated to the musical sounds of the recorder, djembe drums, choir, ukulele and guitar. The quality of sound certainly enhanced children’s performances, a big thank you to Flip Side Sound Engineers for setting up the microphone and sound system and making sure that we could hear every note. I would like to say a special thank you to Mr Tuxford, Mrs Harper and Mrs Low for organising such a wonderful proms.
