If the Mass intention has been requested by you or for

This past week I happened to read a wonderful book written by Thomas Murphy –The Power of Your Subconscious Mind. Of course, it is a best seller! I enjoyed the book be-cause it is rooted in science and religion. “The law of your mind is the law of belief itself,” Murphy says. What we believe makes us who we are. There are certain points he makes in this book. Murphy proposes that your religious affiliation is not what makes prayer ef-fective. Rather, it is based on your ability and willingness to accept what you pray. We can connect it with Jesus words. Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Murphy adds, whatever you can and do accept on a conscious level has to be accepted by your subconscious as well. So, faith is the link that helps us to pray. He also wrote that there is solution for all our problems in our subconscious level. To find solutions, we need to look inside and ask questions.
Murphy makes a great point by saying that faith is the universal element that heals our mind and body. 'If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth' (Mark 9:23). In all the old rituals of ancient times, with their weird mixtures and incantations, it was the power of suggestion and acceptance in the subconscious mind that healed. Even today, doctors report the power of placebos to produce miraculous recoveries if accom-panied by doubt-free instructions that 'this will do the trick'. Miracles of healing, the author says, are simply the body's obeying of the subconscious mind's knowledge of 'perfect health' when the questioning nature of the normal conscious mind is silenced.
As I finished half of the book, I realize that by constant and rigorous practice we can make our subconscious a powerful weapon to fight against the negatives. Faith should be imprinted in our subconscious mind to see the effect of prayer. Murphy says, if a prayer is answered, it is answered scientifically. He explains that “science” means knowledge that is coordinated, arranged, and systematized. Ultimately the idea here is that we can coop-erate with our subconscious minds to see more of our prayers answered.

Mental Health & Wellness
Community Forum
This Tuesday at St. James in Stratford there will be a Forum sponsored by CONECT on Mental Health and Wellness starting at 7:00 PM in their school auditorium. 1 in 4 people in Connecticut will experience a mental disorder of some form in their lifetime. We will hear personal stories and learn about Connecticut’s new law enforcing fair-ness in coverage of Mental Health and Sub-stance Abuse Disorders. Experts in Mental Health will address questions and concerns, es-pecially those about the accessibility and afforda-bility of mental health services. MALTA HOUSE OPEN HOUSE
Happy fall! Malta House is the only residential/transitional living program in Connecticut for pregnant and parenting mothers and their ba-bies. Malta House has served over 630 mothers and babies in over 20 years, and we are happy to announce that we are renovating a new building in Norwalk that will allow us to ex-pand our capacity by 50%! Please join us this Sunday 11/10 from 11:30 – 1:30 at an Open House at our new facilities located at 139 West Rocks Road in Norwalk.

• Thanks to all who attended Parent’s Night at TOTAL last week. We had a great turnout with 15 parents and 30 teens. It was great to meet some new faces and we hope you had a great night. There is no TOTAL on November 17 or 24.

On November 23/24, the TOTAL teens will participate in a special afternoon and overnight experience to think about making a difference and serving others. We will host our homeless awareness project called NIGHT IN A BOX to raise money and collect much needed items for the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk. Teens will con-struct a cardboard shelter and spend the night in that shelter to become more aware of the homeless plight in Norwalk and nationwide. TOTAL teens will be collecting cash donations and other much needed items for cli-
ents of the Open Door Shelter who will be moving into a new apartment until December 8th. Please contact Daniela O’Callaghan or Dianne Turchick (TOTAL @stjeromenorwalk.org) for more infor-mation.
