MYSTERIES UNSOLVED

Market day saw the Village Greens come alive. From nail painting, rubber ducks, dragonfly paracord keychains to dunking machines. Most things you could think of were available for purchase. Wellington Gale had an interesting mini golf obstacle course set up. In exchange for 2 tags you got a go on each of their four courses. Two led through pipes to the hole, while the other two required a straight shot to get a hole-in-one. According to the Scouts only one or two people had gotten a hole-in-one on these courses, which was “pretty skilled because it’s supposed to be difficult.”

Next door at the Western Southland stall the mysterious Fiordland Moose was in full force. The Scouts were attempting to feed the moose and if the ‘food’ made it out the other end they would go in the draw to win a prize.

MARKET DAY - WELLINGTON GALE, WESTERN SOUTH-LAND, MARLBOROUGH GECKOS

The Western Southland Scouts came together at their pre-jamboree camp and brainstormed the mystery of the Fiordland Moose then used it to theme their troop and market day stall. Their stall looked absolutely terrific.

Down at the Maraetai Village Green the Marlborough Geckos were selling a range of gecko tattoos. Both their troop name and their market stall is inspired by the native Marlborough gecko that is currently endangered. The troop managed to sell out of tattoos by the end of the day “because of good marketing.” She also had her gecko mascot that every patrol leader from the contingent received. It’s name is Grecko and it is a pretty cool companion. Market was a huge success for many.

Jamboree NZ16 2001/02

Jamboree has changed over the years, or has it? These photos show two Jamboree sites both at Mystery Creek. At Jamboree NZ16, there were 3400 Scouts. How many do you think are at NZ22?
