7 Buttons (One World Button Supply's Style SPN-106 36 CV was used on the sample garment) Gauge: 20 sts x 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) with larger needles, in Double Seed Stitch Pattern. With the larger needles, the 30 st Cable Panel measures 3½" across. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

K1P1 Rib Pattern: K1, P1 across RS rows. P1, K1 across WS rows.

Double Seed Stitch: Rows 1 and 4: K1, *(P1, K1) repeat from * to end of row. Rows 2 and 3: P1, *(K1, P1) repeat from * to end of row. Rep Rows 1–4 for pattern.

Back: With the smaller needles, CO 115 (123, 135, 143, 153, 165) sts. Begin K1P1 Rib Pattern, and work even for 1". Change to the larger needles.

Set Up the Patterns: Next Row (RS): Work Row 1 of Double Seed Stitch across the first 11 (15, 21, 25, 25, 31) sts, work Row 1 of the Cable Panel over the next 30 sts, work Row 1 of Double Seed Stitch across the middle 33 (33, 33, 33, 43, 43) sts, work Row 1 of the Cable Panel over the next 30 sts, work Row 1 of Double Seed Stitch across to end the row. Continue even in the patterns as established until the piece measures approximately 14½" from the beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Armholes: BO 9 (12, 16, 18, 21, 25) sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows--97 (99, 103, 107, 111, 115) sts remain. Continue even until the piece measures approximately 22½ (23, 23, 23½, 23½, 23¾)" from the beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Neck: Work across the first 32 (33, 35, 37, 39, 41) sts, join a second ball of yarn and bind off the middle 33 sts, work across to end the row. Work both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, and dec 1 st each neck edge once. Continue even until the piece measures approximately 23 (23½, 23½, 24, 24, 24¼)" from the beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Shoulders: BO 8 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10) sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows, then BO 7 (8, 10, 9, 11, 10) sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.

Pocket Linings (Make 2): With the larger needles, CO 30 sts. Work Stockinette Stitch for 4", ending after WS row, increase 12 sts evenly across the last row--42 sts. Slip sts onto a holder.

Left Front: With the smaller needles, CO 60 (64, 70, 74, 80, 86) sts. Begin K1P1 Rib Pattern, and work even for 1". Change to the larger needles.

Next Row (RS): Work Row 1 of Double Seed Stitch across the first 11 (15, 21, 25, 25, 31) sts, work Row 1 of the Cable Panel over the next 30 sts, work Row 1 of Double Seed Stitch across to end the row. Continue even in the patterns as established until the piece measures approximately 5" from the beginning, ending after WS row.

Place Pocket Linings: Work the pattern as established across the first 5 (9, 15, 19, 19, 25) sts, slip the next 42 sts onto a holder, continue the pattern as established across 42 sts from one pocket lining and across to end the row.

Continue even in the patterns as established until the piece measures approximately 14½" from the beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Armhole: BO 9 (12, 16, 18, 21, 25) at the beginning of the next row--51 (52, 5, 56, 59, 61) sts remain. Continue even until the piece measures approximately 21½ (22, 22, 22½, 22½, 22¾)" from the beginning, ending after RS row.

Shape Neck: BO 10 (10, 10, 10, 11, 11) sts at the beginning of the next row, BO 5 sts at the neck edge once, BO 3 sts at neck edge once, then dec 1 st at the neck edge every row twice--31 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40) sts remain. Continue even until the piece measures the same as the back to the shoulders, ending after WS row.

Shape Shoulder: BO 8 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10) sts at the shoulder edge 3 times. Work 1 row even. BO remaining 7 (8, 10, 9, 11, 10) sts. Place markers for 7 evenly spaced buttons, making the first and last ½" from the lower edge and beginning of front neck shaping, respectively.

Right Front: Same as left front, except reverse shaping and make buttonholes opposite markers on RS rows as follows: Work 3 sts in pattern, BO the next 3 sts, continue across to end the row. On the subsequent row, CO 3 sts over the bound off sts.

Sleeves: With the smaller needles, CO 47 sts. Begin K1P1 Rib, and work even until the piece measures approximately 1" from the beginning.

Change to larger needles, begin Double Seed Stitch, and increase 1 st each side every 4 rows 0 (4, 6, 15, 18, 24) times, every 6 rows 12 (18, 16, 9, 6, 1) times, then every 8 rows 7 (0, 0, 0, 0, 0) times, working sts into the pattern as they accumulate--85 (91, 91, 95, 95, 97) sts. Continue even until the piece measures approximately 21¼ (21¼, 21¼, 20¾, 20¾, 20½)" from the beginning. BO in the pattern.

Finishing: Sew the shoulder seams.

Neckband: With the RS facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 98 sts around the neckline. Begin with a knit row, work 5 rows of Stockinette st, allowing the edge to roll to the WS. BO.

With the smaller needles, work 1" of K1P1 Rib Pattern along the pocket holders. BO in the pattern. Sew the sides of the ribbed edges to the fronts. Sew the lining neatly to the WS of the fronts. Set in the sleeves. Sew the sleeve and side seams. Sew on the buttons.
