Welcome Visitors

Welcome to Celebration Lutheran Church. If you are visiting with us for the first time, consider yourself home. Pastor Kyle and the members of Celebration Lutheran Church welcome you. On this Sunday, we invite you to the table where there is always room for you. May you be blessed as you welcome the risen Christ into your heart and into your life. God’s deep peace be with you.

Our Beliefs

We believe in God the Creator, Jesus our Savior and Lord, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe Jesus died for the sins of all and His resurrection brings Life to all who believe.

We focus on the Grace of God, which is the unconditional love of God.

We are a church of Word and Sacrament – Baptism and Holy Communion.

We believe the Bible is the Word of God. We believe God is already working in your heart and mind.

We believe Christians of good conscience can hold differing opinions.

We believe the world is a complicated place where there are few black and white answers.

We believe Jesus calls us to follow Him in love.

Nursery We welcome children of all ages to attend worship. We have a staffed nursery,

and children under 6 are welcome to use the nursery. The nursery is staffed with high school youth who are trained to be attendants. If you would like to use the nursery, check in with Nathan, our Youth and Family minister. (He is

bearded and wears colorful shirts). He will be happy to help.

PRELUDE

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS GREETING P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, whose teaching is life, whose presence is sure, and whose love is endless. C: Amen.

CONFESSION P: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen. Silence for reflection and self-examination.

P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Page 4: 21st Sunday in Pentecost - celebrationlutheranchurch.org

C: We confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

FORGIVENESS P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

P:Sovereign God, you turn your greatness into goodness for all the peoples on earth. C: Shape us into willing servants of your kingdom, and make us desire always and only your will, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

CHILDREN’S SERMON NATHAN

Reading: Isaiah 53:4-12 4Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. 5But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8By a perversion of justice he was taken away. Who could have imagined his future? For he was cut off from the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people. 9They made his grave with the wicked and his tomb with the rich, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

Page 8: 21st Sunday in Pentecost - celebrationlutheranchurch.org

10Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him with pain. When you make his life an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring, and shall prolong his days; through him the will of the LORD shall prosper. 11Out of his anguish he shall see light; he shall find satisfaction through his knowledge. The righteous one, my servant, shall make many righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.12Therefore I will allot him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Page 9: 21st Sunday in Pentecost - celebrationlutheranchurch.org

GOSPEL: Mark 10:35-45 35James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” 36And he said to them, “What is it you want me to do for you?” 37And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” 38But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” 39They replied, “We are able.” Then Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; 40but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” 41When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John. 42So Jesus called them and said to them, “You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. 43But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, 44and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. 45For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

P: Let us join in confessing and affirm our faith, using

the words of the Apostle’s Creed.

C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Each portion of the prayers ends with these words: P: Lord, in your mercy,

C: hear our prayer.

SHARING PEACE P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: And also with you. P: Let us share the peace of Christ.
