Message from the Pastor

Welcome to summer! As the school year for our students finishes up, summer activities already have begun to ramp up. There are vacations, Little League baseball and softball, summer camps, camping trips, fireworks, swimming pool parties and lots of grilling out (OK, who are we kidding, in Texas the grill never gets closed.)

And then there are all the happenings at FUMC Edna over summer. We have Vacation Bible School, MYF Summer Camp, Mission Trip, UM Army Family, Fan Drive, our summer sermon series through the Book of Judges titled The Judges League among all our other summer activities.

Is there anything missing from your summer schedule?

How about rest?

As you go about your busy schedules this summer, I encourage you not to forget to rest. God instituted the commandment of Sabbath (taking a day of rest) and he didn’t make it as a suggestion. We need rest. Our bodies are designed to work and to rest. Resting allows our bodies to recover from the work of the day and restores us so we can go work or play tomorrow.

So, take time to rest, and I don’t mean just sleeping a little longer. Rest in the Lord. He is our ultimate source of restoration.

Whether you find godly rest in leisurely walks or tending a garden or dedicated time with family, make sure to take one day a week as Sabbath and rest in the Lord. If you do, you will find yourself feeling better emotionally, spiritually and physically. And you’ll be much more prepared to face the busyness of life.

In Christ, Adam R. Knapp
