Frequently Asked Questions

What is required for camp pick up?Camp dismissal begins at 11:45am. Campers will only be released to people listed on the

Approved for Pick Up list. At the time of pick up, please have your photo ID ready to check outyour camper.

Our camp activities at The Living Desert are designed to be educational, age-appropriate, and fun. During the week of ZooCamp, campers will get opportunities toexplore grounds, experience unique animal encounters and behind-the-scenes access, inaddition to traditional summer camp experiences like crafts, games, and other funactivities.

What makes camp at The Living Desert Zoo andGardens different from other summer camp

experiences?

Campers are organized into different themes with age-appropriate educational contentdesignated for age groups: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, and 10-13.

What are the age groups you offer for SummerZooCamp?

What are the hours of ZooCamp?Each Summer ZooCamp is a 5-day session that runs for a full week (Monday throughFriday) from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

Where do I drop off/pick up my child?At the Education Building Gate. Upon entering the parking

lot, take the second left turn and drive to the end of the row.At the end of the row, the drop off/pick-up spot is to your

left.

Frequently Asked Questions

ZooCampers need to come equipped/dressed for outdoor activities with a snackand water bottle each day. We strongly suggest water, sunblock, close toedshoes, and a hat for every camper. Toys and personal items should be left at

home.

The program does NOT include a lunch. Camps are designed to end right atlunchtime (noon). If campers will need food for themselves, we encourage

them to bring their own snacks/meals.

Is there early-drop-off or late-pick-up?

Will my camper always have the sameinstructor?

Campers will have the same camp instructor(s) each day for the full week ofcamp. If your child is in day camp for more than one week they may experience

a different camp instructor each week

Can I purchase a membership right now andreceive the member discount?

Yes.

No. We are unable to accommodate early drop off or late pickup times.

What do campers need to bring to camp?

Does the zoo provide lunch?

There are different rates dependent upon the season/length ofthe session.

Summer (5-day sessions): Member - $186; Non-member - $216

How much do camps cost?

Yes. But the child or aide needs to bring the medication with them and be ableto administer it without assistance from the facilitators. The Zoo will also not

take responsibility to store and hold any medication for the child.

May I stay with my child during this camp?

What if my child has allergies?

Parents/guardians are not permitted to stay with their children during camp andshould drop off their child at the designated drop off location at the start of camp. Campers will receive a temperature screening before entering their classroom. For

the safety of all staff and camp participants, only campers and approved TLDcamp staff will be allowed into the classroom after the temperature screenings.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is committed to providingcampers high-quality meaningful opportunities to learn and

have fun. We strive to promote self-confidence, decisionmaking, social-emotional development, and environmental

stewardship in each camper. In order to maintain a positive andsafe environment, our campers are expected to follow the

three rules of camp: Be Safe, Be Smart, and Be Kind.

A camp attendee will be in a variety of different locations both inside andoutside. If a child has known allergies, please include that information in theonline registration form. Any allergy medication needs to be provided by the

family of the child and self-administered by the child.

Can my child bring necessary medications?

What is the Camper Code of Conduct?

Staff and campers will be required to wear masks at all times,except when eating. Staff and children will be seated at least 6feet apart during snack periods.

Camp instructors will be assigned to the same cohort of campersfor the full week of camp

Campers will use the same classroom throughout the week withlimited crossover.

Program will take place outdoors as much as possible.

Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Enhanced cleaning protocols will be implemented for high touchobjects and surfaces.

Staff and campers will be required to complete a CDC healthscreening, as well as have their temperature checked, at thestart of each day.
