What is a pH scale?
The pH of a solution was defined as:
pH = - log [H+]
Similar definition is made for the [OH-]:
pOH = - log [OH-]
pKw = pH + pOH
at 25oC
14 = pH + pOH
[H+] = [OH-] the solution is neutral (pH=7).
[H+] [OH-] the solution is acidic (pH 7).
[H+] [OH-] the solution is alkaline (pH 7).
