In a major contract, British Petroleum,owner of the commissioned Production,Drilling and Quarters (PDQ) platform

based in Azerbaijan, has commissionedCrestchic Limited, one of the UK'spreferred Loadbank hire specialists, toundertake a 12.5MVA Loadbank test on therigs' Rolls Royce turbines during a 10 weekperiod.

The load requirement has involved thetransportation and installation of three6MVA Loadbanks, three 5.8MVATransformers operating at 6Kv 60Hz,3-phase, 100m of medium voltage cableand one 200KVA auxiliary supplygenerator.

"PDQ rig is one of the five rigs built andcommissioned in or around Baku to servethe Azeri oilfield all operating in theCaspian Sea, Azerbaijan. Load testing hasbeen carried out on all the rigs during thecommissioning stage," Daryl Robinson,Business Development Manager atCrestchic Limited, told WIP.

The testing equipment for theseplatforms was transported by sea, railand road to Azerbaijan, the equipmentsupplied was 3 x 20ft 5.8MVAcontainerised transformers, 3 x 20ft6.0MVA Resistive Reactive containerised

loadbanks and one cable container withall medium voltage and low voltagecables.

Most of the project equipment has beeninstalled and operated by Crestchicengineers. Crestchic works in partnershipwith a local generator rental company'Rutland Diesels Services' (RDS) on all theprojects in the Caspian region. Crestchicbecame part of the Northbridge IndustrialServices group in 2006 and RDS was also

acquired in 2009. The 15,850 tonne topside was

sailed away in the latter part of2006 into 150m water depth onthe east side of Azeri Field.

Operating one generator set ofRolls Royce RB211 gas turbines,the platform is set to increasethe oil yield by around 800,000extra barrels per year.

RDS has been operating in theCaspian region since 1995, andsupplies rental generator's from16kVA-1400kVA in single units,

lighting towers and welding equipmentand sales of generators.
