Industry wins at
PVI 2017
Our plastics industry has worked very hard for decades to reach this point of global recognition. The spirit of
passion is a part of our DNA. Inspite of facing challenges, the industry has taken giant strides and comes with a promise for more. With a profound business understanding, desire to excel and phenomenal growth opportunities, it’s most certain that the industry will continue to be a sunrise industry for times to come. It remains the most deserving winner... PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 just provided it with a platform that justifies this achievement.

Some of the exhibitors achieved their best business ever in PVI; for an idea, number of machines sold by few companies - Toshiba 75, Milacron 100, Windsor 40, Electronica 30, Satellite 15, Sai Machine Tool 10 and Techno Print booked (with payment) 50 hot stamping and hot transfer machines, they stopped booking as they ran out of capacity!

PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017Creates History
Over 2,10,000 visitors; over 75,000 online visitors; 45 registration counters; over 1,450 exhibitors, including 450 from
abroad; 1,10,000 square metres gross area occupied, participation by 25 countries; and going by data gathered from major participants, an estimated business turnover
of over Rs. 2,000 crore!
That’s some serious numbers - crunching from the recently concluded 10th PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 organised by The All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) at NESCO Grounds, Goregaon, Mumbai between 19th and 23rd January, 2017. It is only the top-five plastic fairs in the world who can boast of such statistics. Subodh Gupta, Managing Director, Triveni Polymers Pvt. Ltd. begs to differ. “It’s only a matter of time before PLASTIVISION climbs the ladder still further”, he says, much to the organisers’ delight.
Well, if that isn’t a vindication of the statement; Arvind M. Mehta, Chairman - Governing Council, AIPMA; President, Plastindia International University (PIU) and Past President, AIPMA & Plastindia Foundation, had

We retrospect with pride on the success of
PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017. I clearly take this as a victory of the Indian plastics industry. Lot of people asked me what do I see as the outcome of the event, and I clearly feel that what PVI 2017 showcased was ‘business confidence’. The industry clearly knew that this event could add significant value to their brand and business; no other reason why people would invest otherwise.
Thank you to one-and-all for helping us realise this dream. A special mention about Rajubhai for his guidance and support, without which all this would not have been possible. Lastly, a Captain is as good as his team. I stand-up to congratulate every member of my team who have stood steadfast in this long and arduous journey.

declared way ahead of PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017, “PVI 2013, the earlier edition, was one of the top-10 exhibitions in the world. Now, PVI 2017 is all set to be one of the top-five exhibitions worldwide.” And here it is, true to the statement.
Getting the Show on the RoadIndeed, this PLASTIVISION INDIA was bigger, better and bolder (if you like) than before, with the fair-grounds resembling a raging sea, rather an
ocean of humanity, on all the five days of the show. Hordes of visitors hopped
from hall to hall and pavilion to pavilion in the hope of making the most out of every product launch and conference, no matter how big or small. Meanwhile, exhibitors, including the international ones, were kept super-busy, displaying their newest machinery, product lines and concepts, and generally leaving no stone unturned to woo the guests. Both, visitors and

The parameter of success of any
event is the business transacted. I am please to highlight here that at PVI 2017; business of over Rs. 2000 crore was transacted. While setting a new landmark, this business has given the much-needed growth to the plastics industry. It is a positive dose of inspiration and confidence. I would like to applaud the untiring efforts of Kailashbhai and Team PVI for this stupendous success.
Completely Satisfied
My words are insufficient to convey the enduring and profound gratitude. Flamingo started exhibiting since the first show, and we have never regretted it. AIPMA and PLASTIVISION have amply demonstrated
commitment and professional excellence. The event was a great success with increase in attendance and a greater customer enthusiasm. We appreciate the innovations and the thought behind it, we are completely satisfied and would want you to know that all our 9 Principals from overseas have appreciated; infact Dr. Konrad Otto even asked if the show was organised by Messe Düsseldorf, which itself is a great compliment. Thank you once again for all your efforts and putting up a wonderful show!

Day 1, and the exposition opened officially at the hands of Anant G. Geete, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, in the presence of the plastics industry veterans, overseas visitors and hundreds of thousands of attendees who all but stood up as the National Anthem played in the backdrop, breaking into thunderous applause even as the traditional lamp was lit. Balloons of every hue and colour filled the atmosphere as Anant G. Geete unveiled the show logo.
The Minister, who had flown in directly from the Capital especially for the exhibition, managed a brief, but firm talk, “We (the government) are with you,” despite having earlier hinted that he was going to say only a few words with the election code of conduct having kicked in. Still, it was enough to put a smile on the lips of Amit Kumar Ghosh, MD, UPSIDC; Haren Sanghavi, President, AIPMA; Arvind Mehta, Chairman, AIPMA Governing Council; Kailash B. PLASTIVISION, A Very Significant Trade Show
PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 was a great success and the
companies featured on the British Pavilion, which was run by the British Plastics Federation (BPF) with the support of the Department for International Trade, were kept very busy with many promising enquiries. The joint BPF stand also featured a ‘Best of British’ display that stimulated the interest of many attendees, highlighting the talented designers and manufacturers we have here in the UK. India remains an important market for the UK plastics industry and PLASTIVISION is a very significant trade show, well worth attending for those wishing to explore the potential the Indian market holds for their business.

much better organised. Alok Masterbatches Pvt. Ltd. has been participating in several shows. It is a very good platform for showcasing our additives to the entire Indian market.

Super success of PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 and efforts made by our team to make it one of the top 5 exhibitions

With space being sold well in advance, gave enough time for the team to focus on other parameters that were equally important to ensure success of the event.
Thank you to SUDHAKAR Pipes and Hilda Automation, the lead sponsors to the event for their trust in us. Minutest of activities were given attention and preparations were streamlined with personal attention. Kailashbhai and Rajubhai have done a phenomenal task for PVI 2017, well backed by the MC, GC, office bearers, Team UTKARSH and the excellent administrative staff.
Our investment in visitor promotion paid rich dividends; exhibitors were extremely satisfied. Companies who participated with small booths regretted their decision and felt that they should have taken a bigger space.

Even earlier, he had gone on record to say that the plastics industry had felt very limited impact of demonetisation, that too in the initial stage. Chandrakant Turakhia, Chairman - Directory Committee, PVI 2017 could not have imagined that the exhibitors’ directory he was launching would get sold out in the first couple of days itself.
SUDHAKAR Pipes & Fittings and Hilda Automation must be lauded for the great confidence they placed in PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 and its organisers. We all remain very excited with the success of this event. I clearly see this as an administrator’s delight. Timely decisions and next
to immaculate co-ordination and implementation was the lifeline.
The halls being made available much earlier, reasonably priced hotel bookings, quality as well as quantity of visitors, pre-event buildup, a record online and seamless visitor registration at site, a massive VIP turnout, food, music and more...all made this event a very complete affair.
Silver Lining: The pathways were lined with seating that proved extremely handy – to catch a breath, have a chat or close a deal!

Very Happy to Participate
We are very happy with our decision at this maiden participation as the visitor turnaround to

PVI that put countless hours into micro-planning and execution of an event of this scale, deserves kudos from the entire Indian plastics industry.
Wowing Visitors, ExhibitorsThroughout, the fair teemed with people, both outside and inside the eight halls and six pavilions; either looking up information at kiosks, exchanging notes with exhibitors, trooping in and out of seminars and events being held concurrently, stopping at wayside stalls to quench their hunger pangs or thirst, posing with machines and robots, and even clicking selfies at the specially-created selfie counter. And, while we’ve seen some hard numbers to prove that the show was a hit with all stakeholders concerned, there was so much more to it than what

A humbling feedback was that the PVI 2017 showcased one of

Such was the demand that the exhibition directory

Taking care and concern to the next level, visitors coming by overnight trains were
delighted to know of the ‘shower and change’ facility that was arranged at the venue; another first by Team PVI 2017! A
special baggage holding area made sure of convenient walk-through for visitors.
An unprecedented, 60 ‘Road Shows’ were conducted in just over 66 days (with
some days witnessing even 3 Road Shows together). A colossal 42,000+ industry
representatives attended these events, taking the pre-event excitement to new heights!

An Exhibitor’s Delight.
PVI 2017 was indeed an exhibitor’s delight. All aspects
were commendable – number of visitors, quality of visitors, infrastructure, food court, and that too, in spite of the inherent locational disadvantages. The show was well promoted throughout the country resulting in footfalls from even smaller cities in India. A grand show raising the bar for any plastics exposition in India.

across the length and breadth of the fair-grounds. The sheer number of cafeterias bordering the pathways and at nearly every nook and bend of the venue, were a blessing for visitors. And so were the showers, arranged for the first time ever, mainly for the benefit of guests who travelled overnight in trains to be there at the fair the next day. Delegates from other cities and towns were well looked after by Wynn Hospitality, appointed six months prior to the exhibition for bookings in three-star and five-star hotels at reasonable rates ranging from
popular Bollywood music composers, Vishal-Shekhar.
It is to the credit of the organisers that parking facilities were arranged for over 2,700 cars at any given point in time, that too in a city like Mumbai which is forever plagued by space crunch. What’s more, rickshaws were available from various parking lots to the venue. Over 100 traffic wardens and 70 traffic policemen were hired just so that vehicular movement remained smooth and did not turn into a traffic nightmare. The closest railway station, and the newest one at that, Ram Mandir, was heavily promoted to provide easier access to the grounds. So much so

And the Award Goes To...The ECONOMIC TIMES POLYMERS Awards 2017 held on 19th January, 2017 at Hyatt Regency, Mumbai saw the crème de la crème of the plastics industry converge under one roof. Excellence in the use of plastics in categories including automotive, agriculture, recycling, consumer durables, packaging as well as building and construction was awarded. Further, CEOs and industry leaders were honoured in the form of the ‘People’s Award’.
Ashish Baheti, Managing Director, Vectus Industries Ltd. won ‘The ET POLYMERS Entrepreneur of the Year 2017’ while Anil Jain, Vice Chairman and CEO, Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. took home ‘CEO of the Year 2017’. The ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ went to Vimal Kedia, Managing Director, Manjushree Technopack Ltd., whereas Kailash Murarka, Chairman, PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Indian plastics industry. The CEO panel discussion on ‘Indian Plastics 4.0’ was the highlight of the ceremony, touching on current and emerging market trends in the domestic plastics industry.
All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) was ‘Industry Partner’, Alok Masterbatches Pvt. Ltd. ‘Masterbatch Partner’, DHFL ‘Finance Partner’ and ECON Machinery Pvt. Ltd. ‘Trophy Partner’ of the event.
Industry Needs to Adapt to GST“You have to adapt yourselves to the GST tax and not the other way around,” emphasised Rajiv Luthia, Chartered Accountant of R. J. Luthia & Associates, at the seminar on “GST: Way Forward and Challenges with CA” held on 22nd January, 2017.
Rajiv Luthia made it plain that though GST meant, ‘beg or borrow, but first pay tax’, it was a welcome move as taxes on a large number of goods and services would go down and the country’s GDP too would improve. Since independence, this was the most revolutionary change in finance, he said, and estimated that the taxation slab for most industries, including plastics, would be in the range of 12 - 18%.
The tax structure would be based on intra-state transactions, inter-state tax and overseas imports, Rajiv Luthia explained. In terms of the plastics industry, GST would affect most job-work under Section 2 (65). About lacunae in the existing system, he said, “We hope that the government considers and works on the shortcomings. If not, we in the industry will have to adapt ourselves.”

AIPMA to Build Sustainable Ecosystem for Packaging WasteThe All India Plastics Associations Conclave 2017 was organised by AIPMA at The Westin Hotel on the sidelines of the 10th PLASTIVISION INDIA, 2017. It was a close gathering of the plastics industry veterans to discuss the road ahead and strengthen the industry’s image.
Guest of Honor, Avinash Joshi, I.A.S., Joint Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India announced, “PLASTIVISION INDIA 2019 in Delhi will be co-organised either by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals or CIPET (Central Institute of Plastics Engineering &
Technology). It has been agreed on in principle and we are working on the modalities.”
Haren Sanghavi, President, AIPMA informed that AIPMA was pulling out all stops to change the public perception of plastics as harmful to the environment through nation-wide promotions and programmes. Akhilesh Bhargava, Chairman, Environment Committee, AIPMA said, “It is very important that AIPMA plays a catalyst’s role in building a sustainable ecosystem for post-consumer packaging waste. By a sustainable ecosystem, we mean a system where plastics waste has value and does not get littered and end up in landfills; rather, it is recycled into the system.”

Did you know that over 100 Traffic Wardens and
70 Traffic Policemen were hired to ensure smooth
vehicular movement during PVI 2017?
Such was the impact of the show that entrepreneurs
from other industries were interested in the opportunities offered by the plastics industry

Exhibitors were delighted when they were provided
access to the pre-registered visitor database to help setup one-on-one meeting. A true
business enabler!
At any point in time, over 2,700 cars and thousands of motorcycles found parking space. Imagine the number of vehicles in the day! An efficient rickshaw ‘pick-
and-drop’ between the car parks and the venue bought tremendous convenience
on one side and an easened traffic movement on the other.
Leaving no stone unturned for visitor promotion, even during the early days of the event, the organising team ensured
continuous reminders were sent to people across mediums such as radio,
SMS, message, alert calls, reminder emails; all this to ensure maximised footfalls for
its exhibitors.

As for exhibitors, they expressed near-100 per cent satisfaction with the show. Not without reason, for the grounds were booked from the night of 13th January, 2017, more than five days before commencement of the exhibition so that exhibitors could plan in advance - their booths, machinery to be installed and products to be showcased. They were provided access to pre-registered visitors database to help them setup business meetings, and the mobile application witnessed 1,000s such
meetings (exhibitors to visitor, visitor to visitor) being scheduled. In addition, the organisers invited nearly 50,000 ‘very important’ visitors to the event. Technology, including SMS, message alerts, small reminders etc. were made available at the tips of exhibitors’ fingers to maximise footfalls and consequently, business.
Kailas P., Managing Director, Toshiba Machine Chennai Pvt. Ltd., stated, “We have been participating in PLASTIVISION from the beginning, and it is always successful. Each time, we secure good orders for our machinery and also get several valuable enquiries for the future. It also gives us an opportunity to meet all our customers from the western region; otherwise, it would take atleast two months to meet all of them.”
Exhibiting Convenience: Not bothering about the huge cost of rent, PVI 2017 booked the exhibition ground from 13th January 2017 itself (i.e.) more than 5 days prior to the commencement of the exhibition. This truly delighted the exhibitors; a gesture well appreciated by all.

Plastics, the Biggest Component of Growth in PackagingAt the conference on ‘Plastics in Packaging’ organised by the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) at Hotel The Leela on 21st January, 2017, Rajani Ranjan Rashmi, I.A.S., Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India drew attention to the fact that as the packaging industry grows, it must consider two aspects – economic sustainability, and social expectations and norms.
Rajani Ranjan Rashmi, I.A.S. urged that the plastics industry should be supported for creating the right environmental policy.
Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Saha, Director, IIP said that the Institute was on the road to achieving deemed university status and by 2018, it would also offer B.Tech in packaging technology management. Describing packaging as the coming together of art, science and technology, he said that by 2020, packaging would be a USD 32 billion industry. Though different types of materials were being used for packaging, plastics was the biggest component of growth in packaging, he said. Plastics packaging was growing at 20 per cent rate and paper at 10 per cent, he added. According to Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Saha, the polymer industry was poised for huge capacity expansion in availability of commodity raw materials like polyethylene and polypropylene. The Asian Packaging Federation (APF) launched online courses for Certified Asian Packaging Professionals (CAPP) during the event.
Medical Pavilion: The Medical Pavilion acted as a knowledge platform and attracted visitors for plastics in healthcare vide an elaborate display of posters, audio visuals, models and samples highlighting various medical applications and developments.

Green Pavilion: That plastics, too, can be good for the environment was the message loud and clear from the ‘Green Pavilion’ organised at PVI 2017. Visitors got a sneak-peek at different recycling technologies and were treated to live demonstrations of recycling waste into fuel and so on.
Infrastructure Pavilion: The infrastructure pavilion evoked a lot of interest with products such as bio-toilet, crossing bridge & tree guard, cool deck, wall cladding, garden equipment, canopy, fencing & garden flooring, loft tank, commode and more.
Solar Pavilion: The ‘Solar Pavilion’ at PVI 2017 attracted a huge number of footfalls. It succeeded in creating awareness about this great alternate source of energy that is cheaper, easier to install and guarantees hassle-free operations. Proof of this is the sheer number of enquiries about installing solar systems in farmhouses, factories and for domestic use.
Job Fair: Industry leaders and government dignitaries visited the Job-Fair pavilion. 1,000 candidates with over 30 employers (India and overseas) made this initiative a huge success.

PVI Supplement l POLYMERS Communiqué l December 2016 - January 201720
Interestingly, Day 4 saw rumors doing the rounds that acting
on popular demand, the organisers would extend
the exposition beyond the slated 23rd January, 2017.
The reality wasn’t too different. Exhibitors continued to book
orders till the last hour of the last day and booths were dismantled
well beyond the closing time of 6:00 pm, a rare phenomenon for five-day-long fair. Almost all exhibitors recorded great business.
Report CardIt does not come as a surprise that PVI 2017 got sold out a year before its commencement, considering the kind of time, energy and investment that went into promoting and organising it. Over 250 industry people from across the country worked day and night during the lead-up to the show. A country-wide visitor promotion campaign was launched, part of which was holding an unprecedented 60 roadshows pan-India in just 66 days. The response was overwhelming to say
the least, and over 42,000 businessmen and industry experts thronged these shows. Team UTKARSH comprising of AIPMA’s younger members was tasked with coordinating the mammoth event. And while they did a great job, it is significant to mention that for the first time, all industry associations joined forces and worked together to make the exposition the success it was.
PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 achieved more feats; through the job fairs, conferences, paper presentations and awards, it spurred debates and discussions on some of the latest issues facing the industry as a whole. For instance, the conclave held at The Westin, sent out a strong message to the fraternity, the government and the people that AIPMA would play the role of a catalyst in building a sustainable ecosystem for post-consumer packaging waste.
Now that all the excitement is over, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 delivered on almost all counts that mattered. Not just the number of visitors or exhibitors or the kind of business transacted, but also the fact that there were so many little-big things that smacked of the organisers’ thoughtfulness and the great pains they had taken to ensure that each participant - be it consumers, business visitors or exhibitors - returned from the exposition richer - a true measure of success indeed!
DeMo Effect: The De-monitisation effect was well handled with a number of card swiping machines at the point of sale as well as two on-site ATM vans played a pivotal role, adding ease to seamless registration.
