    Guide to the Kingston Data TravelerSet Up

    The Kingston Data Traveler is a plug and playdevice. No drivers or administrative privilegesare needed to use the device.

    Windows Environment

    1. For the device software to launch, on

    connecting the device to a PC auto-run needsto be enabled. If auto-run is disabled, you canlaunch the utility from My Computer.

    2. Select the option Run DTVP_Launcher.exe

    3. Follow the Initialisation process (see below)

    Mac Environment

    1. Insert the device into an available USB porton your notebook or desktop and wait for the

    operating system to detect it. When it does, youwill see a DTVP volume appear on the desktop.

    2. Double-click the DTVP CD-Rom icon

    3. Double-click the Mac folder

    4. Double-click the DTVP application icon. Thiswill start the Initialisation process.

    Linux Environment

    Note: Certain distributions of Linux will requiresuper-user (root) privileges in order to executethe DTVP commands properly in the terminalapplication window.

    1. Insert the device into an available USB porton your notebook or desktop and wait for theoperating system to detect it. When it does, youwill see a DTVP volume appear on the desktop.

    2. The DTVP comes with 5 commands that canbe used in Linux: dtvp_about,

    dtvp_forgotpassword, dtvp_initalize,dtvp_login anddtvp_logout (note, to executethese commands you must open a terminalapplication window and navigate to the folder

    where each of the files exists. Each commandmust be preceded by the following twocharacters ./ (a period and a forward slash)

    3. For 32-bit users, open a terminal applicationwindow and change the current directory to/media/DTVP/linux/linux32$ by typing thefollowing command at the prompt:

    cd/media/DTVP/linux/linux32 (and then pressENTER)

    For 64-bit users, open a terminal applicationwindow and change the current directory to/media/DTVP/linux/linux64$ by typing thefollowing command at the prompt:

    cd/media/DTVP/linux/linux64 (and then pressENTER)

    4. To initialise the DTVP, type the followingcommand at the terminal prompt and pressENTER: ./dtvp_initialise*(remember,

    commands are case-sensitive)

    5. Follow the Initialisation process

    Initialisation Process

    Upon first use, a simple wizard is launched toguide you through the setup process.

    Setup is a four step process where informationis gathered from the user to be stored on theData Traveler:

    1. Language

    Select the language you would like setup to usefor the rest of the setup process.

    Once the selection has been made, click Nextto continue.

    2. Licence Agreement

    Read and accept the software licence

    agreement.

    Click Nextto continue.

    3. Password

    Choose a secure password to encrypt data on

    the Data Traveler. This is the password that youwill need to be supply to decrypt and access thedrive.

    Passwords need to meet the followingcomplexity:

    Must be between 6 to 16 characters

    Must contain three of the followingcharacter types: lowercase, uppercase,numeric, and non-alpha-numericcharacters.

    Once the password has been set click Nexttocontinue.

    4. Contact Information

    Insert you contact information:

    Click Finish.

    Format

    Once the setup process has completed, theData Traveler will be formatted and prepared foruse with the details provided during setup.

    When the drive has completed the format, clickOKto continue, and access will be granted.

    Using the Data Traveler

    As the Data Traveler is a plug and play device,to use, simply insert the drive into an availableUSB drive.

    Once the device has been recognised, a promptrequesting a password will be presented. Enterthe password that was supplied during thesetup process.

    On supplying the correct password, thecontents of the drive will be decrypted andaccess to documents stored on the drive will bemade available.
