Art and Design Work
H’MM
Introduction• ICT is used in a wide range of activities when
producing art and design work. • We have already briefly looked at how CD and DVD
covers, posters, books and magazines are published. • Now we need to look at some of the hardware and
software that is involved when ICT is used to produce artwork.
• Most companies that deal with this type of work use computers with large storage capacities.
• Many have to have appropriate graphics software installed. This is often referred to as image-editing software, as it is used to alter the appearance of images that have been imported into the software using input devices such as digital cameras and scanners.
FEATURES OF GRAPHICS SOFTWARE
This type of software often has features such as the ability to:• crop (i.e. remove a portion of) a n image• rotate an image• flip an image• till parts of the image w it h colour• look at three-dimensional views• remove scratches from photos• draw lines and other geometric shapes• add text in a variety of fonts.
• The software will also have access to a lot of clipart and photo galleries. In addition, it will have the facility to store libraries of designs so that the same basis for a design can be used over and over again.
• The devices used to manipulate these images are either a mouse or a tracker ball.
