the scoop NOVEMBER 21 2012 Market Day Well done to all the Year 6 students for running another great 'market day' on Monday. They had a lot of fun and raised $1153 towards helping meet some of the extra cost around camp for this year. A big thank you to all the parents who helped them get their stalls sorted and to everyone who sent their child along with a few dollars to spend on the day! School Resourcing, your Accounts and Donations Recently we have received our notification of what our staffing and funding will look like for the 2013 school year. As always being a decile 10 school our per student funding in both money and staffing is less than what a lower decile school receives. For example, a decile 3 school that is around the same size as us will receive nearly $50,000 more in operational funding and staffing that equates to at least one more teaching position. Our school therefore does its very best to 'push the envelope' and provide as much teaching resource, and monetary support, to give as many enriching learning opportunities and support across the different curriculum areas. This is where your school account payment, and the decision to make your family donation, helps immensely. Your school account is itemised so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Payment of your school donation gives our school the ability to put more money towards the resources that support our teaching and learning programmes. It doesn't get banked for a rainy day and it doesn't get spent on toilet paper. The more we get, the more we can do for our children. Thank you to all our families for your continued support with these payments. Teacher Contract Meetings Over the last couple of weeks our teachers have attended their contract meetings. By buddying up senior and junior classes for the two afternoons concerned we were able to meet our legal obligations of giving them the chance to attend the meeting while still keeping school open. If you have been keeping up with some of the education news around the different issues that are topical at the moment you will know that there is not much good will existing between the Ministry and teachers. The current contract for teachers and principals ran out in August of this year and if negotiations continue in the same opposing way then the new year could be interesting. Market DayWell done to all the Year 6 students for running another great 'market day' on Monday. They had a lot of fun and raised $1153 towards helping meet some of the extra cost around camp for this year. A big thank you to all the parents who helped them get their stalls sorted and to everyone who sent their child along with a few dollars to spend on the day!

School Resourcing, your Accounts and DonationsRecently we have received our notification of what our staffing and funding will look like for the 2013 school year. As always being a decile 10 school our per student funding in both money and staffing is less than what a lower decile school receives. For example, a decile 3 school that is around the same size as us will receive nearly $50,000 more in operational funding and staffing that equates to at

least one more teaching position.

Teacher Contract MeetingsOver the last couple of weeks our teachers have attended their contract meetings. Shaving cream pies was a popular thing to spend money on at Market Day.

Week 6 Term 4MANUKA are working on using the design process we learnt while making boats, and are applying the skills of imagine, plan, create, test and improve, to a christmas present for someone special. We need a photo of this special person preferably with your child. It could be a parent, grandparent, sibling etc. It would be great if you could email a photo to [email protected] or send one in that can be used as part of the gift. Each child will be writing some questions to ask their special person and bringing these questions home in the weekend in their published story books. We appreciate the support you give your child to find the answers to their questions. They will be finding out about favourite colours and what their special person likes so they can then decorate their project with these things.

Certificates: Charlotte Morris and Hadlee Byers for a fantastic start to their school days.

KOWHAI The Kowhai kids really enjoyed market day on Monday. Thanks to the senior children for their hard work. Yesterday we had an unexpected hatching of a cocoon that Amilea had brought to school weeks ago. After some inquiry thinking, we discovered it was not a butterfly like we thought, but a magpie moth that flies during the day. We are finding out about clocks and telling the time to the hour and half hour this week. What clocks do you have at home? We are also looking at the design process again and thinking about some new projects to create. Keep up the great work at home with the maths flash cards. With lots of practice at home and school we are getting faster and more accurate with our basic facts!Certificates Scott Hoffman

RIMU We are all very excited this week as we had Market Day on Monday and we are presenting assembly on Friday. We have had fun writing 'boring' stories and are now writing exciting stories. We hope to share some of these on Friday. We hope that lots of parents will come to assembly as the children really appreciate the support. We are practising our Family of Facts for maths and we move on to making fractions of sets soon.

Certificates: Magnus Jamieson, Logan Thornton

RATA Over the last couple of weeks the children have really enjoyed making and modifying, 'a boat that will go'. It has been exciting to see the children problem solve and share their joy of coming up with a solution. This has been a successful way for the children to learn about the design process. The children will now use the design process to design and make a Christmas gift. It would be helpful if you could send along empty cereal boxes etc to school. Thanks Evelyn

MIRO It is fantastic to see everyone in Miro with their sun hats. Thank you for your support with this. A wee reminder that homework went home yesterday with new spelling words and a

geometry practice sheet. Our passion projects are underway and the ideas and designs the children have come up with are amazing. We look forward to show casing these later in the term.• Market day was really fun. Jackson• When I played Duck hunters I got in the draw to win a block of chocolate. Olivia• I got soaked and it was fun. Joel• I liked market day because there were two raffles. Georgia• I enjoyed it even though I dropped my wallet in the chilli bin. Timothy

Certificates: Georgia & Adam

TOTARAWe are enjoying creating our photo frames for our Inquiry into the technological process, some students are even developing their handy skills with a saw! We are looking forward to sharing these with you at our end of year sharing celebration...details to follow...so keep an eye out! Remember to have sunhats and a clean water bottle at school.

KAURI Market day was great, thank you for all the contributions from parents and families of our year 6 students. I think we have some wonderful entrepreneurs at Myross Bush School! There was a lot of time and effort put into producing the fabulous food and products to sell. This week we are starting to make our gifts that we have been designing. We are very excited about the production stage of our gifts.

MATAI had a great day on Monday, selling you all lots of goodies! Thank you to all the parents who put in a huge effort baking, making and bringing equipment to school - including the ponies! We raised over $1000 which was a great effort.

We are well under way with our passion projects and this week the students are working towards having a test and working out what they can revise and improve. We are looking forward to sharing our journeys with you at the technology expo in Week 9. You will be able to see our products as well as the process that led us there!

Special thanks to the ILT...
