WORSHIP AID FOR AUGUST 15-16

Opening Hymn — As We Gather at Your Table

As we gather at your table, as we listen to your Word, Help us know, O God, your presence: Let our hearts and minds be stirred. Nourish us with sacred story till we claim it as our own; Teach us through this holy banquet how to make Love’s victory known.

Gracious Spirit, help us summon other guests to share that feast Where triumphant Love will welcome those who had been last and least. There no more will envy blind us nor will pride our peace destroy, As we join with saints and angels to repeat the sounding joy.

Penitential Act B:

Priest: Have mercy on us, O Lord. People: For we have sinned against you. Priest: Show us, O Lord, your mercy. People: And grant us your salvation. Gloria (sung)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord, Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 67

WORSHIP AID FOR AUGUST 15-16

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. (All bow at the following words through “and became man.”) For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the father and the Son, who with the father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Preparation of the Gifts

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of His name, for our good and the good of all His holy Church. Sanctus

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Memorial Acclamation

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again. Invitation to Communion

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Please remain at your seat to receive Holy Communion. The ministers will come to you through the empty row in front of you.

As the minister approaches, please stand if you are able and remove your mask. You are asked to please receive Holy Communion in the hand.

After receiving Communion, you may kneel or be seated and replace your mask.

Communion Hymn — In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all – here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied; for ever sin on Him was laid – here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay, light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me; for I am His and He is mine – bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death – this is the pow’r of Christ in me. From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home – here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Closing Hymn — Let All Things Now Living

Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving to God the Creator triumphantly raise, Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us and guides us with care to the end of our days. God’s banners are o’er us, God’s light goes before us, a pillar of fire shining forth in the night, Till shadows have vanished and darkness is banished, as forward we travel from light into light.

God rules all the forces: the stars in their courses and sun in its orbit obediently shine; The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains, the deeps of the ocean proclaim God divine We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing; with glad adoration a song let us raise Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving: “To God in the highest, Hosanna and praise!”

PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners,

The hurricane season began several weeks ago with Hurricane Isaias being the first to make landfall in the United States in 2020. As the storm moved up the East coast, it eventually lost some of its force and was downgraded to a tropical storm. But for those living in Connecticut and other states along the Eastern seaboard, Isaias still caused extensive damage. Thousands lost power and hundreds of trees fell. Recovery and digging out will be quite a process.

With so many areas of our lives affected by the pandemic, the last thing anyone needs is power out, trees toppling, and additional stress. One thing which has definitely emerged from this pandemic is the reminder of our need to be flexible and resilient. Henri Nouwen wrote this wonderful quotation…

Trees look strong compared with the wild reeds in the field. But, when the storm comes, the trees are uprooted. Whereas the wild reeds, while moved back and forth by the wind, remain rooted and are standing up again when the storm has calmed down.

Flexibility is a great virtue. When we cling to our own positions and are not willing to let our hearts be moved back and forth a little by the ideas or actions of others, we may easily be broken. Being like the wild reeds does not mean being wishy-washy. It means moving a little with the winds of the time while remaining solidly anchored in the ground. A humorless, intense, and opinionated rigidity about current issues might cause these issues to break our spirits and make us bitter. Let’s be flexible while being deeply rooted.

I have been reflecting upon my own flexibility during these past few months. Some days have been better than others, that’s for sure. There will be many things we will learn as a result of going through this pandemic but — as Nouwen suggests — flexibility is such a great virtue. Something for you to reflect upon this week…

Have I been flexible and still rooted in my love of God and love of neighbor?

Have a great week!

Love, Fr. Bill

P.S. Please be extra careful all around our campus — especially in the parking lots. Demolition of the old Valiton Building starts on Monday, and Christ the King School begins classes on Wednesday. The entire Valiton parking lot will be fenced off for the duration of our Fellowship Hall construction project. We anticipate more traffic than usual at the beginning and ending of the school day — as the public school districts will not be providing school bus transportation for the time being. Please follow all directional signs in parking lots and entrances, especially enter and exit signs. Your cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated!

Kudos to CK’s Beyond Our Walls (B.O.W.) Ministry Last weekend the B.O.W. Ministry completed a project at St. Paul’s Community Center in downtown Toledo. It included in-stalling an accordion door for a closet; putting in a glass reception window; and knocking out closet walls to enlarge the recep-tion area. The team at St. Paul’s was very grateful for the work as it required quite a bit of skilled labor.

PARISH NEWS

Parish Nurse Tip of the Week Immunizations to Consider

Before your teens go to college, check with your doctor for a Meningococcal (Meningitis) vaccine. This vaccine protects against bacterial meningitis and blood infection (sepsis). It is a one-time dose and is recommended for adults who live in close, personal contact with others (such as college dorms) and adults who are at increased risk of becoming infected from an outbreak of bacterial meningitis, have damaged spleens, or plan to travel to countries where bacterial meningitis is common.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection that is spread through contaminated food or water or close personal contact. Although it can cause infection in the liver, generally there is no permanent damage.

Hepatitis B is also a viral infection that is spread through blood, saliva, body fluids, and needles. The vaccine pro-tects against this serious liver disease that could become chronic and lead to liver cancer or liver failure. Both Hepatitis A and B are usually given in a two- and three-dose series as infants to adults.

RCIA Sessions this Fall

Are You Interested in the Catholic Faith?

We will soon begin a new journey in faith to share the richness of the Catholic Church and our parish family. You are invited to learn what the Church teaches and be introduced to some of our parish members. These ses-sions also are opportunities for you to ask those perplex-ing questions you may have about the Church. These gatherings are for adults who have never been baptized; Christians who seek to join the Catholic Church; or Cath-olics who never received Confirmation or Eucharist. Ses-sions will be adapted according to the COVID-19 guide-lines. The first session will be Wednesday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. To discuss your questions and learn about the process this year, call Suzanne Marciniak at 419-475-4348, ext. 109, or e-mail [email protected].

Infant Baptism Preparation Infants remind us of the Miracle of Life and the tremendous Gift God gives us. As a community, we offer parents our support and prayers for their families. We live our faith with the hope that new parents will pass on our Faith to the next generation.

First Time Parents — Due to the COVID-19 health situ-ation, in lieu of our regular New Parent Morning of Pray-er and Reflection, Christ the King is offering a remote Baptismal Preparation Course through Ascension Press. CHRIST THE KING SCHOOL NEWS

Whether you’re praying with us in person or remotely, we’re glad you are here to worship with us! For more on our parish, visit www.cktoledo.org.

Dear Parishioners, Thank you very much for your support of our parish school! With school set to begin this week, I wanted to update you on the status of our upcoming school year during this challenging time. The word this spring and summer has been and will continue to be fluid. As we continue to receive more guidance and recommendations, we are tasked with re-evaluating and making necessary decisions for the best interest of our students, families, and staff members. Christ the King School has worked diligently to put a plan in place that was approved by the Toledo Lucas County Health Department on July 15. We want nothing more than to open the doors for all of our students. But, doing that safely has been our driving force all summer. Christ the King is incredibly fortunate to have all who worked tirelessly this summer in preparation for the 2020-2021 school year. There were two task teams that met weekly to put the school in the best position for safety and success. One task team focused on working with the Health Department to get our building ready. This included investing in desk shields, face masks, hand sanitizer, water bottle filling stations, as well as other visuals and personal protective equipment. The students will also remain in their classroom throughout the day. The teachers will rotate to them. The other task team focused on creating a remote learning option for families who felt more comfortable getting the same Christ the King School educational experience from a virtual platform. Throughout the summer, the Health Department has come back with minor additions for our plan in order to best ensure safety for all students and staff members. And, we have consistently modified our plan accordingly. On Thursday, August 6, due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in Lucas County, the Health Department recommended that students begin the school year online at least through October 1. The reason they made it a recommendation and not a mandate is because the size of schools vary, and the resources available are different. Through consultation with members of the Diocese, our own faculty and staff members, as well as the members of our School Advisory Council, we felt that it was necessary to devise a plan that is both safe for our students and staff mem-bers, as well as productive for our students’ educational growth. In an effort to come up with a plan that allows our students to spend time with their teacher — while respecting the recommendations given by the county — we will begin our school year with a staggered start August 19-21. This will be followed by a two-week hybrid model with both in-person and distance learning from August 24 through September 4. Our hope is that the numbers in Lucas County will go down by then, which will allow us to come back to 100% the day after Labor Day — Tuesday, September 8. I believe that by Labor Day we will have a better idea of where we are as a county; and hopefully, we will be able to come back full-time. These two weeks will give our teachers, students, and families time to prepare for both scenarios and allow us to work out any kinks. We are hopeful that we will be back in full force soon, and we cannot wait to see all of the students back again. We do ask you for your prayers that we have created a positive and safe transition back to school for our students. Sincerely,

Mr. Steve Urbanski Principal
