Message from Mr Lakey

It seems like only yesterday I was writing my end of half term message to you all in October! This half term has flew by as quickly as the first and what an exceptionally enjoyable and busy time it has been.

We have had another half term full of visits and visitors, competitions and events abroad as well as nearer to home, many of which have been attended by parents and taken place in the local community.

We are exceptionally proud of all of our students and commend them on their behaviour and maturity. They have proved to be excellent ambassadors while representing the school.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents for their cooperation, attendance at school events, superb support over the year so far and the kind messages of support I have received as Acting Head Teacher since September, all of which are very much appreciated.

This term we have endeavoured to improve communication through our newsletter and regular website and Facebook updates and we hope you have felt this has made a positive impact on your relationship with school.

A massive thank you to all staff, parents and students for a fantastic first term. Wishing you all a well deserved break and a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

We are sorry to sound like a broken

record, however we still have an awful lot of lost property in

school. If your child is missing anything please ask them to

check for items in school. Could we also please ask that where possible, belongings have your child's name written on them.

Thank you!

Year 8 Environment Week

Year 8 were set the challenge of working in groups and researching a particular habitat in the world

and learning all about the endangered species that live

there before producing a spectacular exhibition of work summarising all they had learnt. Each group then presented their exhibition to their classmates before the top 2 in each class

went on to present to the entire year group. It was a close result but huge congratulations must go to Martha, Lauren, Rory and Sam who were crowned the winners for their presentation on the

rainforest. Joint runners up were the Marine group from 8SQ and

Savannah from 8DG. See the website for photos of their

amazing work!

Belgium Battlefields Visit

Here are a few snaps of the Belgium Visit. Please see the school website for lots more and a daily log of activities!

Year 7 It’s a Knockout!

Following a busy week of Christmas activities, today Year 7 let loose with their annual It’s a knock out ! I’m sure you will agree it

looks like all had a fantastic time with 7DE winning the competition!

Year 8 Inter House Challenge

The latest round of competition between all Y8

classes tested their knowledge of flags of the

world, a notable tough chal-lenge. The result was

extremely close with 8DG pipping 8SQ by half a point! 8AS were close behind in

third place. A special mention must go to William M in 8SQ who was the only pupil in the entire year group to score

full marks! After this round, 8DG currently have 60 pupils; 8SQ have 40 and 8AS have 20. Still 4 rounds left to go!

Sing wherever you may be

Pupils in year 5 showed off their singing skills during our karaoke event on Monday. We saw some superb performances,

found some hidden talents and had lots of fun singing our favourite Christmas songs!

Carroting around

Year 5 have been top investigators trying to work out who will be the next Kevin the Carrot . Would it be a sob story with

Oliver onion who wanted to show his many layers, Petunia potato, who wanted to mash Kevin after he roasted her again or Robin runner bean who is tired of Kevin running rings around him?

With superb interrogations Year 5 served up some perfect puns and found multiple Christmas criminals. Great job you

crackered the case!

A Christmas Carol Service

On Wednesday all of year 5 attended the annual carol service with many taking an active part. What an exceptional group of young singers, musicians and

public speakers we have!

Robinwood

Last week 70 Year 6 pupils and 7 members of staff spent the week at Robinwood Activity Centre in Alston. During the three days the pupils did 15 exciting activities including archery, zip wire, trapeze, caving and piranha pool. A fantastic time was had by all and we even had snow on the Thursday night to add to the excitement. The pupils were amazing, their behaviour was first class and they were a pleasure to take away. We had many comments from the Robinwood staff about what fantastic children they were – well done, Year 6!

It’s party time and not one minuet we can lose!

The Key Stage 2 Christmas disco on Tuesday night went down a storm. Both pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves, bopping along to

Christmas tunes all night. All proceeds made from the disco will go to fund other exciting activities for KS2 in the coming year. A special thanks must go to the Year 8 buddies who gave up their own time to help run the tuck shop and Robert who was our amazing DJ for the night – complete with flashing lights, a

snow machine and an 8ft inflatable snowman.

Generation Game

Thank you very much to the parents who came along to the Year 6 Christmas Generation Game on Wednesday morning. It was a very exciting

competition with lots of fun had by all. A huge well done to the parents who were a fantastic sport and were the overall winning team.

Question Time

A massive thank you to all of the parents

that were able to attend our Christmas Quiz on Tuesday. It certainly was a case

of the more the merrier. We had an

amazing time and hope you did too!

Merry Christmas from the Year 5 Team.
