BASIC TV CONNECTIONS
Setup and Quick Use Guide
NOTE: This owner's manual is used with several differ-ent television models. Not all features (and drawings) dis-cussed in this manual will necessarily match those foundwith your television set. This is normal and does notrequire that you contact your dealer or request service.WARNING: TO PREVENT FIRE OR SHOCK HAZ-ARD DO NOT EXPOSE THIS UNIT TO RAIN OREXCESSIVE MOISTURE.
ANTENNA ORCABLE TV
Connect two lengths ofRF coaxial cable to the twooutput plugs on the two-waysignal splitter. The two lengthsof RF coaxial cable must haveF-type connectors (screw-on orpush type) on their ends.
Connect one of the RFcoaxial cables coming fromtwo-way signal splitter to thePIP ANT(enna) “B” input onthe back of the TV and theother RF coaxial cable to theANT(enna) “A” input on theback of the TV.
Your TV has two separateANT(enna)/cable inputs
on the back of the set. Thesetwo signal inputs offer conven-ient hookup options for bothnormal TV program viewingand Picture-In-Picture (PIP)features.
The ANT(enna) “A” input isintended for use and viewingon the TV’s main screen. Yourhome’s primary antenna orcable TV signal should be con-nected to this input for normalTV setup, use, and featureoperation.
The PIP ANT(enna) “B”input is a second, or auxiliary, signal source included for yourTV’s Picture-In-Picture (PIP)feature. For many homes, theuse of a single existing anten-na or cable TV source for bothANT(enna)“A” and PIPANT(enna) “B” will be thepreferred method of connection(see illustration to the right). This type of connection(optional signal splitterrequired) will work properlyfor the TV’s main on-screenfeatures, as well as retain allthe features designed for PIP.For more details on PIP, referto pages 49–52 in theDirections for Use manual thatcame with your set.
ANTENNA A AND B INPUTS
NOTE: Proper operation of your TV is not dependent upon the connection of the PIP ANT(enna) “B” input. The main purpose of theinput is to provide an easily connected, dedicated picture source for the PIP feature. You can, however, use the PIP ANT(enna) “B” input toconnect and display other signal sources such as an outdoor or indoor antenna or a video game player.
Although the PIP ANT(enna) “B” input can be used and swapped as the source for the TV’s main picture, certain setup features (suchas AutoChron) are based only on your TV’s detecting a signal at the ANT(enna) “A” input. To ensure that all features are operating proper-ly, you may not want to rely solely on the PIP ANT(enna) “B” input as your TV’s main screen signal source.

Connect a cable TVsignal to a 75-ohm two-waysignal splitter (an optionalaccessory).
Or
Connect an outdoor orindoor antenna signal to the75-ohm two-way signal split-ter. If your antenna has flattwin-lead wire (300 ohm), youmust first attach the antennawires to the screws on a 300-to 75-ohm adapter before con-necting to the two-way signalsplitter.

You can treat theoutput connection of a satel-lite receiver as you would astandard antenna or cable TVsignal, except the satellitesignal should not be split asshown in the illustration tothe right. The satellite signalshould go directly into theANT(enna) “A” input con-nection on the back of theTV. Then, if you would like, use the PIP ANT(enna) “B”input connection for eitheran outdoor/indoor antenna orcable TV signal. Refer to theowner’s manual for the satel-lite box to get further infor-mation on connections.

The AutoLock feature can help par-ents censor what their children
watch on TV. AutoLock receives con-tent advisories sent by broadcasters orother program providers. After youprogram AutoLock, it can respond tothe content advisories and block pro-grams that contain content which youmay consider objectionable—offensivelanguage, violence, or sexual situa-tions.
In this section, you’ll learn how toblock channels and programming thatis not rated, is unrated, or has no rat-ing. You will also find out how to turnthese blocking features on or off.Following on this page are brief expla-nations of AutoLock terms and pro-gram ratings.
TermsBLOCKING control—can be thoughtof as the “master switch” forAutoLock. This control affects the set-tings you have chosen for blockingprograms according to movie ratingsor TV ratings, or for blocking pro-grams that have no rating or are unrat-ed. When the BLOCKING control isOFF, the blocking or censoring of pro-grams is disabled. When the BLOCK-ING control is ON, blocking willoccur according to the settings youhave chosen.
BLOCK UNRATED control—if setto ON, blocks all unrated programs.Unrated programming consists of thekind of shows that the MPAA (MotionPicture Association of America) or theTV broadcasters have chosen not torate.
NO RATING control—if set to ON,blocks all programming with no con-tent advisory data. Programming that has No Rating is notencoded with any rating informationfrom the MPAA or the ParentalGuidelines. Any programming couldfall into this category.

Picture-in-Picture (PIP) • Basic Connections
Picture-In-Picture (PIP) is the show-ing of two pictures on the TV screen
at the same time (one main screen pic-ture and one small picture, or PIP). ThisTV has two separate inputs (ANT[enna]“A” and PIP ANT[enna] “B”) for yourhome’s Antenna and/or Cable TV systemsignals. ANT “A” is referred to onscreen as “TUNER-A,” and PIP ANT“B” is referred to as “TUNER-B.”
The ANT “A” input is primarily for theTV’ s main screen picture. The PIPANT “B” input is provided as a seconddedicated source option for the TV’sPIP “window” and its feature opera-tions. The signal connected to the PIPANT “B” input can be either a split sig-nal input (as described and illustratedon this page) or a separate external sig-nal source (such as an additional homeantenna, satellite dish system, or videoaccessory device).
See the following steps on how channelsconnected to the PIP ANT(enna) “B”input can be shown and used within thePIP window.
Use an RF coaxial cable to con-nect a cable or satellite signal to thesingle 75-ohm input plug on a two-way signal splitter (not supplied).
Connect two lengths of RF coax-ial cable to the two output plugs onthe two-way signal splitter.
Connect one of the RF coaxialcables coming from the two-waysignal splitter to the ANT(enna)“A” input on the back of the set. Then connect the other RF coaxialcable coming from the two-way sig-nal splitter to the PIP ANT(enna) “B”input on the back of the TV.
