ITINERARY: 17 NIGHTS MAURITIUS TO ZANZIBARDAY 1: DEPART PORT LOUIS, MAURITIUSBoard at Port Louis Terminal at 3:00pm for a 5:00pm departure.

DAYS 2-17: Throughout this expedition, your Expedition Team may make changes to the itinerary in order to maximise your expeditionary experience. Below are the key destinations we visit.

RÉUNIONEnjoy two excursion options. On a full-day tour, visit the central highlands where ancient volcanoes tower, waterfalls plummet hundreds of feet and vanilla and fruit plantations perfume the air. Look over spectacular Nez des Bouefs and Piton de la Fournaise, enjoy a lunch of creole cuisine, and visit the Cité du Volcan museum. A relaxed half-day option will take you to a historic vanilla plantation and later you will enjoy free time in Saint-Denis.

ISALO & ZOMBITSE-VOHIBASIA NATIONAL PARKSJourney inland to the Zombitse-Vohibasia and Isalo National Parks, to see a variety of beautiful habitats and look for the White Sifaka Lemur. Overnight at a local hotel, and in the morning, hike to the Piscine Naturelle pool for a swim or spot lemurs in the lush forest before rejoining Coral Geographer.

ANDAVADOAKA & NOSY HAOVisit a Vezo fishing village, which lies on the edge of a reef-fringed lagoon that provides vital resources for the local subsistence fishing industry. Many marine species and some of the best Indian Ocean reefs have been found here. Learn about community projects that promote sustainable resource management and later, visit tiny Nosy Hao to snorkel and relax on sandy white beaches.

BELO SUR MERAt Belo Sur Mer, be greeted by a sweeping white beach and clear emerald waters. Visit a village of Vezo fishermen and experience the relaxed atmosphere and an authentic ancestral way of life. We may be lucky to see the launch of a pirogue, the wooden boats that are built here, which is cause for a brilliant festival.

MORONDAVA A forest walk at Kirindy Reserve is an opportunity to spot lemurs and perhaps the elusive fossa. Later, we visit the otherworldly Avenue of the Baobabs, ‘the most beautiful road in Madagascar’. The avenue is at the centre of a local conservation campaign aiming to protect it as Madagascar’s first natural monument.

MAHAJANGA & ANKARAFANTSIKA NATIONAL PARKEnjoy a full day exploring the park on guided walks to spot birds, chameleons and lemurs like the adorably photogenic Coquerel’s Sifaka. Later, we may visit Durrell Wildlife Park’s breeding program for the critically endangered ploughshare tortoise.

MOZAMBIQUE ISLANDExplore tiny Mozambique Island, a World Heritage site with a fascinating blend of African, Arab and European cultures. Go back in time as we stroll among colonial buildings and small traditional houses. Visit Stone Town and the oldest European building in the Southern Hemisphere, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Baluarte.

IBO ISLANDArrive at Ibo Island in the afternoon, and meet local guides who take us through streets that were almost forgotten to the outside world for nearly a century. Ibo Island is one of the most ancient settlements in Mozambique, dating back to early 600AD.

KILWA KISIWANIExplore the World Heritage Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani, a 14th century medieval sultanate that was one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Wander through the haunting ruins of Malindi Mosque, Fort Gereza, the tombs of Sultans, and the palace of Husuni Kubwa.

DAY 18: ARRIVE ZANZIBARArrive in Zanzibar at 9:00am to disembark at 10:30am. A complimentary transfer is provided to the airport or hotel.

INCLUSIONS• All shore excursions, including hiking, kayaking and birdwatching and snorkelling• Presentations, briefings & workshops by our highly experienced Expedition Team• All meals, with morning and afternoon tea • Selected beers, wines, juices & soft drinks with lunch and dinner service, and 24 hour tea and coffee• Daily room service• Post-cruise transfers • Open bridge access and engine room tours• All fees & gratuities

The eastern edge of Africa stands at the crossroads of African, Asian, European and Middle Eastern cultures. On Coral Expeditions’ new Coral Geographer, take in the coastlines of Mauritius, Réunion, Madagascar, Mozambique and Tanzania over 17 exotic nights. From the comfort of a modern expedition ship, explore lands that only hardy traders in search of ancient spices ventured to in the past.

Enchanting Malagasy and Creole culture emanate from colourful street-side markets. Wildlife and wild landscapes rise above sparkling seas inhabited by tropical fish. Lush rainforests hide native lemurs and ancient ruins hold rich history. With a maximum of 120 guests, Coral Geographer is designed to take you in intimate comfort to remote places few other ships can reach.
