WHAT IS A"CORRESPONDENT"?

CORRESPONDENTS:

Correspondents are membersof the National Academies whoelect to be kept informed ofthe CHR's events and activities.

Roughly 1,500 members of theAcademies serve as CHRCorrespondents.

The CHR is a standingmembership committee of theNational Academies ofSciences, Engineering, andMedicine. It serves as a bridgebetween the human rights andscientific communities, inrecognition of the importanceof rights protection for scientificinquiry and the realization ofhuman dignity worldwide.

The CHR:

-advocates in support ofcolleagues subjected to serioushuman rights abusesworldwide, with a focus onindividuals targeted for theirprofessional activities or theexercise of other internationallyprotected rights.

-assists colleagues under threatby linking them to a range ofsupport services.

-raises awareness of issues atthe intersection of science,

technology, health, and humanrights through events,publications, and other media.
