THE GIBRALTAR AREA SCHOOLS DESIGN FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

In-school teaching and in-school learning is the best and preferred design for a Gibraltar education.Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, Gibraltar Area School District will transition back toin-school teaching and learning for all students. Due to the continued COVID-19 health pandemic, theDistrict will continue to provide access to in-school teaching for students who are in quarantine orhave other fragile medical conditions. The administration will continue to review the guidance of DoorCounty Health Services and the Door County Medical Center in determining the necessity and scopeof student and staff quarantining at home.

The Gibraltar Schools assure that all children are taught their 2021-2022 grade level or subjectcourse curricula by providing in-school teaching and in-school student learning. Students inquarantine will also be provided with access to in-school teaching when they are restricted to at-homelearning. All children will receive the same curricular instruction regardless of their learning location.

Learning (Student Quarantine)

Instruction will be presented in-school using all available classroom and school resources. Theadministration will shift instruction from in-school to at-home for students in quarantine.

The administration will monitor the availability of school personnel to provide daily instruction,instructional support, transportation, food services, and/or school cleaning and will move all studentsfrom in-school learning to at-home learning if there are not enough essential personnel.

TRANSPORTATIONGibraltar Schools recognize that transportation to and from school is an educational right given to allstudents. However, bus transportation is a higher-risk activity during the COVID-19 pandemic forunvaccinated students. The District is committed to its responsibility to transport students, and will doso in the safest manner possible. The District encourages parents/guardians who wish to reduce riskto transport unvaccinated students to and from school.

Physical changes to the bus:1. PPE and cleaning supplies will be stocked on the bus for the use of school employees.2. A hand sanitizer station will be installed near the drivers cabin on the bus.3. When practical, windows will be lowered when the bus is in transit to increase air flow throughout the

bus.4. Students will be provided with assigned seats. Family members will be assigned to sit together.5. Pod seating will be used whenever possible. (students in classroom cohorts)

Cleaning protocols:1. After each route is completed, the bus driver will sanitize the bus using materials provided by the

district.2. During this cleaning process all windows on the bus will be opened and the door will be opened.3. The bus driver will be provided SDS sheets for materials used to clean the bus- these sheets will

remain on the bus.4. The bus driver will wear appropriate PPE when cleaning the bus.

Additional Transportation Services:1. Late bus route to support after-school study and approved extra-curricular activities.

Expectations for passengers:1. All individuals riding a school bus are required to wear a facemask.2. Upon entering and exiting the bus, passengers will use hand sanitizer.3. All passengers will social distance as much as possible.4. Passengers will not change seats.5. Passengers will not eat or drink on the bus.6. Passengers will not share any materials or items on the bus.7. Passengers will exit the bus one at a time with others remaining in seats to avoid congestion at the exit.8. Passengers will be assigned seats.

STUDENT ENTRY / EXITEntry procedures:

1. School doors will open at 8:00.2. Staff will be in classrooms with the door open at 8:00.3. Students will enter the building and proceed to their classrooms.4. School busses will drop off students in the back of the building.5. Elementary parents will use the bus lane for dropping off students.6. Secondary parents will drop off students in front of the secondary school.7. Parents and/or visitors will not exit vehicles.8. All students are required to wear masks while on the bus.9. K-6 students will wear masks while entering/exiting the school and while in the building.

Exit Procedures1. Parents/guardians must stay in vehicles when picking up students.2. Elementary students will be walked to the bus by the classroom teacher or aide.3. Secondary students riding the bus will exit through the back of the building.4. Parents/guardians will utilize the bus lane in front of school to pick up elementary students.5. Secondary parents/guardians will pick up students in front of the Secondary Entrance.6. Parents and/or visitors will not exit vehicles.7. All students are required to wear masks while on the bus.8. K-6 students will wear masks while entering/exiting the school and while in the

building.

CLEANING PROTOCOL

The school will engage in heightened cleaning protocols and documentation of completion ofcleaning.

Daily/General Cleaning:1. Maintenance Staff will accomplish the following on a daily basis:

a. Provide and stock sanitation materials approved by administration in instructionalsettings.

b. Provide and stock hand sanitation stations in the school building.c. Provide and stock cleaning supplies on busses.d. Clean every bathroom in the building two times a day. (Document using template)e. Clean every classroom daily. (Document using template)f. Clean door handles, railings, and other high traffic areas.g. Prepare for a deep clean of the entire school if school closes.h. The maintenance staff will collect documentation templates on a weekly basis and turn

these items into the superintendent.i. The administration will conduct periodic reviews and inspections of cleaning practices.

2. Teachers will accomplish the following on an as needed basis:a. Each student will be assigned a desk for personal use.b. If students will be utilizing shared seating, the teacher is responsible to clean the area

with disinfectant between students.c. Any classroom shared material (playground equipment, instructional supplies) must be

cleaned after each use.

Deep Cleaning:1. In the case that deep cleaning of an area is warranted, Maintenance will accomplish the

following:a. Disinfect all surfaces. Including but not limited to: desks, tables, countertops, sinks,

chairs.b. Disinfect all highly touched areas including but not limited to: railings, handles, pulls,

knobs, push plates, light switches.c. Staff conducting this cleaning will wear the following PPE:

i. Glovesii. Facemask (Following District Requirements)iii. Lab safety goggles if using a battery or pump operated sprayer

d. Staff will utilize a tag out procedure using painters tape to document cleaning and areasthat have been occupied since last cleaning.

e. The maintenance supervisor will email the superintendent listing the date and timewhen the deep cleaning process has been completed and in what areas of the building.

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION & GRADE 6

This section outlines the procedures in place to maximize both safety and learning under all points ofthe Gibraltar Continuum of Education under COVID-19 for Grades K-6

ConceptGibraltar Elementary School will implement a “one-room schoolhouse” concept.

Assessment● Grading will follow a standard procedure which includes a numerical score (1, 2, 3, or 4) for

each student in the following areas: reading, writing, math, science, social studies and allspecials areas.

● Mandatory state testing updates are forthcoming. (Wisconsin Forward Exam)
