We are pleased to be able to offer the 2020 NATA Educational Conference, and hope you will take the opportunity to join us and participate in the valuable learning experiences provided.
2020 NATA Conference - AT-A-GLANCE
Due to COVID-19, the conference has been modified to meet state and local guidelines in cooperation with Iowa Central Comunity College. We have implemented the following changes to this year’s conference:
• Classes are offered on Saturday, November 7, 2020 only, with the exception of the two-day “Essentials of Fire Fighting” class on Saturday and Sunday.
• The 2020 NATA Conference location has moved to the East Campus of ICCC, with the 2-Day Essentials of Fire Fighting class at the Iowa Central Community College Emergency Response Training Center (see Locations). • Registration for classes is via online only this year. No phone or mail-in registrations are available. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
• Registration Fees: One-Day classes = $45.00; Two-Day class = $60.00; $15.00 Volunteer Firefighter Training Fund Credit where applicable.
• Lunch, and t-shirts are no longer included in the registration fee. Lunch is now the participants’ responsibility, so extra time has been allocated to get food (see Schedule).
• Face masks are required.
• Class sizes are limited - REGISTER EARLY! Registration deadline is Thursday, November 5, 2020.
• Please pay special attention to the protective equipment requirements and prerequisites for each class.
• ICCC has approved Formal Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) for the EMS classes.

This course will review Pediatric anatomy and physiology and how they differ from adults. Explanation of pediatric assessment and key indicators of evaluating sick vs. notsick. This course will review general guidelines for treatment. With everything COVID this course will discussvarious respiratory illnesses and treatments along with the newest trends in airway devices and adjuncts.
HEART STOPPER:REVIEW OF CARDIAC EMERGENCIES
SUBSTANCE ABUSE – THE DOWN AND DIRTY

Discuss EMS care for chest pain patient and understanding a cardiac event as a time critical event. Review assessment and treatments for cardiac emergencies. Substance abuse is all around us. This course will review what toxidromes are and how they are used to identify and predict symptoms. Go over assessments and identify safety hazards.

WILDERNESS EMERGENCIES
Instructors: Jody Brincks Paramedic, CCP Boone Co. Hospital; Deputy Brian Pontius. Boone Co. Sheriff;Captain Chip Zehner, AEMT Boone Fire Dept.
With the increase in people participating in outdoor sports, what are some injuries and medical emergencies we could be called on to treat? What special considerations do we need to address while treating boating accidents, fishing accidents, shooting injuries, and hunting and trapping injuries? This course will help answer these questions.

ESSENTIALS OF FIRE FIGHTING (2-day class)
Instructor: Fort Dodge Fire Department
This course will provide new fighters with a general understanding of basic skills and equipment used frequently on the fire ground. It will also serve as a refresher for experienced firefighters. Participants will use the skills learned in the course as a solid foundation to build their knowledge and experience to become more effective during emergency responses.
Class Limit: 12Location: Iowa Central Regional Emergency Response Training CenterEquipment/Gear Required: Full protective clothing, S.C.B.A. and spare cylinder.
EMS/Fire class: This class is of interest to both fire and emergency response personnel. Participants will receive 6 hours of formal Continuing Education Hours (CEHs).
Fire class: This class is of interest to new firefighters and allows for hands-on experience. This is a 2-Day class held on both Saturday and Sunday at the Iowa Central Community College Regional Emergency Response Training Center, 1521 Ave. O, Fort Dodge. Participants should go directly to that location to check in on Saturday AM.

ROPE RESCUE
Instructors: PRI and FSTB Instructors
This course provides information and skills necessary to perform rescues utilizing ropes. Topics include size-up and scene management, knots, equipment, anchors, ascending/descending techniques, and mechanical advantages. Students will participate in rescue evolutions under supervision of the instructors.

FIRE GROUND SUPPORT
Instructors: PRI and FSTB Instructors
This class covers the many duties of truck company operations. A classroom session covers the tasks that must be conducted in order to be an effective truck company, the riding assignments and how they can work for your department. Also covered is apparatus positioning and apparatus operations at a fire scene. The bulk of the program is conducted using hands-on training. Topics covered are forcible entry, Vent-Enter-Search, search techniques, peak and flat roof ventilation, horizontal ventilation, and other company tactics.

VEHICLE FIRE
Instructors: FSTB/TS1 Instructors
In this class students will learn to recognize the hazards associated with vehicles, such as bumpers, driveshafts, and passive restraint systems. Identification of scene hazards, apparatus placement, and identifying challenges of forcible entry into vehicle compartments to effect extinguishment are discussed. In addition, hose line selection, assembly, and operation, and techniques to access engine passenger and storage compartments for rapid fire suppression will be presented. This course combines both classroom and hands-on training utilizing the new car fire prop offered through the FSTB.

FSTB Vehicle Fire Fighting Prop
Fire class: The following fire fighting and rescue classes are of interest to firefighters and allow for hands-on experience. All of these classes will be held at the East Campus Shop. Individuals from Iowa volunteer and combination departments registered in the following classes will receive a $15.00 reduction per day in their fire school registration, due to partial grant funding from the Volunteer Firefighters Training Fund.

Refund/Cancellation Policy:A full refund will be given for cancellations prior toNovember 5, 2020. After that date, there will be no refunds! This policy will be strictly adhered to. NATA reserves the right to cancel any session that does not meet the minimum registration requirement or to change the instructor.

General InformationPersonal Protective Equipment:If personal protective equipment requirements apply, it is indicated in the class description. Students must provide the following equipment in order to participate:
• Helmet (NFPA compliant)• Protective hood• Coat with liner (NFPA compliant)• Pants with liner (NFPA compliant) (Note: 3/4 length boots are not approved in place of pants.)• Firefighting boots• Gloves (Cal/OSHA or NFPA compliant)• Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) with spare cylinder (Note: Cylinders under current hypostatic test will be refilled at no cost.)
Beards (facial hair): Persons with beards, sideburns, or other hairstyles that interfere with the proper seal of a breathing apparatus face piece will not be allowed to participate in hands-on portions of classes requiring the use of SCBA or involving live fire. Persons with beards may attend the classroom portion and participate in other portions of the class which do not require SCBA or do not involve live fire. No exceptions will be made to these requirements.
Age Requirement Policy:All students must be 18 years of age or older.
Health Warning:Certain programs offered require significant physical exertion and stamina. Persons with heart, respiratory, or other physical conditions that may be aggravated by this type of exertion, or that may hinder their participation should not participate in the program.
