LAPFCU is pleased to have the opportunity to assist our young members in furthering their educational goals through our annual scholarship competition. This year, eight $4,500 Excellent Achievement awards and one $6,000 grand prize will be awarded.

Herein, please find the application materials. Part one of the application process is a written essay. Our 2020 essay topic is:

“Technology increasingly provides access to more information, empowerment, and social

interaction. Yet, it can also cause greater disconnection with the physical world and in-

person socialization. How can you, society, and law enforcement create strong relationships in the face of changing technological dynamics?”

The essay must be between 500 and 1,000 typed words and will be judged along with your

completed application and documents.

Applications and all supporting documents must be submitted or postmarked by July 1. Winners will be notified July 31.

Below are instructions for completing and submitting your application.

1. Grade Point Average (GPA) Please provide your GPA and include your most recent transcript. Note: Transcripts must include the

applicant’s name and the name of the institution.

2. Extracurricular Activities (If you need more space, please provide an attachment.)a. Scholarship Awards Include any scholarships you have been awarded.b. Community Involvement Be sure to let us know about all the community activities you are involved with either through

school or outside.c. School and/or Work Related Activities Include any labs, sports activities and other involvements.

3. 2020 Essay Question Your essay must be between 500 and 1,000 typed words and will be judged along with your completed

• Scholarship Applicant must be an LAPFCU member at time of application submission. No applications will be accepted until membership is verified.

• Applicant must be between 17- and 22-years-old and in good standing with LAPFCU.

• Applicant must be accepted/enrolled in an accredited university, college, junior college, technical or trade school for Fall 2020.

• Scholarships will be awarded based upon combination of GPA, extracurricular activities, scholastic awards and achievements, community involvement and a written essay.
