2. Patrick Masokwane

Dr Patrick Masokwane is the Deputy Director of Health Services in Botswana. He is among the group that founded the Botswana Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship. He has worked in Princess Marina Hospital in the past for over ten years. Dr Masokwane is married to Neo Masokwane and they are blessed with two sons Balogun and Dwayne.

3. Jonathan Pons

Dr Jonathan Pons, has worked in rural medicine all his life, including remote places in South Africa, Canada, Kenya, Mozambique and Eswatini, where he currently works as Director and Ophthalmologist in a mission hospital. In his free time, he manages a Snakebite research centre, Medical Missions Eswatini (an NGO dedicated to the spread of the Gospel through Medicine) and a small family farm. Jono follows a call from the Lord, heard as a medical student, to serve those most in need.

4. Celso Belo

Dr Celso Belo was born in 1983 and live in Mozambique. He is married and father of 2 kids, Nathan and Tayla. Following Christ for 15 years. Professionally, has accumulated experience for 10 years as an academic, researcher and manager. He graduated as a doctor in February 2009. Since then, he is a Member of the Medical Bureau and Medical Association of Mozambique.

Since early 2010 is working in Lúrio University, a public university located in the northern region of Mozambique (Nampula) as an assistant lecturer. He started teaching Radiology to third year students. After that was promoted to become the Head of Medicine Department, a position held for 2 years.

In June 2012 he was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, a position which he has been holding up to now. In parallel, he is likewise involved in other activities such as research (principal investigator in the project “Alert Community to Prepared Hospital”, 2016-2020,

INNOVATING FOR MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH IN AFRICA), leading academic and Christian trainings, and missionary work in rural areas of Nampula.

Dr Belo completed, in February 2016, a Master’s Program in Medical Sciences (Occupational and Environmental Health) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa).

He has participated in several trainings and events (national and international) regarding academia, research, ethics, and projects management.

5. Mulinda Nyirenda

Dr. Mulinda Nyirenda is a clinician, researcher and educator in medicine - passionate about emergency care. She is based in Blantyre, Malawi. She found the synergy of her faith in God and medical practice while serving CMDF Malawi in many roles since her medical school years to date. She serves on the ICMDA board.

6. Chido Rwafa

Dr. Chido Rwafa Madzvamutse is a wife and mother of two. She is a Zimbabwean Medical Doctor and Specialist Psychiatrist with a passion for community awareness on emotional and mental health issues. She facilitates workshops to bring greater awareness about mental health and has compiled several information booklets to bring the spotlight on mental health in our African communities. These include: The Psychological Impact of Trauma; Burnout Survival Toolkit for Health Workers; Mental Health and the Workplace; Mental Health of Pastors and Church Leaders; Smiling for real (understanding and overcoming Depression in the Strong African Woman) and Filling our cups (a handbook on mental health self care).

7. Mfanelo Sobekwa

Dr Mfanelo Sobekwa serves as part of the executive committee for Christian Medical Fellowship South Africa. He has been serving as the ICMDA Southern Africa Regional Representative for students and junior graduates, a responsibility he will now vacate after this regional conference in order to serve as the ICMDA Saline Representative for Sub-Saharan Africa. He is a lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand and works and lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, where his clinical interest lies in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Palliative Medicine

8. Tygie Nadesan

Dr Tygie Nadesan is a family physician, practising in Durban for more than forty years. He has a Masters in Family Medicine and Diploma in HIV.He has been a member of CMF South Africa since the 1980s having mentored by Prof Sam Ross and Daryl Hackland. Tygie’s involvement with the Durban CMF spans over an uninterrupted period of forty years, even during the days of Apartheid. He became senior leader of Durban CMF in 2003 and continued in this position until 2016 when he was appointed as regional secretary for Southern Africa in 2016 by Dr Vinod Shah.He and his wife, Saras, have three children and seven grandchildren.

Tygie is a lay minister at his church, Bethesda Temple Durban. He has spoken at many CMF meetings through out Southern Africa and at the ICMDA conference in India. He loves to sing and he is always ready with his guitar to lead in praise and worship.

Tygie has a sincere desire to raise up young people to be witnesses for Christ as they minister to the sick and poor.

9. Maria Akani

Dr Akani is a Psychiatrist and Clinical Neuropsychologist with over a decade of experience practicing mental health in Zambia. She is also the Founder and Managing Consultant for a Private Practice called Renaissance that deals with Mental health solutions. Dr Akani met Christ in February 1993 and has been an active laborer of the Lord since. She is married and has 2 children.
