American Museum of Philadelphia, Chroma Gallery, and the Lowe Gallery. She continues to observe and record my thoughts on the nature of our existence through painting, and I share my love of this medium by teaching the craft to others. Melissa Newell recently retired as an Art Instructor from Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington. She received a M.F.A. in art from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and a B.A. in art from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. In addition to making art and writing, my work includes community art advocacy projects focused on art education and creative collaborations. I have served as a juror for Bumbershoot, the Edmonds Art Festival, and numerous Washington State Arts public works projects and have led workshops for adults and children in art since 1984. Long interested in a variety of materials and surfaces, my work includes the use of mixed media.

3D Artworks: Mike Magrath Michael has spent most of his life in the Pacific Northwest where he discovered sculpture in his early thirties. He has studied and taught in a number of rich sculptural environments, including the University of Washington, the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, and Gage Art Academy. He spent a decade in the building trades and brings a craftsman’s approach to his work and his interest in the figure naturally steers toward the narrative and symbolic. His primary focus lies in the embodiment and reinterpretation of mythology in contemporary contexts, and is most interested in its potential to reinvigorate the human spirit, particularly in the face of the cynicism of the modern world.
