FIRST DAY OF CAMPEach camper will be provided through email a camp newsletter and calendar the Friday prior to camp. Please ensure your email on your account is up to date. This letter will outline the planned activities for the week.

EACH DAY AT CAMPLunches: Please pack nutritious, nut-free lunches and snacks each day. We ask that all campers and families be attentive to others’ special dietary needs. All East Gwillimbury camps strive to be “nut-aware”. In addition, please send campers with a refillable water bottle.

Clothing / Sunscreen: Campers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes, and to dress appropriately for the weather. Since campers are outside part of the day, hats and sunscreen are strongly encouraged. A knapsack labelled with the camper’s name is advisable, as well as labelling other items. Campers are advised not to bring any valuables to camp, as they are responsible for their own belongings. Please pack additional clothing.

ABSENT FROM CAMPIf you know in advance that your child will be absent please send a note

to the Camp Supervisor or contact Recreation Services at 905-478-3826.

Camp Supervisors will call home on a daily basis to confirm your child’s absence.

MEDICAL INFORMATION Ensure that all medical concerns (medications, allergies, epi-pen, etc.) are completely documented during registration.

INCLUSION NEEDSWhen considering a recreation experience, please consider the individual needs, and that the recreation integrated setting may not be suitable for all persons with disabilities. Health and safety of participants and staff is paramount, which could result in participants being denied access to the program.

The Town of East Gwillimbury attempts to accommodate requests for additional support for children with special needs. However, due to the number of requests or level of care required, support cannot be guaranteed. Accommodation can be made subject to health, safety and cost considerations.

Should your child require extra support, please contact Recreation

Services at 905-478-3826 to discuss their needs, information on counsellors and to register.

STAFFOur staff are selected on the basis of past experience, skills, enthusiasm and passion to work with children. Our staff must be certified in first aid, submit a police vulnerable sector check and be High Five certified.

Important Camp InfoImportant Camp Info

This is a volunteer program for teens who have some

experience working with children or for those who have

completed the LIT program. CIT’s must volunteer for

a minimum of two weeks during the summer, with the

opportunity to volunteer for additional weeks. Every effort

will be made to accommodate their first camp choice

however it is not guaranteed. The focus of this program

is to develop their skills, participate in all aspects of camp

and dive in as a member of the camp team! Due to the

large volume of volunteers, unfortunately not all volunteer

applicants may be accepted. Those accepted as CIT’s will

be required to attend to an information training session.

DISCOUNTSThe following discounts are applicable to our Summer Camp 2020 programs: Third and subsequent Child(ren): When there are three or more children in the same family taking part in the same week of summer camp, the third and

subsequent child(ren) will receive a

$20 discount (excluding Busing and

Extended Hours fees).

REFUND POLICIESFull refund – If a program is

cancelled prior to the session

beginning, you will be contacted by

telephone and issued a full refund.

Partial refund – You will receive a partial

refund if a written request is received by

Recreation Services one week prior to

the start of the camp. Refunds will be

deducted the $20 administration fee. We

regret that we are unable to reimburse

funds once a session has commenced.

Transfers – If you wish to transfer

your child from one camp to another

there will be a $20 administration fee.

Medical – Medical reasons will

be considered if a written request

and medical note are received by

Recreation Services before the week

ends. You will only receive a refund

for the missed days minus a $20

administration fee. Please allow three

to five weeks for the processing of

your refund.

Extended camp hours will be offered at Ross Family Complex, Holland Landing Community Centre and Harvest Hills Activity Centre.

NOTE: Busing is not included with extended hours registration.

Adventure Camp participants registered at MACC and wishing to use extended hours at Ross Family Complex, will be bused to and from Mount Albert Community Centre at no extra cost.

Extended care will not be available at Harvest Hills for week 9 of camp.

TRANSPORTATIONBusing is available to and from many camps. Campers are required to follow safety rules on the bus at all times. Campers who normally ride the bus will not be permitted to walk home unless a written note is sent to the camp supervisor indicating permission. Any concerns regarding busing can be directed to Recreation Services, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 905-478-3826.

JR. CAMP — 4-6 yearsThis camp is perfect for the first time camper. Campers will play different games and sports throughout the day and participate in various arts & craft activities. Campers can even dress up on the theme days.

JR. & SR. SPORTS & MORE CAMP — 4-6 years & 7-12 yearsIs your camper full of energy? Does your camper like different sports? Every day campers get to play a variety of sports, games and activities. Some sports & activities include: the bouldering wall, floor hockey, basketball, and team building activities.

THEATRE CAMP — 5-7 yearsWe are thrilled to offer this popular, exciting and creative summer camp program for young actors, provided by the Canadian Children’s Theatre Co. Children will be led step-by-step through the theatrical process as they focus on acting, comedy and staging. The young actors will build confidence and teamwork in preparation for their performance featuring a collection of popular and zany stories by Robert Munsch. Children will also benefit from a variety of theatre workshops including clowning, improv, puppetry, mask and basic acting instruction as well as participate in theatre games and production crafts. Laughter and applause are guaranteed as the actors showcase their talents before adoring fans on the final day of camp.

ACTING OUT! CAMP — 5-10 yearsThis dynamic and interactive performance camp features a variety of stimulating, fast-paced workshops such as: Puppets on Stage, Mad Hatters, Clowning Around, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Whose Line Is It?, So We Know You Can Dance, Behind the Stunts, Play in a Day and more! Taught in a fun and creative atmosphere by the Canadian Children’s Theatre Co., children will be introduced to the joys of the performing arts while they gain confidence and allow their vibrant personalities to flourish.

STEAM CAMP — 5-12 yearsThe STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) Camp is the perfect place to send children who love creating things with their hands and making their ideas come to life. Campers will participate in a variety of fun, hands-on activities with a focus on innovation, engineering, design, coding, art, robotics and outdoor activities. Our strong focus on designing, creating and thinking allows campers to develop their artistic side while they learn about science and technology. We promote critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.

DANCE CAMP — 6-10 yearsJump, spin and dance to the music! This lively and exciting dance camp program offered by the Canadian Children’s Theatre Co. will combine the basic aspects of ballet, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre and introduce campers to the joys of dance! Participants will be given the opportunity to develop grace and creativity, while having fun and allowing their personalities to flourish. The dancer’s efforts will be rewarded with the rich sound of applause during their final performance for family and friends on the last day of camp featuring music from a variety of popular family movies.

KARATE CAMP — 6-10 yearsThis camp presents an opportunity for campers to become actively involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan

Karate. The Karate sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association (IKA Canada). A friendly, encouraging atmosphere will be created to make it an enjoyable and fun experience. A karate gi (uniform) will be supplied as part of the registration cost.

KIDS CAMP — 6-10 yearsThis camp is for children who love variety in their day! Campers will participate in traditional camp activities like games, sports, arts & crafts, and more! Special weekly activities will include skating and water day.

KIDS GREAT MINDS CARTOON COMPUTER ANIMATION — 6-11 yearsDive into STEAM with computer animation technology. This camp will enhance your child?s creativity and bring their inspiring stories to life, while encouraging them to share and inspire others. They will work collaboratively in a guided, learning, computerized environment and explore their own self-expression to animate story lines they create. In this camp, your child will learn story-boarding, create short computer animated cartoons, television shows or movies, and develop logical thinking skills.

ARTS & CRAFTS CAMP — 6-12 yearsArts & Craft camp allows campers to use their creative talents in a variety of ways. Each day campers will get the opportunity to create different projects such as: watercolour paintings, jewellery, clay figures, sketches and much more! Be prepared, campers will get to take home everything they make to show their families!

KIDS/CANSKATE — 6-12 yearsIn partnership with Skate Canada NCCP professional coaches, campers will enjoy 10 fun hours of on-ice instruction and can earn CANSkate ribbons and badges! Off ice classes led by experts in their field include: dance, yoga, fitness, skipping, flexibility and theatre performance. Campers will learn about nutrition through creating their own tasty snacks and use fabric paint to decorate their very own skating gloves (provided)! Note: If you have NOT registered for a Skate Canada program in 2019-20, a $35 member fee is additional. Skaters must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet until completed Stage 5 and wear sharpened skates that fit! Please send your camper with snow/splash pants, sweater/jacket, mitts, running shoes, lunch, water bottle and sunscreen.

KIDS/STARSKATE — 6+ yearsPrerequisite: Registered in Junior STARSkate or above for 2019-20 season or by approval of director. Contact Lianne at [email protected]. Skaters will have 3 hours of ice per day including 60 minutes of fully-coached classes in edges, turns, spins, jumps and performance. 2 hours of daily off ice classes led by experts in their field will include stretch and relaxation, mental training skills, off ice jump, skipping, fitness, yoga, dance, theatre and nutrition. Skaters may arrange group, semi-private or private lessons with the coach of their choice (all Skate Canada coaches welcome!) or we can arrange lessons for you.

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP — 6-12 yearsIn this creative and exciting Musical Theatre Camp, budding performers will benefit from the exciting diversity of daily workshops provided by theatre professionals from the Canadian Children’s Theatre Co. in singing, dancing and

acting. They will also have the opportunity to put their mark on the performance through the creation of production crafts, the building of confidence and in honing their dramatic skills! Children will perform in a popular children’s musical such as Annie, Wizard of Oz, Seussical the Musical, Shrek or Finding Nemo! Laughter and applause are guaranteed as the performers showcase their talents in a professional-scale production including costumes, props & sets, before adoring fans on the final day of camp.

NATURE CAMP — 6-12 yearsDoes your camper like being outside and looking for bugs? Does your camper like using nature to create crafts? Does your camper like nature walks? This is the perfect camp for them! Campers will get the chance to discover all that nature has to offer.

TENNIS / KIDS CAMP COMBO — 6-12 yearsThis camp combines our Tennis Camp and Kids Camp to create a full day camp. Campers will begin their day at Tennis Camp and will be walked to Kids Camp for the afternoon. Campers using before care or busing will be walked out to Tennis Camp.

TENNIS CAMP — 6-14 yearsOur tennis camp is geared for all playing levels. Kids will be divided up into appropriate age/skill levels. The progressive tennis system will be implemented at all levels to maximize the player’s potential with FUN being our main priority. Children will learn and work on specific fundamentals throughout the week including groundstrokes, serves, and volleys through drills and game-based play. There will be a fun tournament for all participants on the last day of camp for each week. All coaches are certified with Tennis Canada and have a passion to share their knowledge of the game with others. Please bring water daily.

EMERGENCY SERVICES CAMP — 7-9 yearsExplore the Emergency Services atmosphere through various activities including: training techniques, simulations, and hands-on equipment demonstrations with our fire, paramedic and police partners. This is the perfect training ground for the firefighter, police officer and paramedic in you. This camp is run by Town Camp Staff. Various lessons and skills will be taught by our program partners throughout the week.

KIDS GREAT MINDS MINECRAFT© ADVENTURES CAMP — 7-11 yearsCampers will enjoy the week playing and building in Minecraft© while learning basic circuitry principles. Campers will use a team approach to discover the underlying mechanics of the game and learn new logic and problem solving skills, giving them an opportunity to create bigger and better versions of their inventions in the World of Minecraft©.

KIDS GREAT MINDS VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) CHARACTER DESIGN CAMP — 7-11 yearsThis camp is for every child interested in 3D Character Design and Virtual Reality (VR)! Campers will learn how to create industry level, high resolution and textured 3D characters from their favourite movies and videogames. These characters will later be added to their own personalized environments that can be used in animations, video games and seen with VR devices. KGM will bring in the VR goggles so campers can enjoy their amazing work!

LEGO CAMP — 7-12 yearsDoes your camper enjoy creating, learning, sharing and playing with Lego? If so, look no further! We have an exciting week-long program that allows your camper to explore science, technology, engineering, math and writing. Using Lego products and computers to program working models with motors, gears and sensors, campers can put their creative skills to use. To enhance literacy and art, campers will use digital cameras and story creation software to write about the worlds they build. In addition, there will be other forms of Lego-based media and activities for the campers to enjoy.

SHARON TEMPLE: CREATIVE COOKING CAMP — 7-12 yearsCooking is like science but with delicious treats to try at the end of each experiment! Explore traditional and modern techniques and learn about science and math without even knowing it! Campers will learn where their foods come from and explore how time has shifted our food tastes, all while getting to taste delicious treats along the way!

SHARON TEMPLE: HISTORY EXPLORERS CAMP — 7-12 yearsTake a step back in time and explore the past from all around the world! Explore the life of an Egyptian, the battlefield of a Solider, and the house of a Settler. Campers will enjoy learning about the past through hands-on activities, craft making, cooking, and more! It will feel like they have travelled back in time as they learn all about the lives of those that lived long before them.

SHARON TEMPLE: JUNIOR OLYMPIANS CAMP — 7-12 yearsCan’t make it to Tokyo, Japan for the 2020 Summer Olympics? Join us at the Sharon Temple as a Junior Olympian. Use all of your energy and athleticism to take part in relay races, sport matches and mental competitions while learning about the origins of the Olympics. Each day campers will participate in early modern Olympic games with an early settler twist to work towards our closing ceremony.

SHARON TEMPLE: NATURE DETECTIVES CAMP — 7-12 yearsBugs, Plants, Trees, oh my! Does your camper love to play and explore the outdoors? Then this camp is for them! Discovering the 4.5 acres of land that surrounds the Sharon Temple each day will allow campers to connect with nature and have fun all at once. Campers will get to become their own Nature Detectives, learn how nature surrounds and supports us, as well as how to get creative using only our imaginations.

SHARON TEMPLE: SUMMER OF STEAM CAMP — 7-12 yearsDoes your camper love learning and putting their mind to work? Join us as we dive into all things STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) and more! Campers will put their imagination into action to create new inventions and will be treated to hands-on technology sessions presented by the East Gwillimbury Public Library.

SHARON TEMPLE: TREASURE HUNTERS CAMP — 7-12 yearsDoes your camper have a knack for cracking codes, racing the clock or solving puzzles? Do they like adventure and searching for hidden treasures? Sign up for a week full of treasure hunting and mind puzzling fun at the Sharon Temple! Campers will take in treasure hunting by exploring puzzles, mind games, and scavenger hunts throughout the Sharon Temple’s property. It will have them moving their bodies and using their minds all week long!

KIDS GREAT MINDS ADVENTURES IN INTERACTIVE CODING CAMP — 8-12 yearsEver played whack-a-mole with playdough, or the piano with bananas? Now you can! Campers will explore the STEAM world through coding, designing their own games and musical instruments and creating game controllers. Campers will code with Scratch (from MIT), create controllers with Makey Makey Boards and household items, and will learn coding concepts such as loops, if statements and variables, as well as basic electricity principles and more, in a fun, imaginative, and logical way! LITERARY LEAVES — 8-12 yearsIn partnership with the East Gwillimbury Public Library, campers will learn how to create and decorate their own journal and use during this week of outdoor inspired art and storytelling. Each day will provide participants with outdoor time to work on projects like species identification and enviroart, along with time in the afternoon to work on activities like story writing, basic calligraphy and journal writing. If your camper enjoys reading, writing and nature, this is the camp for them!

SOCCER & SPORTS CAMP — 8-12 yearsIn this exciting partnership with the EG Soccer Club, your soccer star will spend the morning learning the FUNdamentals of soccer from coaches with the soccer club. In the afternoon, campers will join Sr. Sports Camp to keep the fun going with more sports and activities.

GOLF CAMP — 8-14 yearsThis exciting camp will offer the camper an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of golf under the direction of a Golf Pro. Mornings will have the campers receiving golf instruction, then break for lunch (provided by Silver Lakes). In the afternoon campers will have a lesson review and continue with an afternoon of golf and golf-related activities.

HOCKEY CAMP — 8-14 yearsCampers will concentrate on the fundamentals of skating, shooting accuracy, as well as when and why to use certain shots. A game will be played at the end of the week matching a player’s age, size and skills level. Full hockey equipment required.

RINGETTE CAMP — 8-14 yearsIn partnership with the Newmarket District Ringette Association, we’re excited to offer this camp that will have the campers focused on learning the fundamentals of skating, shooting accuracy and ring control. Campers will learn about nutrition and hydration and its importance in overall performance. A game will be played at the end of the week matching a player’s age, size and skills level. Full ringette equipment required.

KIDS GREAT MINDS IPAD© VIDEO GAME CREATION CAMP — 9-12 yearsChildren will create many games on their iPad by using single & multiplayer options, A.I.’s, enemies and platformers. Campers will learn the basics of creating games by using coding concepts such as if statements, conditions, variables, sequencing etc. Impress your family and friends by sharing your unique games with them. Students are required to bring their own Apple iPad© to this camp.

ADVENTURE CAMP — 9-13 yearsThis camp is suited for the camper who is looking for adventure! Each week will involve a variety of activities, sports & games like slack lining, capture the flag, Amazing Race/Survivor and more. Campers will enjoy the Rail Yard 2x a week to learn to wakeboard and enjoy the aqua park! PFD’s will be provided and mandatory.

BASKETBALL CAMP WITH YNBA — 9-12 yearsStay healthy and active this summer with YNBA Basketball. This exciting camp is run in partnership with YNBA (York North Basketball Association), a not-for-profit organization, to run skills and drills all in a fun-filled camp atmosphere. Take your game to the next level!

HOCKEY ELITE CAMP — 11-13 yearsThis camp is designed for rep players only, who will run through a program that is geared towards on and off ice development. Campers will receive high end on ice technical skill training accompanied with dryland sessions that will focus on agility, flexibility and strength. In order to enroll in this camp, you must provide an official written note from the players coach and/or organization, proving that they are registered to play at the rep level for the upcoming season. Over the counter registration only, no online registration is available. Full hockey equipment, proper workout clothes and running shoes required.

JR. & SR. FINALE CAMP — 4-6 & 7-12 yearsThis is the last week of fun and excitement! Campers get to play their favourite games from the summer, along with some arts & crafts, and exciting activities. Campers will be able to participate in theme days, as well as special activities such as skating! Campers will be split into age appropriate groups. NOTE: Busing will not be provided for Finale Camp. Before and after care will be available at the EGSC for an additional cost.

LEADER IN TRAINING PROGRAM (L.I.T.) — 13+ yearsThis two week program is an introduction to leadership development. During the first week participants are “in class” learning how to program plan, policies and procedures, communication and teamwork with staff and campers. The second week is a placement into one of our camps where participants will be able to develop their skills further with the direction from the camp staff. It is mandatory that the L.I.T.’s complete their placement as they will be evaluated on their performance.• L.I.T.’s must be 13 years of age by the 1st day of the program.• Upon completion of the program, L.I.T.’s can apply for additional weeks

of volunteering. • L.I.T.’s must bring a packed lunch and drinks daily, as well as dress

appropriately (running shoes are mandatory).• Busing is available at no charge for the camp placement week.

• Before and after the program as well as lunch during the first week is unsupervised.
