Students can also make individual appointments to meet with their guidance counselor about academic, social, or emotional issues. How many credits do I need to move to the next level? Students have four (4) academic years to achieve the state requirements for graduation. Students remain with their cohort, regardless of GPA or credits earned. In order to be on track for graduation, student need to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and earn the necessary credits for graduation. Ideally, a freshman would earn 7 credits in order to be on track as a sophomore and so on… How are GPAs calculated? Grade Point Average, or GPA, is a calculation based on your final grades in courses, the level of the courses, and the credits earned. There are at least four ways that your GPA is calculated: there are two GPA’s on your high school transcript – a State GPA (unweighted) and a District GPA (weighted), and there are separate GPA’s calculated for the Bright Futures as well as a re- calculated GPA for college admission. For more information about Bright Futures visit: https://www.floridashines.org/ District or Ranking GPA (weighted, used for ranking, on transcript) A weighted GPA is computed using marks earned in all courses taken. All grades are used even if a course has been repeated. An additional .5 is awarded for all advanced, honors, AP (Advanced Placement) and IB (International Baccalaureate) courses. This GPA is calculated at the end of each year and is used to determine a student’s class rank. State or Graduation GPA (unweighted, on transcript) Unweighted GPA computed using marks earned in courses taken. If a course has been repeated with a grade of C or higher, only the highest grade is used. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for graduation. This is the GPA that appears on a student’s report card at the end of each semester. It is cumulative using all grades earned to date. What Are School Counselors? A person who provides support services for all students. A resource for all staff members and parents. A liaison with outside community resources. We are NOT: Disciplinarians, Administrators, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, or Social Workers.

When can I take Advanced Placement (AP), or Dual Enrollment Courses (DE) and/or Cambridge Courses? Students who meet the requirements for AP, DE and/or Cambridge courses may begin taking those courses in the 9th grade. Please visit our school’s website for more information: coralspringshigh.browardschools.com. Please click the ‘Academics’ tab.

When is my official high school transcript available, how do I get it and what is on it? Your official high school transcript is available upon request. You may request your official transcript online through Naviance. Please visit the school’s website for more information: coralspringshigh.browardschools.com. Please click the ‘Departments’ tab, and then ‘Guidance’ and finally ‘Transcripts’. Your transcript will have each class taken with the final grade and credit earned. Your cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale (weighted) and class rank (weighted) for these three years are also listed. Why don’t I see my grade change in Pinnacle? Grade changes are not reflected in Pinnacle and also may not appear on your report card. Grade changes are reflected in TERMS and will appear on your official transcript.

Where can I find information about scholarships? You can see the Colleen Warren, the BRACE Advisor, about scholarship opportunities. You can also sign up for her REMIND to receive text messages about scholarship. Her REMIND is set up at the beginning of each school year and shared when available.

How can I find out more about financial aid for college? Please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov for information about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Beware of similar websites that charge a fee for the same information. Remember, the application is FREE! Print materials can also be made available in the guidance office.
