FROM OPERA COLUMBUS

Knowing we all could use a collective laugh, we are kicking off the new year with the funny, whimsical and beloved opera, The Barber of Seville.

This production is full of the unexpected, while showcasing glorious music and young artists full of world-class talent. We are proud to be performing with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, after beginning our award-winning partnership with them one year ago with the world premiere of The Flood. We are also honored to highlight our partnership with Capital University by having their talent and enthusiasm in our chorus, and showcasing our shared Resident Artists throughout the season.

Saturday, March 21 will be a night that celebrates the stories and strengths of African-American heroes from the Civil Rights era in The Journey: Civil Rights. This concert will tell these stories through song, spoken word, and dance, showcasing talent from local artists and organizations. This is a special one-night-only performance at the Lincoln Theatre.

In April, please join us for The Poppea Project, our new co-production adventure with the Pizzuti Collection of the CMOA. OC was awarded the Columbus Performing Arts Prize of The Columbus Foundation and an OPERA America Innovation Grant because of this production’s unique and inclusive nature. Grab your drink and a mask and enjoy this memorable experience.

We are so proud to close our 2019-2020 season in June with Opera Columbus Presents Nina West at the Southern Theatre. We want to provide one of the most treasured members of our community with a beautiful backdrop and all the toys of the theatre!

OC is so grateful to have such rich and enthusiastic artistic partners, like BalletMet, ProMusica, Columbus Symphony, Fashion Week Columbus, The Pizzuti Collection of the CMOA, Carpe Diem String Quartet, Capital University Opera and Musical Theater, The Juilliard School, and CAPA. And that is just this season alone!

We are also delighted and astonished by the generous community, corporate, and individual support that has lifted Opera Columbus to a level we can all be proud of. And I must brag: we have the most incredible board of trustees you could ever want to have!

Please don’t take us too seriously tonight! Have a drink, laugh, and forget your worries for the next couple of hours!
