Meditation: ‘…be your name…’ - Exodus 34:4-7, page 93 a. What key themes strike you from the passage.
b. What prayers of thanksgiving does this prompt?
c. What prayers of confession does this prompt?
d. What prayer requests does this prompt?
Prayer Focus: The NHS is currently in distress both nationally and more especially locally (for
example over the last 2-3 years 5 GP practices have closed, and it is virtually
impossible to recruit new Drs to replace those who leave/retire). So, pray for:
Wise decisions from the politicians and Department of Health- both with
regard to budgetary allocation and to regulatory frameworks
Wise use of the service by patients- so that those with the most pressing
and urgent needs are prioritised and there is capacity to see them (seeing
those with ‘ needs’ rather than those with’ wants’)
Those who work in the third sector organisations supporting the vulnerable
and helping to meet their social needs
Local health care organisations- the CCG (commissioning services- that they
make wise decisions in the interest of the local community), the local
hospital EKHUFT (with budgetary, regulatory and workforce challenges – as
well as discussions about service configuration), the local hospice (again
meeting budgetary and regulatory challenges- at the same time as planning
service delivery changes to meet the needs of the local people)
A beleaguered and dwindling workforce- helping them to remain
compassionate and caring with their patients, supporting those who are
stressed at work, and helping them to care for struggling colleagues.
The NHS workforce as a whole is under pressure- with many Drs and nurses
set to retire in the medium term – combined with difficulties in training and
recruiting replacements. Patience for Junior Doctors in particular (but
several other cohorts in the workforce as contracts are reviewed).
Wise decisions are taken with patients best interests at heart at every level I
think is the most important point
thanks for all that we are able to do
End: There will be space to briefly share any specific needs that you
want to pray for.
