Chapter 3 – SOWEGA SAM’ERS

September 2019 Campout, Fall Good Sams Rally, Perry, Georgia, September 10-15, 2019

The Sowega Samers turned out for the Fall Good Sams Rally in Perry, Georgia. We had 14 member rigs and 2

guest rigs representing Chapter 3. The theme for this rally was “Game Show Mania”. Our table decorations

were designed after the game show “America Says”. Anybody could come by and see if they could answer with

the most popular answers to each question. Some were definitely more difficult than others. This was a much

smaller rally than ones in the past but enjoyed by all that attended. We were entertained by The McMillan’s,

“Price is Right” game show and The Bushmen. Around the rally at different times you could have also played

“Cash Cart” and “Let’s Make a Deal”. We had several of our men participate in the game “Deal of No Deal”.

Our men, woohoo, were the models of the “Krispy Kreme boxes”. It was a lot of fun. We had 2 teams playing

Bean Bag Baseball, one team advanced to the second round but were eliminated by a Florida team. We played

Samgo and Hand ‘n Foot. We had a few members win a cake in the Cake Walk. We also had winners at Samgo,

several winners of door prizes and several winners of Chinese Auction items. Once again, Rhonda Law, sang

the “National Anthem” for opening ceremonies. We did have church on Sunday morning, with Bro. Lamar

bringing the message, Rhonda and Nell with special music “Fill My Cup, Lord” and our choir singing the

beautiful song “How Long Has It Been”. Thanks to all of you who participated in the various functions of the

rally, hospitality, table decorating and choir. All the veteran’s items we have been collecting each month were

given to the Carl Vinson VAMC in Dublin. We also presented a financial contribution of $1,500.00 to the

Director of the VA. The VA representative was very appreciative. As Sharon Graham keeps saying, you have

to take part, meet new people, renew acquaintances to have a great rally. It takes everyone to have a successful

rally and we did.

OCTOBER 2019 Campout

The October campout was held at Laura S. Walker State Park in Waycross, GA. We had 12 member rigs and

one guest rig present. Our hosts were Roger and Terry Varnadore. Our visiting rig was Mercer and Sharon

Graham.

On Tuesday evening our hosts treated us to a wonderful meal. We had ham, squash casserole, green beans,

potato salad, rolls, pumpkin cake and coconut cake. A big thank you for a wonderful meal to Terry, Roger and

family. This was our Veterans meal and it brought in $104. It was hot, but the clubhouse was great! It was big

and open, great view of the lake and cool! Games were started, Play Nine, Hand ‘n Foot and a very difficult

puzzle. On Wednesday, we started the morning with a competitive game of beanbag baseball. It was on!

Women vs. Men. Men won 12-7 after the women gave them a run for the money with a 5 run start. It was a lot

of fun! Wednesday evening, we had a potluck meal. Ooh, it was good. How is it that no one brings the same

thing! Everything was good and we had plenty of it. Got some new recipe ideas. Then we had a devotion, led

by Terry Varnadore. One of the scriptures used was Philippians 4:13. Nell and Otis brought in the piano so

then it was a time of singing. We even had a request to be the singers at the Fall 2020 rally, we all kind of

laughed!! We then played Card Bingo. It was a lot of fun too. On Thursday, our lunch was at Jerry J’s original

location in Waycross. Lunch was enjoyed by all. Veteran item of the month was men’s ties. We collected 32

ties to be given to the Dublin VA. In the afternoon, it was back to the clubhouse for a few more games, then it

was time to pack up and hand it off to the next hosts. See you at SugarMill in Ochlocknee!

Wednesday evening, we had a modified business meeting due to the necessary early departure of Charles and

Rhonda on Thursday. Meeting was called to order by Charles Law, president, at 7:45 p.m. on October 2, 2019.

Jack Sangster led in an opening prayer. Rhonda Law, Secretary/Treasurer read the minutes from August 6,

2019 and gave the September financial report. A motion was received from Lamar Little to accept minutes and

financial report as presented. A second was received from Jim Little. Motion carried. A few items of

information were given: 1) November – SugarMill in Ochlocknee, hosting will be Sisters, Taylor’s and Hurst’s;

2) December – Eagles Roost, Lake Park, GA. Hosting will be Bell’s and Ramsey’s. Need to make reservations

for all of these if you haven’t already done so; 3) Dues of $20.00 per rig are due by November 30 for the 2020

camping year; 4) 2020 Campout List now available. Please sign up to host for a month next year. Charles

Taylor asked if anyone had a problem traveling to Murphy, NC for a campout in May. Taylors and Sisters are

considering hosting at Valley River RV Resort in Murphy. No one opposed.

Unfinished Business:

Jim Little was called upon to present nominations committee report. Jim made a motion that we accept the

nominating committees slate of officers for the 2020 Camping Year: Jack Sangster, president; Fred Rossman,

vice president; Donna Sangster, secretary/treasurer; Ann Rossman, assistant secretary/treasurer; Otis Smith,

Legislative Representative. Second was received from Pat Taylor. Floor was opened for any other nominations.

No other nominations received. Motion carried, 2 opposed. No new business. Birthdays and Anniversaries

were given, prayer requests taken. Lamar Little closed in prayer and meeting was adjourned at 8:00 after

receiving a motion and second. Submitted by Rhonda Law, Secretary/Treasurer.

NOVEMBER 2019 Campout

The November campout was held at SugarMill RV Park in Ochlocknee, GA. We had 12 member rigs and one

guest rig present. Our hosts were Trudy Bayne, Betty Ritchie and C.R. and Pat Taylor. Our visiting rig was

Jerry and Susan Sangster. Day Visitors were Charles and Rhonda Law, Darrell and Mary Scarbrough; Jack and

Donna Sangster; Archie and Glenda Hatcher; David and Ann Webb; J.D. and Judy Clark; Danny Jordan, Roy

Wohlforth, and Lynn Hamner. Guests were Jenny Bell and Terry Taylor.

The week started with puzzles and games. We had a veteran’s meal on Tuesday evening consisting of hot dogs

with chili, cheese, jalapenos and onions. Hope everybody ate some so no one at the card tables could be

offended! Wednesday morning started out with an exciting game of Bean Bag Baseball. It was Men vs. Women!

It was on! Inning by inning breakdown, 1st inning, women 1, men 0; 2nd inning, women 1, men 0; 3rd inning,

women 7, men 0; 4th inning, women 3, men 4 (we let them get these, they also had 4 outs); 5th inning women, 0,

men 0; 6th inning, women 1, men 1; 7th inning, women, 3, men 0; Total – Women 14, men 5. Woohoo!!! We

broke for lunch and returned at 2 for Card Bingo. We had a great time with a lot of different folks winning,

including a visitor. On Wednesday evening, we had a soup and cornbread supper. Three different kinds of

soup; Potato, Vegetable Beef and Bean. It was very good and we had plenty! After soup, we had a time of

devotion with Wendell Brown leading. A time of singing with Nell at the keyboard was also enjoyed. Our

visitor Susan Sangster assisted with the singing. Thanks Susan. We finished two puzzles. Then on Thursday

morning, several packed up and were ready to go when we returned from lunch. We had a great lunch at Rock

Bottom Seafood in Thomasville, GA. We had 39 people for lunch. Rhonda’s mom and Donna’s mom joined

us. After lunch we played some more cards and enjoyed the afternoon together. We then reheated the soup and

enjoyed it again. It was then time to pack it all up, pass it on to the next hosts. We’ll see you at Eagle’s Roost

in Lake Park in December. Our hosts will be the Bells.

III. NEW BUSINESS

Director Dave L. Whitmer speaks on following topics:

❖ The veterans and the volunteers are the life line of the VA. The veteran volunteers and regular volunteer

really set the tone for our veterans when they come in to receive their care here at the VA.

❖ The reason I attend these meetings is because I love to see the collaboration of all the organization being

that it sheds light back on the VA. We then get to see what we are doing good and the things that we can

improve on.

❖ I have been here on campus since May 12, 2019 coming up on three months. In Tampa I’ve had the

opportunity to oversee voluntary services in West Palm Beach, FL and Tampa, Fl as the Associate

Director.

❖ Again, we have had a chance to hire Keith as our new Chief of voluntary services other key positions we

have announced a new whole health program.

❖ Introductory to Whole Health:

➢ Whole health is a way for us to deliver health care, understanding that an ounce of prevention

can be a pound of a cure.

➢ Meeting with Veteran to understand what matters in their life so that the veteran is at the center

and that they are in control.

➢ It’s also done so that the Veteran is at the center and that the veteran remains healthy; that’s done

by diet, spirituality, nutrition and exercise.

➢ Dr. Matthew Giar has been appointed as the Clinical Director of Whole Health Program.

➢ The team will include whole health coaches which will be at least one at each CBOC and 4-5

here in Dublin.

➢ The coaches will be the center of the Whole Health Program, which will consist of sitting down

with the veteran and providing them with the tools so that they can be at the center of their own

healthcare.

➢ Again, it’s not replacing clinical care it just augments what we have already have in place and

helps the veterans to be the center.

❖ Mental Health Service Line Leader;

➢ We are recruiting for a new Mental Health Service Line Leader Dr. Fackler, will be serving as

the interim until the position is filled.

➢ In addition, a Deputy Mental Health Service Line Leader will be added.

➢ I felt like with 150 staff total we needed to have assistance to manage that program.

❖ After two years Carl Vinson has finally chosen a permanent chief of staff however, we are unable to

announce the name of the selectee.

➢ Other key hires are Chief of Pulmonary, Chief Cardiology and other key hires throughout the

VA.

❖ Dr. Connie Hampton will be transitioning out next week going to Atlanta as the Nurse Executive.

➢ We will be posting her position Nurse Executive in the next coming weeks.

❖ Director Dave 90-day goals:

➢ One of the things to achieve to in the first 90 days were to visit all the sites of care and have

town halls. We have done that; the focus was to tell about the Mission Act, so the veterans may

have information on that subject.

➢ A new tool that we are using is a new database called Pub Delivery.

➢ The first email was an introductory and the second email was the urgent care services under the

Mission Act.

• This was a great issue in the town halls that the veterans had so we tried to address the

issues of the veterans and increase the communication of the VA.

• We are broadcasting all the townhall’s on Facebook live., so that we can extend our

voice. I also have townhall’s for the employees so that we can see what we are doing

well and the areas that we can improve on.

Page 7: 2019G S EORGIA ,O &NOV EDITION Of the GA-GOOD ...Jack Sangster led in an opening prayer. Rhonda Law, Secretary/Treasurer read the minutes from August 6, 2019 and gave the September

7 Nov 2019_Sep, Oct, Nov (Final v1)

(2/1/20)

❖ Perry CBOC is growing and is undersized, so we’re going to remedy that by negotiating with Robins

AFB on placing Primary Care Teams within the base. This will give us time to develop a long-term plan

for that area.

IV. OLD BUSINESS

V. UPCOMING EVENTS:

❖ 7th annual mental health summit the purpose is to strength and sustain our partnership with our community

stakeholders.

❖ Last year we had 175 veterans there and we are anticipating a better turn out this year.

❖ Focus will be:

➢ Suicide prevention

➢ Providing whole health

❖ September 20th we will have our MIA/POW program at 2:00 in the main auditorium.

❖ Fall Festival will be held October 19th on the front lawn.

❖ Veterans Day Parade will be held November 9th this will be our 3rd Annual Parade.

❖ Veterans Day Program will be held November 11th at 11:00 a.m. here in the auditorium.

VI. VAVS COMMITTEE REPORT:

Chapter 10 – 10K Gold Travelin’ Sams

September 2019

We all had a wonderful time at the Rally in September. We won at Trivia and won the table

decorating contest. Enjoyed all the games especially the ones that were theme related. The

entertainment was great as usual, but by far the favorite evening was the Veterans’ recognition.

It was very touching and well done. How wonderful that we have so many who have served. We

had a pretty good turnout for the President’s Breakfast but think it might need to be moved to

a different day, since there are so many favorite activities going on, on Saturday morning. All

in all, a great weekend.

Our Veterans President’s Breakfast Winning Table Décor

October 2019

In October, we went to Creekwood Farms in Waynesville, North Carolina. It was the weekend

of their Apple Festival and they close the main street on Saturday, and it is filled with all kinds

of vendors. It was really fun, but the weather was not cooperative, and it began raining around

noon. Waynesville is a wonderful place with so many things to see and do. Maggie Valley is just

up the street, Cataloochee is a short ride away, Asheville is 40 miles and the Cherokee Casino is

not far either. It is just a fun place to be and the town of Waynesville is filled with unique shops

and boutiques. In honor of the season, after our potluck we did some bobbing for apples.

November 2019

Our outing in November was to Riverbend in Hiawassee, GA. This is always a favorite for our

group as it is nearby and there is so much spectacular scenery in the area. The lake is beautiful,

Clayton and Dillard are not far, and Helen is just down the road. We had a great time with lunch

at the Marina, dinner at a great restaurant and exploring shops and flea markets. For our

potluck, we had a Thanksgiving dinner which was delicious and plentiful. After dinner, we had a

turkey shoot and a great time was had by all (although we proved to be not great shots).

Chapter 11 – Yosemite Sams October Campout 2019

We were a small group in October, but we had a good time and all kinds of weather. There were just 6 of us,

but small groups are a lot of fun sometimes. We went had bar-b-q one night at Slopes BBQ. It was just as good

as last time we were there. We also had pizza at the campground one night. Pizza, salad and cookies were a

real treat. Saturday night we cooked hamburgers at the campground. Lots of good food and fellowship. A

couple of the guys played golf twice and did really good considering how hard the courses were. We had some

visitors too. Carol came down Friday and spent the day with us. Then Saturday, Pat and Harry stopped by on

their way home.

We also got a very special surprise. Walter Burks came up and brought his pontoon boat. Only problem was it

was 69 degrees and winds up to 45 mph. He decided not to put the boat in the water, as it was just too cold and

windy. We sure did enjoy his visit and appreciate his bringing the boat, even if we didn’t get to go on a boat

ride, it was a treat to see Walter.

November Campout 2019

Golf was the pass time for several of us on three days. The course is a nice level course and just fun to play, no

really hard holes. The Telephone Museum was a good place to spend some time; and there was more there, than

just telephones. We found a couple of good breakfast places and we all enjoyed breakfast together on several

days. We had pizza on Thursday night. They had good hot pizza, pasta, a good salad bar and desert. No one

went home hungry. Friday night, we had homemade chili, sandwiches, home-made pies and cookies. Saturday

night, we went to The Station in downtown Americus. The food was great, and the service was four-star. The

Brickyard was the perfect place to end our camping season.

It's time to send in your dues for 2020 or you can bring them to the Christmas Party. The Christmas Party is at

Jimmy and Rachel Hucks home on Dec. 7 and starts at 2:00.

December Christmas Party 2019

Again, Jimmy and Rachel did a great job of decorating and providing a great place for a Christmas Party. Thanks

so much for hosting again this year. I guess we didn't make too much mess, because they have agreed to have

it again next year. We had so much food, we had to make places to put it all. There were two tables full and

another table of deserts. There were homemade pies, cakes and candy. Many thanks to those that took the time

to make homemade food and deserts. Me, I just went to the grocery store and hid the grocery store bag. We

collected $380 for St. Jude Children's Hospital. We will add another $120 to that and send them a check for

$500.

It's time to start looking at next year's camping schedule. Of course, March and September will be the Rallies

in Perry. For our April campout, we are considering leaving the Spring Rally and going to Brunswick to Coastal

Georgia RV Resort. Jimmy and Rachel are checking with the campground to see if we can get reservations. If

you would be interested in going with us, please call Rachel to get added to the list.

Looking forward to a great camping year. Our schedule will be published soon. If another Chapter would like

to camp with us, please contact Cheryl and she'll get you info.

Chapter 13 – Lucky 13 Sams September 2019

Georgia 2019 Fall RV Rally, Sep 12-15, (Early Bird 10th & 11th), Perry GA, “TV Game Show Media”

We had seven (7) active member rigs (Holloway’s, Coker’s, Boyd’s, White’s, Shirling’s, Wilkey’s, and

Chiappetta’s) represented at the Georgia 2019 Fall RV Rally. We enjoyed many of the activities such as Samgo,

the “Meet and Greet”, as well as the Media Rally Games, like “Deal or No Deal”. We enjoyed the Vendor

booths as well. Our table was tastefully decorated. We had chapter members volunteer to drive the tram and

work with Hospitality. We enjoyed The McMillian’s, and some of us even danced a number or two. We even

enjoyed the company of a First Timers at the table. I few of us took home some door prizes and a few items

from the Chinese Auction. We donated items to the Vets and blankets to Project Lioness. We had three winners

in the Cake Walk this rally; Toni won a Lemon Pound Cake; Susan won an Italian Cream Cake; and Linda won

a Chocolate Cake. They were all very good. Our Chapter has several Vets in our that were honored, as well as

one who served in two branches of service. The Lucky 13 Sams purchased 62 hats from the Georgia State Store

as Christmas gifts and cards to be presented to the Vets in December.

Sep 15-20, the Holloway’s, Coker’s, Chiappetta’s

went to Coastal RV in Brunswick. Ate at Barbara

Jeans and at Jinright’s Seafood. Enjoyed two (2)

shared meals. What a great time had by all.

November campout was very small with three (3) rigs (Holloway’s, Chiappetta’s and Boyd’s), however,

everyone had a great time. John and Harvey played golf, Toni and Vivian played in a separate golf cart. Both

golf carts had dead batteries! All played Joker. Mon, Nov 18th all went to the Telephone Museum in Leslie.

Ed cooked hamburgers at the clubhouse. Tue, Nov 19th Harvey, Toni and Vivian went to Jimmy Carter’s School

Museum and homeplace. Ate lunch with Nell Airial. For one meal, we ate at Roman Oven Pizza. Wed, Nov

20th we all packed up and headed home. Great campout, even with small numbers.

Chapter 32 – Columbus Round Tuits Sams

September 2019

Chapter 32 had two rigs (LaMee and Eckert) at the Georgia Good Sam Fall Rally in Perry, GA, September 11-

15, 2019. Our chapter donated three door prizes and volunteered handing out donuts at the Hospitality area

early Friday morning. Kim and Beverly sewed and contributed 22 blankets donated to Project Lioness. Bob

LaMee accepted his certificate of military service appreciation during the ceremony honoring all Veterans.

Other Veterans in our chapter will receive their certificates later. The Eckerts and LaMees won at Samgo and

Kim won a door prize. Beverly attended the Presidents’ Breakfast and Meeting. We are making plans to attend

the Georgia Good Sam Spring Rally in March 2020 where the theme will be “Favorite Fairytale.”

September 15-22, 2019, we enjoyed the Alabama Good Sam Rally at Johnny’s Lakeside RV Resort, Foley,

Alabama. Three rigs (Bruner, Ethridge, LaMee) attended. Illness kept the Ekert’s from attending. There were

table games played, jigsaw puzzles solved, food shared, and friendships made and renewed. There were door

prizes for everyone and Samgo played. We look forward to the April 2020 Spring Alabama GS Rally in Auburn.

October 2019

October 16-20 the chapter camped at Uchee Creek Recreation Center, Fort Mitchell, AL. We enjoyed an

evening at the Oktoberfest Celebration where there was authentic German music, food and drink vendors and a

large children’s activities area. We saw several Good Sam members camping and celebrating in the area and

enjoyed renewing our friendships. One afternoon, chapter members watched US Army Rangers parachute into

a nearby drop zone. Led by Kim, we enjoyed a hot dog supper at the Bruner’s site. Larry cooked and Kim and

Beverly set up tables with all the hot dog fixings, as well as salads and desserts. We welcomed former members,

Wyndel and Nancy Pullen for the evening. Wyndel brought firewood and built a great fire that was enjoyed by

all.

November 2019

November 13-17, we camped at Uchee Creek Recreation Center Campground, Fort Mitchell, AL. This is a Fort

Benning campground with full hook-ups and peaceful camp sites. James and Anna Marie Warren were wagon

masters and assisted non-military members with reservations.

Chapter 33 – Yargo Sams

September 2019

In September, you would have found Yargo at the Fall Rally in Perry, GA. We only had 2 rigs present. Maybe

in the Spring we will have more to attend. Entertainment was good and despite not having many, we had a great

time. It was good to fellowship with other Good Sam Members. Christine Logan hit the jackpot on several

things. She won bingo and the 50/50 pot of gold. Way to Go, Christine!

October 2019

In October, you would have found Yargo at Holiday Travel Park in Chattanooga, TN. There were 4 rigs present

and one came up from their home during the days. It was really cold, and we even had a fire some of the time

during the day. We went out to eat at a local Mexican restaurant on Friday night. Hosts, Jim and Kay Starkey,

furnished pulled pork on Saturday night. Everyone else brought sides. Several went to flea market across the

way. Good time was had by all.

November 2019

In November, you would have found Yargo at River Bend Campground in Hiawassee, GA. There were 7 rigs

present and one visitor, Michael Stanley. Hopefully he will decide to join our chapter. Also, another member

who does not have a camper came and stayed with one of the other members. It was very cold, even too cold

to sit out by fire at night. However, we had a fire in the daytime. We went out to eat at Daniel's Steak House

on Friday night and had potluck on Saturday. Hosts, Leon and Eva Hall, furnished ham with everyone else

bringing sides.

Chapter 44 – Good Sam Drifters Sams

September 2019 Campout

WOW, what can you say about having a good time. We had seven (7) rigs, one (1) first timer rig and two (2)

visitors rigs, wonderful fellowship time. Music, games, food, door prizes, which several of us won, even our

first timers.

Drifters 44 work the Pot of Gold 50/50. Raised $494.00 for the Recing Crew here in N. Augusta. This is a

group that helps disadvantaged persons. Here's our President Merle Jenkins and his wife Susan working the

50/50. We giveaway the 50% each night during the Rally...That gives you 3 chances to win.

Here we are presenting the check to The Recing Crew.

Come to the Spring Rally and try your luck. We'll be there. Happy Camping!!

October 2019 Campout

Group picture from our Oct camping weekend at Bobby Brown Park in Elberton, GA. We had 3 great nights of

eating, playing games and just plain fellowship.

November 2019 Campout

We had our Nov Thanksgiving Camping at AH Stephens State Park in Crawfordville, GA. Had a wonderful

time with playing games, eating and just chatting away. We're a group that loves to eat.

We meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Cracker Barrel just off I-20 and Bel-Air Road. We eat at 5 p.m.

and meeting starts at 6 p.m. Come on over, check us out and go camping with us.
