Through prayer & perseverance, we can improve our Noble Order!

SOLEMN MASS OF THANKSGIVING & DAILY MASSES

Sunday, August 4th was the opening day of many activities for convention attendees. First-time convention attendees participated in a workshop. Later that afternoon, the Solemn Opening Convention Mass of Thanksgiving took place. His Eminence Peter Cardinal Turkson along with Most Revs. Martin D. Holley, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Memphis, and Shelton J. Fabre, Bishop of Houma-Thibodaux co-celebrated the mass with a message of unification, prayer and service. All four units of our Noble Order—3rd degree and 4th degree, along with our Jr. Division leaders—turned out. Clavers and non-Clavers heard the message in the Sidney Marcus Auditorium of the Georgia World Conference Center. It was a live broadcast via EWTN.

Matthew 5:41: And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him…

SUPREME KNIGHT’S ANNUAL REPORT

The opening message from the Supreme Knight was around his continued vision of: “Building an Organization of First Choice for all Catholics!” The message emphasized “Don’t ignore in victory what you would focus on in defeat!” His message expounded upon the Five Pillars of Social Justice which we have greatly embraced. The movement towards social justice will assist in growing our Noble Order:

a) From 2017 to 2019, we lost 95 fewer senior members than the previous year (819 to724).

b) The National Strategic Committee worked diligently to seek input from our members.c) We must address our membership age through strategies that include collegiate units

like Xavier University Unit #403 in New Orleans, LA.d) Maintenance of a firm financial foundation was evident of the independent auditors’

report of “0” findings and only one recommendation.e) We diversified our Economic Development Committee into subgroups that focus on

real estate, income generation, partnership relations and fundraising.f) We are proudly holding strong to an $84,000 end of year 2018 net profit.

The 104th National Convention brought about many events, unlike that of other national conventions. Our annual meeting is a time to reflect and celebrate the many accomplishments of our past year and to make plans for the coming one. This year our membership made the effort to express their opinions. Know that leadership has heard you and intend to act accordingly. We’ve survived storms, earthquakes, and a last minute change to our convention hotel venue to make it to this day. Well, done, Clavers! The work we have done to improve our Noble Order is a testament to your hard work and dedication. Extreme thankfulness to our Executive Director Grant Jones and the National Office team, National Chaplain, Board of Directors, AARP and our host councils and courts who enabled us to be here today. For the year 2018, there were no significant material weaknesses found by the external auditors, and Alabama Department of Insurance has only one new recommendation, and the examination found that we have complied with all previous recommendations. Knight Ricky Sassau & Lady Donna Williams National Treasurers

Our Noble Order is financially sound!

NATIONAL TREASURER’S REPORT

The fiscal year 2018 yielded a revenue stream increase of $139,014 from the previous year. This can be attributed to the $1 increase in dues starting in 2017. The dues increase was vital in offsetting the operational costs of the organization. In prior years, the excess operational costs were covered using the investment income. The dollar Increase showed positive growth in our reinvested into our portfolio following the investment policy. In addition to offsetting operational costs, the increase in dues allowed us to increase the organization’s marketing goals, travel costs and expansion endeavors. In 2018, the organization saw an increase of $22,043 in death benefits. Other key components are:

o Advertising/Marketing ($18,560)o Expansion/Travel ($11,482 expansion efforts for Deputies and Junior Division)o Other Insurances ($48,046) were outliers that impacted expenditure increaseso Marketing & Expansion/Travel has a $10,000 budget increase December 2017o “Other Insurances” were policies provided by the open Enrollment period for additional

insurance products offered by Mutual of Omaha.

Despite the increase in expenditures, the Noble Order ended 2018 with a net profit of $83,990, which is a slight increase from the previous year’s profit of $80,068. The organization continues to grow and maintains a portfolio that is conservative and meets the requirements of our investment policy.

Health Fair Project Chairperson Joi Parks

Gospel Extravaganza & White Linen Dance Highlights

On Monday, August 5, 2019, a health fair was sponsored in the Sidney Marcus auditorium from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It was chaired by Lady Joi Parks of Court #313. We had 10 vendors, listed below, several of which were staffed by members of the Order. Services offered included blood sugar diagnostics, blood pressure readings, pharmacist consultations, and member education on disease states and healthy lifestyle via dietary modifications. From the data gathered from the vendors, it’s estimated that we served approximately 400 members of the Order. Members I spoke with indicated that they really enjoyed the fair and received useful information. There were several members who were made aware of potential health issues that they were unaware of, so this ministry was really a blessing for several members in our Noble Order! • AARP• Leukemia and Lymphoma Association• Ask the Pharmacist• USDA• GA Diabetes Association

• American Cancer Society• WPGW• Healthy Kids• Morehouse School of Medicine• Grady Graduate Nurses

On Friday Evening August 2nd, Archbishop James P. Lyke Chapter 43, hosted the Ladies of Grace Gospel Extravaganza. The Emcee for the evening was Keisha Lancelin, Public Affairs Director of Atlanta CW69 Television. The theme for the evening was “Rise Up and Sing”. The night began with our very own Ladies of Grace Voices of Inspiration Choir led by Gracious Lady Mabel Denise Julian Taylor. The program was titled “A History of Hope” and included four Acts depicting different times in history. Other acts included:

• Dawn Axam Dance Theatre-Atlanta, GA• Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church Choir-Decatur, GA• Praise in Motion of St. Anthony of Padua-Atlanta, CA• Amazing Grace Liturgical Dancers of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church-Atlanta, GA• Our Lady of Lourdes Choir-Atlanta, CA• The Sister Thea Bowman Visionary Choir – Christ Our Hope Catholic Church-Lithonia, GA• Supreme General Assembly-Supreme Board• Sir Knight Cleveland Horton, Saxophonist-Windsor, CT• Jasmine Williams, Liturgical Dancer of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church-Atlanta, GA• Randy Simmons & Rapture Ministries-Atlanta, GA

Clavers at Work in Atlanta!

Social Justice Committee Forum—Ending Human Trafficking! Co-Chairs Knight Derek Howell & Lady Deborah Scott; Subcommittee on Humman Trafficking Co-Chairs: Knight Joseph Brooks & Lady Janice Henry

Hearing our guest panelists provide intimate details of their trafficking experiences, life on the street and viewing amazing real-life videos at the Social Justice Public Forum was a bone-chilling experience. National Treasurer Knight Ricky Sassau and National Lay Board Member Lady Esohe Asemote gathered two experts—Pastor Donna Lynne Hubbard and Kat Doyle—along with a vocal oration by members of Selma the Musical Cast, who brought the house down with musical selections to remind us that we must do our best to end human trafficking!
