PRESIDENTS REPORT
This season Terrigal Surf Life Saving Season celebrated the 100th season since our establishment and the season certainly
turned out to be memorable in many ways. I want to commend our members and Board for their forbearance, perseverance,
adaptability and resilience as we have negotiated a strange season end with COVID-19. We are still working hard to wrap
up season events, and some of our centenary celebrations will also be rescheduled to 2021!
I am really proud of our lifesaving efforts this season, we made the difficult decision to change up some patrols over the
last winter, but this has definitely increased our patrolling strength across our patrols, and resulted in strong attendance by
our lifesavers. This season we also introduced a rostered patrol at The Entrance, to assist their patrolling requirements,
and this was well received by our members and a great experience for them to practice their skills in a new environment.
We will continue that in coming seasons.
Even though the season was quite short, we still managed to clock up over 8000 patrolling hours, 13 rescues and over 500
preventative actions, and 136 first aids. Our Education team once again stood tall, educating and assessing over 800
awards (including nippers) for the season, which is a mammoth task that occurs each and every season. We are also
working cooperatively with our local clubs to share calendars and provide more opportunities for our members to complete
awards.
Our Competition team had a great start to the 2019-20 season, with outstanding performances at the Australian Pool
Rescue Titles, finishing 2nd in the Master’s event and 4th in the Overall Pointscore. Huge thanks go to Rachelle King for her
professionalism and dedication to developing our athletes in this arena. We had some great performances in Board/ Ski
and Beach at local and state carnivals, from both our junior and senior clubs, and are seeing some great young talent
emerging. Our IRB team also took home some bling from the Australian IRB Champs, with our U23 female teams especially
doing well, taking out a silver and bronze, they have been working towards this for several years under the tireless coaching
of Bruce Moy and Roger Stimson. I thank all of our coaches across all disciplines for their efforts in developing our athletes.
Our Nipper program, under the Directorship of Rich Green (CC Branch Volunteer of the Year), continues to deliver an
outstanding program for our youngest members, with a great mix of education, skills development and confidence building.
We are seeing great retention from our Nippers into the senior club lifesaving ranks, and these young members have great
skills and knowledge.
I want to thank our Board for their constant commitment to our club, so much work goes on behind the scenes by these
dedicated members: John Deacon (Lifesaving), Marc Gunasinghe (Sponsorship/Fundraising), Tim Pittolo (Education), Joel
Green (Competition), Rich Green (Juniors), Beris Meldrum (Finance), Wendy Walsh (Administration) and Julie Redfern
(Member Services). They work tirelessly to manage all operational and strategic activities for the club, which is a huge
responsibility.
We also welcomed back Natalie Whineray to our club this season in the dual role of Administration and Functions Manager.
We are now seeing our Functions Centre go from strength to strength with Nat’s experienced hands at the helm (well at
least until COVID!).
I would like to congratulate all of our nominees for the CC Branch Awards and congratulate Branch on their innovative
delivery of the Awards this year. Richard Green was a deserving winner of the Volunteer of the Year, as was Cohen Crook
as the Rookie of the Year and the outstanding Paul Lemmon as Master’s Athlete of the Year. Thanks also to Branch for
the support you offer to all clubs, especially the information provided throughout COVID.
Our club is well placed to begin our next 100 years of operation, and even though we didn’t get the opportunity to finish all
of our celebrations, we will! We honour all of the men and women who have dedicated some time to the development of
our club, we have learnt many lessons along the way and are still discovering our past, but all of that knowledge is carried
forward by our club members now and into the future.
I want to thank all the members who I have worked with and supported me over the last 17 years on the Board, I wish the
club all the best in the future.

ADMINISTRATION REPORT
What a year. I call it the Year that just kept on giving. Through our diligence on the beach, we have successfully patrolled
without any loss of life between the flags. I congratulate all our patrolling members who have been led by our Director of
Lifesaving, John Deacon. A huge shout out also goes to those who support out patrolling members, families, friends,
partners, husbands and wives. No one can do anything without support. Thank you.
With regards to Covid and our Surf Carnivals, we managed the get through Junior Branch and Master’s State, Open State
and Age State. Aussies were cancelled, along with the off-season shenanigans/racing of IRB’s. There will be some reports
and awardees missing from this report, but they will be included in next years. Our Ocean Swim was also cancelled, but
we hope to reschedule later in the year. Awards of Excellence, Club, Branch, State and Australia have and will be taking
on a new avenue to bring these presentations to the Public. Times have been difficult for everyone through this pandemic
and we don’t know when things will get back to normal. So, for now we just take it a day at a time and do what we can.
Our ANZAC Day Dawn Service was also a victim of Covid-19 and unfortunately, our Service, along with all others, was
cancelled.
I would like to say “Thank You” to Marc Gunasinghe who is retiring from the Board this year Marc has filled the role of
Director of Sponsorship for the past 2 years. Thank you for all your work, dedication and knowledge you have brought to
the role. Good to know you will still be around.
What will next season bring? That is the question on everyone’s lips. All we can do is follow the directions given to us by
our governing bodies, Surf Australia, Surf NSW, Central Coast Branch and the Health Department and do the best we can
for our members.
Be kind … stay safe … and swim between the flags

Clubs: Narrabeen SLSC Nipper.
Toowoon Bay SLSC 2003-2009
Terrigal SLSC 2009– 2020
Mike had a passion for the surfing and surf lifesaving over most of his life. Mike started off as a nipper at Narrabeen SLSC. When he moved to the Central Coast, he took up boat sweeping from 2005 when with Toowoon Bay SLSC sweeping a masters women’s crew.
Mike moved to Terrigal SLSC in 2009 and over the years swept an u23 men’s crew, u23 women’s crew (which included his two daughters), reserve men’s crew and the last 2 years a masters women’s crew.
Mike was struck with cancer in 2013 and battled this until the end. Surfboat sweeping kept Mike going those last few years when it was a real struggle to keep moving. The last season of sweeping, Mike would strap up his hands and feet and doze up with pain killers to get through the day's carnival. Terrigal SLSC six crews rowed a 60 km marathon from Rose Bay, Sydney to Terrigal in 2014 to raise money for Mike and his family, and Mike swept for part of this journey.
Mikes greatest success was in 2016 with his master's women’s crew when they took out Gold at both State (Swansea) and Aussies (Sunshine Coast). Mike was awarded Terrigal “Boatie of the Year” at its 2017 awards night. Mike loved to coach and develop rowers whenever he could. He was a passionate club man and enjoyed time with his wife (Sonya) and four daughters, (Meghann, Taylor, Zoe, & Bailey) much of which was spent at nippers or surfboat carnivals.

DIRECTOR OF MEMBER SERVICES REPORT 2019.2020
As we close out this 2019-20 season our Terrigal Surf Lifesaving Club had a challenging year with celebrating 100 years of patrolling Terrigal Beach. In March 2020, the World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 international crisis a pandemic. This has a significant impact on all aspects of club life at Terrigal Surf Lifesaving Club. This includes cessation of patrols and competition and eventually complete closure of the club to all members. Our annual Ocean Swim, 100 Year
Ball along with community events such as the ANZAC Day Dawn Service and 5 lands walk were also cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings and social distancing.
The 2019-20 season commenced with Terrigal hosting the SLS Central Coast Annual Raising of the Flags. This was a wonderful spectacle and was attended by all local clubs, members, politicians, council members and the general public. We also had a new logo designed to celebrate our 100 years of patrolling Terrigal Beach. At the Central Coast Australia Day Awards (January 2020), our very own life Member Mark Powers was named Volunteer of the Year for his services to Surf Lifesaving and Callum Sutton was named Youth of the Year.
This season saw updates to our website and social media pages. The club website was updated with the assistance of Aiden Reid and is now more user-friendly and includes updated content and contacts along with current COVID-19 and member protection information. Our social media channels were also updated and logos aligned with our main platforms being Facebook (‘Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club’ and ‘Terrigal Nippers’) and Instagram (@terrigalslsc). There are also numerous other private groups for training and other areas of the club (e.g., training and pool rescue groups). These pages are closely monitoring and are an efficient communication source that supplements regular communication with members via Blues News.
In our Nippers area there were 4 great leaders elected as role models this year. The Captains for 2019-20 were and Tia Graham and Jett Green, Vice Captains were Bronte Cummins and Cohen Crook. All 4 leaders represented themselves, their families and the club with great enthusiasm and pride throughout the season. Congratulations to all our junior leaders.
This year our Terrigal nominees for SLSCC Junior Lifesaver of the Year were Bronte Cummins and Cohen Crook. They both represented our club proudly. Cohen was also the Terrigal nominee for the SLS Central Coast 13/14 Rookie of the year and came out of the selection process as the overall winner. This was a great achievement – well done Cohen.
This year a structured process was written up and implemented to select our award winners and nominees for the SLS Branch Awards. This process included a club-wide online survey for all members to make nominations. The nominees were collated and detail added based on patrols, competition outcomes, volunteer-contributions and other club assistance/leadership. Two sub-committees were formed to select the eventual winners. The competition awards sub-committee comprised Julie Redfern (Director of Member Services), Joel Green (Director of Competition), Richard Green (JAC) and Paul Broadbent (Life Member). The lifesaving and club awards sub-committee comprised Julie Redfern (Director of Member Services), Mardi Love (President), Mark Power (Life Member), David Mansfield (Life Member). Winners were kept confidential and announced via Instagram (unable to have usual presentation due to COVID-19 restrictions. or modified club presentation held in September 2020. A list of winners is provided below.

Two important safety areas for our club now and in the future are being COVID-Safe and ensuring strong safeguarding of
children. In terms of being COVID-Safe, we have COVID-safe Plan, a COVID-19 Safety Co-ordinator and many Members
have completed the SLSA COVID-19 awareness course. We fully closed our club during March-June 2020 in line with
NSW Health and SLS NSW regulations. Since re-opening we have implemented a COVID-safe plan in relation to COVID-
19 signage, hygiene, social distancing, sign- procedures (etc) and we have changed training and equipment usage
procedures in-line with NSW regulations. Our gym rand shower areas remain closed at the present time (August 2020).
These arrangements are monitored daily and will be revised rapidly to ensure our club aligns with NSW Health and NSW
SLS regulations as we strive to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our members and community. In addition, this season,
Terrigal SLSC continued to institute strong Safeguarding Children protocols. We also have 8 trained Member Protection
Information Officers within the club.
Congratulations to the following club members for achieving SLSA recognition awards.
• 5 Year National Patrol Service Award - Chris Wicks
• 10 Year National Patrol Service Award - Andrew Davison, Andrew Reid
• 15 Year National Patrol Service Award - Toni Jones
• National Medal - Mardi Love & Toni Jones As we count down the days to the 2020-21 season, it is new territory for all members of our club and community. There
will no doubt be changes to patrols and competition and Terrigal will have an ongoing commitment to COVID-safe
regulations and recommendations. The Board of Terrigal Surf Club looks forward to seeing every member at the various
activities for the upcoming season.

EDUCATION REPORT 2019.2020
Once again, the education team hit the ground running this season with the changes to the VET sector still raw and trainers
and assessors still upgrading their qualifications it’s been a busy year yet again.
The education team has pulled together to put a total of 110 new awards on the beach as well as assisting our neighbouring

Once again, the team have been busy maintaining and building their own skills with Tim Pittolo, David Golightly, Cathy
Cole and Paul Quick all undertaking the upgrade courses to maintain their skills as trainers and assessors.
This year we have continued to record the time that all members of the education team spend either delivering training or
upgrading their own qualification and the while the numbers are a little bit down on last season this can be attributed to a
fewer number of people been involved in the delivery of courses or that the majority of people completing their upgrade
during the 2018 season.
The season ended on a weird note with the outbreak of Covid-19 brining an early end to both the education program and
the patrolling season. the 2020 season does bring many new challenges with the introduction of a new Bronze Medallion
course which for the first time in its history bring the challenge of there been no printed manual for the course with the
material been delivered through an online application and updated as required and as the Covid-19 outbreak changes the
face of the world no one is exactly sure how education within SLS will look for the coming season and into the future.
I wish to thank the Education team for their help and support during the season as the work we do tends to go unnoticed
and underappreciated by some within the Club, but at the end of the day, there is no lifesaving or Competition without
Education.

DIRECTOR OF COMPETITION REPORT 2019.2020 The 2019 – 2020 surf season started with such high expectations, I was new to the role with big shoes to fill following Greg
Elfick, and prior to that, Clayton Schofield. Thank you, men, for your effort across many years.
Well I will acknowledge it was a season we will all never forget, for some of the IRB teams it will be for their great success
and their NSW and Australian Medals, whilst for the boats and board and ski teams it will be for the abrupt end to the
season due to Covid 19.
I would imagine every competition surf report Australia wide, to reflect the same way. The devastation that all competitors
would have felt after having their season taken from them due to Covid 19.
Looking at the glass half full, we were very lucky, NSW were able to carry out their State championships, it was only our
local Central Coast branch carnival that was postponed due to poor surf conditions and later cancelled and the Australian
titles that we missed.
It was inspirational to see all our competitors from Nippers to Master’s across all disciplines throw themselves into their
training schedules and doing anything they could to keep fit and stay strong during very trying times.
Although there are still some testing times ahead, restrictions have been reduced and we are trying to get some normality
and routine back into our schedules.
Thank you to Roger Stimson and Alix Smith for your success across the season and your continued support at carnivals.
Thank you to all our coaches for your continued effort, strength and drive to help our competitors become better competitors
and more importantly, better people.
Finally, thank you to our parents and supporters that help us all do what we love doing. Your assistance with officiating,
transport, beach set up, getting us to training and being there for us is ‘gold’, without you all, we cannot do what we do.
If the 2019 / 20 season and off season has taught us anything, its strength, resilience and to adapt to our environment.
Let’s take from this season what we have learnt and build for a better season ahead, here’s to looking forward.

TSLSC AWARD WINNERS NOMINATED FOR SLSCC AWARDS 2019.2020
This year we have had to delay our annual club presentations (junior and senior) and SLSCC are doing their awards online
only. For this reason, we have undertaken a process to select the winners of some of our annual awards so their
nominations can be forwarded to Branch. We sought nominations then shortlisted and online subcommittees met to select
the winners. In all categories it was hard to choose a winner. The winners were announced via @terrigalslsc and Surfguard.
Congratulations to all nominees and winners. Tune in online to SLSCC Awards on 6th June at 6pm to see our nominees
acknowledged.

BOAT CAPTAINS REPORT 19.20
Terrigal SLSC started a new phase in rebuilding our competitive surfboat section this year. With some off season promoting and chasing and pleading for new members to come and try, we ended up with an u19 female, reserve women’s and Master’s men crew. Only two out of the twelve rowers had previous experience in surf boats at Terrigal, with half doing their bronze medallion pre-season. So, with so many newbies we knuckled down to some hectic training from July and plenty of learning. All the crews competed in the Streets boat series and even travelled to Scott’s Head for a two-day carnival. At the end of a shorten season (COVID) the u19 females placed third overall in the Streets series with the Reserve women sixth and Master’s men eight overall. Unfortunately, from there on we were unable to compete at State due to the sweep being unavailable due to medical reasons and then the Branch, last rounds of Streets and Aussies were cancelled. Congratulations to Gemma Cooper-Remington for being awarded our Boat Rower of the year. Gemma was very dedicated to not only training and carnivals, but also Patrolling at Terrigal. Also, a big thank you to our officials, Lyn Waters, Kim Petley and Dennis Gee, that came and officiated for the Streets rounds to help Terrigal fulfill their commitments. We look forward to continuing next season and invite anyone to come along and give surfboat rowing a try. Paul Quick Boat Captain

JUNIOR ACTIVITIES 2019.2020
The 2019-2020 Nippers season was another very successful year for the Terrigal Club.
This season we returned to our traditional location for Sunday nippers with a lot more beach available to use than the
previous season.
Once again, the expertise of our coaches; effort and enthusiasm of our Age Managers and the support of parents led to a
great season with all nippers having fun, gaining confidence and improving their skills.
Active encouragement and participation of all nippers on Sunday’s has assisted Terrigal in growing into a strong and
competitive club both at Branch and State levels.
This season Terrigal placed first in two of the local carnivals and second at the Branch Championships.
We had fantastic numbers of children attending all carnivals, hopefully this will continue over next season and we will be
able to achieve our goal of winning the Branch Championships.
The outstanding attendance we had at all carnival presentations shows our great club spirit. Nippers and parents should
be congratulated on their attitude towards competing and the sportsmanship and respect shown to their teammates and
other competitors.
It is sometimes easy to forget this is a volunteer organisation, fortunately at Terrigal we are lucky to have the commitment
of so many parents, grandparents, friends and extended family of both nippers and Terrigal Surf Club in general. To all
those people, thank you for your wonderful support and assistance through the season.
I would like to thank some dedicated people who helped and gave up a lot of their time this season: Paul Cummins, Wes
Pettiford, Nicole Baker, Julie Redfern, Mandy Eyles, Samone Green, Paul Broadbent, Trevor and Sandra Husk.
Our qualified Officials – Stuart Bennett, Beris Meldrum, Wendy Walsh, Chris Hall and Craig Pollington.
I would also like to thank our amazing sponsors Coastal Providores, Vital First Aid Training Services, Chemist Outlet.
Our Age Managers and the JAC - without these dedicated groups of people, we simply do not have nippers. Thank you
for your commitment both on and off the beach during nippers and after hours. I realise these roles are often thankless.
Your commitment and dedication never goes unnoticed and is always appreciated.
Thank you to our awesome coaching staff for the 2019-2020 season, namely Danielle Rippon, David Rippon, Ryan Quick,
Emmy Pettiford, Chloe Hoy, Lisa Metcalf, Paul Quick, Mitchell Clayton, Richard Green, Paul Broadbent and Nathan Smith.
Once again, our annual Colour Run was a huge success! Raising $5000 for the Club. Thanks to Mandy Eyles for
organising this event.
Congratulations must go to Cohen Crook – being awarded the Central Coast Branch Rookie of the Year.
Special thanks must go to our Club Captains and Vice Captains for the 2019-2020 season.

LIFE MEMBERS REPORT The financial report has disclosed that the Life Members Fund enjoys a credit balance of $74,515.25 (Seventy four
thousand, five hundred and fifteen dollars and 26 cents). These funds are held at National Australia Bank A,/c #53878-
5225 ($938.15) and Term Deposit #12-236-0215 ($73,577.11). This Term Deposit is due to mature on 26th February, 2021.
The deposit and interest due to $1,079.46 will be rolled over for a further term.
The Life Members Fund has seen an increase of $1,948.39 over the past year. The majority of the increase was interest
of $1,448.39 and a donation by John Burgess, the son of life member John Burgess (Snr) of $500.00.
Donations to the surf club by the fund have now exceeded $30,940 since the Fund was established in 1983. The vision for
the establishment of the Fund was to create a "Future Fund" for the enhancement of the Club's growth in the ensuing
years. The Fund is not there for the utilization by any committee or committees. The Fund is fully run by the Life Members
and is conducted on a perpetual basis.
Below is a short summary of the history of the Life Members Fund –
• Foundation of the Life Members Fund during 1983. Foundation members were Life Member Mark Power and Life
Member Peter Wyllie.
• Fund established for future members to receive the benefit of the past and present members of the Club.
• Fund to be conducted on a perpetual basis and continue to remain this way.
• Core assets to be retained to ensure the future of the Trust.
• An amount of up to 80% of the interest earned to be donated to the Club and members and their families in the
need of financial assistance at the discretion of the trustees on an annual basis. Thus, a minimum amount of the
remaining 20% of interest income will be retained to ensure future growth of the Fund.
• The Fund will not intentionally impede on the Club's fundraising efforts and all funds raised in the name of the
Fund to be retained by the Fund.
• Life Member Jack Tennent made a donation from his estate in 1989/1990 season of the sum of $1,000.
• First objective target of the fund was $10,000 and this was achieved in the 1992/1993 season.
• Funds in excess of $3O,94O have been donated to the Club since the Fund was established in 1983. This
amount has been made up of direct cash donations and the value of the jackets which are presented on the
Awards of Excellence Night. Funds have also been allocated to a patrolling member to assist with medical costs.
• The vision for this Fund is that in the future the Fund will be able to provide one or more
scholarships/sponsorships for the members of the Club on an annual basis.
• These awards can take the form of educational funding or direct sporting cost funding. This, however, will not
occur until the Fund achieves sufficient capital to make this possible.
The Trustees have received several enquiries with regard to legacies to the Fund. A Trust Deed is in the process of being
prepared to meet the wishes of these donors.
Through the Fund, all donations are making a serious investment towards the training and resourcing of our volunteer
lifesavers. Legacy gifts will ensure that the next generation of up and coming lifesavers will be prepared to take on critical
lifesaving tasks in the future.
The Life Members are happy to answer any enquiries on the principal function and direction of the Fund at any time.
We will also be grateful for any meaningful input on future fundraising opportunities or direct contribution to the Fund.
It is with sadness that the passing of the following occurred during the year. Michael (Mick) Anthony Peat 6/1/2020 - a

The present Trustees of the Life Members Fund are Mark Power, David Mansfield and Ron Stone.
The Life Members will hold a meeting and conduct an election for the 2020-2021season. lt is expected that the current
trustees, Life Members Mark Power, David Mansfield and Ron Stone, will be elected for a further term. These Life Members
names will be forwarded for ratification at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting.

AUDITORS' REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF TERRIGAL SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB INC. Opinion
We have audited the financial report of Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc. which comprises the statement of financial position, the income and expenditure statement, and statement of cash flows as at 30 April 2020, and notes to the financial statements, including a summary of significant accounting policies, and the Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc. declaration.
In our opinion the financial report of Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc. has been prepared in accordance with Division 60 of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act (“ACNC Act”) 2012, and the Associations Incorporations Act NSW including:
(a) giving a true and fair view of the registered entity’s financial position as at 30 April 2020 and of its financial performance for the year ended 30 April 2017; and
(b) complying with Australian Accounting Standards and Division 60 of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Regulation 2013.
Basis for opinion
We conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditor’s Responsibilities for then Audit of the Financial Report section of our report. We are independent of the registered entity in accordance with the ethical requirements of the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board’s APES 110 Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (the Code) that are relevant to our audit of the financial report in Australia. We have also fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with the Code.
We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide abasis for our opinion.
Emphasis of Matter - Basis of Accounting
We draw attention to Note 1 to the financial report, which describes the basis of accounting. The financial report has been prepared for the purpose of fulfilling the Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc. financial reporting responsibilities under the ACNC Act and Associations Incorporations Act NSW. As a result, the financial report may not be suitable for another purpose. Our opinion is not modified in respect of this matter.
Responsibility of the Committee for the Financial Report The committee are responsible for the preparation of the financial report that gives a true and fair view and have
determined that the basis of preparation described in Note 1 to the financial report is appropriate to meet the
requirements of the ACNC Act and the Associations Incorporations Act NSW. The committee’s responsibility also
includes such internal control as the committee determine is necessary to enable the preparation of a financial report
that gives a true and fair view and is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.
In preparing the financial report, committee is responsible for assessing Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc.’s ability to
continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters relating to going concern and using the going concern
basis of accounting unless the committee either intend to liquidate Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc.or to cease
operations, or have no realistic alternative but to do so.
The committee is responsible for overseeing the Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc. ‘s financial reporting process.
Auditor’s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Report
Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial report as a whole is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor’s report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of the financial report.
As part of an audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards, we exercise professional judgement and maintain professional scepticism throughout the audit. We also:
• Identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether due to fraud or error, design and perform audit procedures responsive to those risks, and obtain audit evidence that is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The risk of not detecting a material misstatement resulting
from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error, as fraud may involve collusion, forgery, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the override of internal control.
• Obtain an understanding of internal control relevant to the audit in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the registered entity’s internal control.
• Evaluate the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates and related disclosures made by committee.
• Conclude on the appropriateness of the committees’ use of the going concern basis of accounting and, based on the audit evidence obtained, whether a material uncertainty exists related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the association’s ability to continue as a going concern. If we conclude that a material uncertainty exists, we are required to draw attention in our auditor’s report to the related disclosures in the financial report or, if such disclosures are inadequate, to modify our opinion. Our conclusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the date of our auditor’s report. However, future events or conditions may cause the association to cease to continue as a going concern.
• Evaluate the overall presentation, structure and content of the financial report, including the disclosures, and whether the financial report represents the underlying transactions and events in a manner that achieves fair presentation.
• Obtain sufficient appropriate evidence regarding the financial information of the Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club Inc. to express an opinion on the financial report. We remain solely responsible for our audit opinion.
We communicate with the committee regarding, among other matters, the planned scope and timing of the audit and
significant audit findings, including any significant deficiencies in internal control that we identify during our audit.

NOTE 1 - ACCOUNTING POLICIES This financial report is a special purpose financial report prepared in order to satisfy the financial reporting requirements of Division 60 the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 and the Associations Incorporation Act (NSW). The committee has determined that the association is not a reporting entity. The financial report has been prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historic costs and does not take into account changing money values, or except where specifically stated, current valuations of non-current assets. The following significant accounting policies, which are consistent with the previous period unless otherwise stated, have been adopted in the preparation of this financial report. (a) Plant & Equipment Depreciation Plant and equipment are recorded at cost and are depreciated on a straight line basis over their estimated useful lives. The depreciation rates used for each class of assets are: Building improvements: 4% to 20% Surf equipment: 33% Function room plant & fittings 20% Office equipment: 20% Plant and equipment which has an estimated useful life of one year or less have been expensed at purchase and are shown as gear purchases in the Club’s profit and loss account. (b) GST Units Under the provisions of GST legislation relating to non-profit bodies, the Club has established independent accounting units for its separate functions with differing GST treatments. The accounts of each of these independent units have been amalgamated in the preparation of the Club's accounts. (c) Income Tax The Club is exempt from income tax and accordingly no liability is recorded. (d) Inventories Inventories are measured at the lower of cost or net realisable value. (e) Leases The Club leases the land on which the Club premises are erected from a trust pursuant to the Crown Lands Act. A license has been provided to another entity to operate a café on part of those premises (refer note 18). As the Club is a not for profit entity the value of the lease of the premises has not been estimated. License fees from the sub-lease are taken up as income on an accruals basis. (f) Revenue Revenue is recognised as follows: • Members income, donations and sponsorship revenue is recognised on receipt and recording in the books of the Surf Club.
• Income from the sale of merchandise and product from the canteen is recognised when the merchandise or product from the canteen is supplied to the customer. • Income from hire of the club house (hall hire) is recognised at the time the club house is provided to the customer.
