Pablo Center operates in support of a mission that is focused on developing and augmenting endless opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the performing, literary, and visual arts.

Inside our doors, guests can experience two internationally -recognizable performance spaces; the 1,204-seat RCU Theatre and the innovative 400-seat Jamf Theatre. These spaces allow us to showcase the endless possibilities of the arts in a facility capable of providing transformative experiences and creative opportunities. Our ability to transform is enhanced by our support spaces: three rehearsal, dance and community rooms; three visual arts galleries; a sound and lighting lab; set, costume, media, and exhibit design studios; a state-of-the-art recording studio; and workforce/vocational training spaces. While our building makes us unique, it is our community - patrons, members, business partners, constituent groups, and local artists - who make us remarkable.

It is with gratitude, thanks, and appreciation that we announce to you our second season. Our first season was meant to begin to show you, the audience, what was possible; a delicately-curated way to demonstrate operationally, financially, and technically how our building would function, as well as be sustainable long-term. Thanks to your support, we succeeded. We welcomed 80,000 unique guests into this one-of-a-kind facility and had the opportunity to share its unparalleled ability to showcase all the fine and visual arts with you in over 238 performances. We also learned from our 1,100+ members and you, our guests. We listened, we gained insight, and we challenged everyone to grow with us. The heart of our creative economy continues to grow and so does Pablo Center. I am excited for the possibilities contained within this incredible second season, our new partnerships, members, donors, and for you, our guests, to experience Pablo Center.

Last year’s inaugural season put Pablo Center at the Confluence on the map. With Season Two we are re-drawing the map, presenting a line-up that is full of surprises – headline acts alongside small treasures, local heroes, and new revelations. You will still meet old friends, those beloved shows and artists who have become a tradition. We are still a proud home for our partner arts groups. You are still welcome in a ballgown or in jeans, in pearls or in flannel. But Season Two is about what could be, what is possible. It is possible to bring to Eau Claire the shows you previously had to travel hours to see. It is possible to open our doors wider, to be more accessible, more inclusive, more daring. It is possible to become not just a national, but an international arts voice. It is possible to celebrate those who willed Pablo Center into being, while still making room for new friends, new audiences, and new partners. It is possible to host tradition and change at the same table, maybe even in the same gallery. To the tens of thousands of you who made Season One a success: thank you. Join Pablo in celebrating Season Two and see the RCU Theatre transformed as never before!

At the center of every circus rests a 42ft ring full of thrills, laughs and excitement. 42FT – A Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels, is the latest invention from the creative minds of Cirque Mechanics. The company dares us to leap into the circus ring and experience the timelessness of this evolving art form. The show’s unique mechanical interpretation of the traditional, and its story full of the lore of the historic one-ring circus, creates a welcoming place, like a big top, where we can be amazed. The action in 42FT is full of theatricality and a modern sensibility, showcasing a galloping mechanical metal horse and a rotating tent frame for strongmen, acrobats, and aerialists. Cirque Mechanics, inspired by modern circus, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American industrial ingenuity. The show, embedded in realism, displays a raw quality rarely found in modern circus. Cirque Mechanics’ signature style is wrapped in acrobatics, mechanical marvels, and a bit of clowning around. Todd Green takes the whole family on a whirlwind tour of musical instruments from around the world as he demonstrates 25-string, flute, and percussion instruments and unusual rhythms and scales used in other cultures. His engaging performance relates the instruments both culturally and historically, as well as to our familiar Western instruments, pointing out both differences and common threads. He layers instruments as he performs, adding an element of high-tech “magic” and turning him into a one-man-band of World Music.

Praised for its deeply musical interpretations and emotional performances, the ensemble Me La Amargates Tú is one of the leading Sephardic music ensembles in the world. Sephardic Jewish communities have preserved the Ladino language for centuries as well as their songs, keeping alive the memory of a culture that is now spread in many countries throughout the world. The ensemble combines instruments of the Medieval and Renaissance periods, together with an assortment of folk instruments.

Sandeep Das & Mike Block are a dynamic, cross-genre duo that originally met as members of Yo-Yo Ma’s Grammy Award-winning Silkroad Ensemble. Featuring a combination of the tabla (a pair of Indian drums used in Hindustani classical music) and cello, this energetic duo has been performing together since 2013, sharing their music throughout America and India via tours and residencies, including on the stage of Carnegie Hall. This November they bring their unexpected partnership to Pablo for a truly unique concert event.

Cuentos paints a vivid picture of the people and rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking world with colorful tales from the Caribbean, South America, and the Bronx. Explosive, beautiful, traditional, and fiercely contemporary - Iny Asian Dance Theater was established in 2000 by Iny Mai Yang Xiong as the first Hmong Dance studio ever developed in the United States. Their vision is to preserve and share with the world the beauty of cultural Asian folk dances and discover new and modern Asian dances. IADT is currently located in Maplewood, Minnesota and has seven dance instructors and over 180 dancers. They specialize in a wide range of Asian dances: Hmong, Miao, Thai, Chinese, Dai, acrobatic contemporary Chinese, Mongolian, and Bollywood. An audio-visual tour de force, Home Within is the newest project from Syrian composer and clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, and Syrian-Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad. In this ground-breaking work, Mourad’s charcoal and watercolor drawings are created live, and projected behind and in response to Azmeh’s haunting score. Art and music combine to reflect on the Syrian revolution and its aftermath, documenting specific moments in Syria’s recent history…and the emotion that travels with all the displaced.

Chippewa Valley Jazz OrchestraSince 2009, the Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra’s goal has been to raise public awareness of the richness and complexity of the one true American musical art form, jazz, with musicians in the Chippewa Valley including full-time performers, music educators, students, and other community members with a passion for the art of the big band. This collection of talent makes it possible for the CVJO to tackle a wide variety of musical styles and eras, and our concerts reflect both the traditions that are the underpinnings of jazz as well as the works of more modern composers.

Highlights from our 2018-19 programming include:

ARTMobile: Every Saturday, this FREE, family-friendly program makes creating both fun and accessible.

Apprenticeship Day: Collaborating with the Chippewa Valley Technical College to connect high school students with regional employers.

Workforce Solutions Summit: Hosted in partnership with the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce, this event provides area employers with solutions they can implement to solve immediate and long-term workforce challenges.

“Artrepreneur” series: Teaching business skills to local artists. Offered in conjunction with UW-Eau Claire’s Continuing Education program.

Junior Achievement in a Day: Exposing area middle school students to a variety of professional opportunities within the creative economy through a variety of hands-on, career-orientated experiences.

School Matinées, Master Classes, Backstage Talks, Post-Performance Q&A’s

We look forward to many of these programs expanding in the coming year. Additionally, several new initiatives are in development including the launching of a robotics club and computer science club, both of which will be open to area high schoolers. These programs create new opportunities to pursue interests, further develop workforce-ready skills, and build important connections throughout the business community.

The Jamf Theatre is the largest black box theatre in the Midwest and one of the five largest of its kind in the nation. This flexible theatre can hold approximately 400 patrons. This stunning space can serve as a music hall, theatre space, conference room, meeting areas, and has the ability to transform from stadium theatre seating to standing room, ensuring no concert, theatrical, or special event experience is the same.

The RCU Theatre is a Broadway-style theatre that can hold 1,204 seated patrons. Through state-of-the-art sound and lighting, and internationally-recognized acoustics, the RCU Theatre opens up amazing, intimate opportunities for your show experiences and cherished annual performances. Grand yet intimate with no seat more than 100 feet from the stage, the RCU Theatre is a world-class venue for dance, music, concerts, opera, and theatre.
