ST. THOMAS BECKET WOMEN’S GUILD Please join us for the October Women’s Guild mee"ng on November 18th at 7 pm in the parish hall.

The business mee"ng with door prize and a split the pot raffle will be followed by refreshments and a special musical treat. Guest are always welcome.

For our musical enjoyment, we will be entertained by the singing of the Harmonaries.

This all women’s choir includes several Guild members. The cheerful music is a great way to relax and refresh as we get ready for the holidays.

Magda Wilhelm is the St. Thomas Becket’s winner of the Golden Rose Award!

This award is given by Vicariate 1 Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women to only one young woman from each parish who shows leadership, spirituality, is high school student, and a prac"cing member of the parish. Magda is a Senior at John Hersey High School in Arlington Hts. She is one of the lead Altar Servers in our parish and is always eager to help with anything we ask of her. She helps every year during parish picnic and is the first one to volunteer at various service opportuni"es in our church. She regularly par"cipates in Sunday Masses. Magda is a model of Chris"an virtues for younger boys and girls, always smiling and willing to help. She is an example of what it means to be an outstanding young Catholic woman. Magda Wilhelm will represent the St. Thomas Becket parish at the 2019 Golden Rose Breakfast on December 7th at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling and will receive the Golden Rose award from Bishop Alberto Rojas. Congratula6ons Magda!

Nagroda Złotej Róży jest przyznawana przez Archidiecezjalną Radę Katolickich Kobiet z Wikariatu 1 tylko dla jednej młodej kandydatki z każdej parafii, która jest liderem, jest uduchowiona i jest uczennicą szkoły średniej oraz praktykującym członkiem parafii. Magda Wilhelm jest uczennicą czwartej klasy w John Hersey High School w Arlington Hts, jest jednym z głównych ministrantów w naszej parafii i zawsze chętnie pomaga we wszystkim. THANKSGIVING 2019 Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th Mass at 9am.

The Parish Office will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and on Friday, November 29.

Święto Dziękczynienia, czwartek, 28-go listopada, Msza Św. w jęz. angielskim o godz. 9am. Biuro parafialne będzie nieczynne w czwartek i w piątek tego tygodnia.

Thanksgiving is a "me for being grateful for the gi's God has given us and for showing our

thanks by helping to ensure that those who have less than we do can also enjoy a warm Thanksgiving dinner. We will collect food for the poor during our Thanksgiving Day Mass.

All collected dona"ons will be shared with the local branch of Catholic Chari"es. We hope that everyone who a#ends will come with a bag of food. If you cannot spare a bag this year, at

least come with a few cans or boxes of non-perishable food. If you cannot a#end the Thanksgiving Day Mass, you can bring the food to the rectory any"me during the Thanksgiving

week. We will see that the collected food gets to those who are most in need. A monetary collec"on will also be taken on November 28th for the Open Door Ministry working in our parish.

Święto Dziękczynienia to czas wdzięczności za wszystkie dary jakimi nas Bóg obdarzył i okazania tej wdzięczności przez upewnienie się, że ci, którzy posiadają mniej, bedą mogli w tym dniu cieszyś się ciepłym

obiadem. W dniu Dziękczynienia, 28-go listopada, będziemy mieć zbiórkę żywności dla ubogich. Wszystkie zebrane donacje będą oddane dla Catholic Chari*es (Katolicka Harytatywna Organizacja). Mamy nadzieję, że każdy kto będzie uczestniczył w tej Mszy Św. przyniesie ze sobą reklamówkę żywności, lub chociażby jeden karton lub puszkę. Jeżeli ktoś nie może uczestniczyć we Mszy Św. w tym dniu, żywność można dostarczyć do biura parafialnego w każdym dniu tego tygodnia. Zapewniamy, że wszystkie te dary dotrą do tych, którzy

najbardziej ich potrzebują. W Dzień Dziękczynienia będzie również zebrana kolekta, która zostanie przeznaczona na potrzeby Komisji Otwartych Drzwi pracującej w naszej parafii. Bóg Zapłać.

SICK AND HOMEBOUND St. Thomas Becket parish con"nues the ministry of caring for our sick and homebound brothers and sisters. We support them by prayer, visi"ng them with Holy Communion (home or hospital), and we have prayer blankets. These are specifically blessed for a sick or homebound person to bring them comfort, and just

the awareness that we as a parish care for them and keep them in our prayers. If you know of any member of St. Thomas Becket who is sick or homebound and would like a Minister of Care to bring them the Eucharist, or a prayer blanket, please call the parish office. REFLECTION ON SUNDAY’S GOSPEL

As we approach the end of the liturgical year the biblical readings of recent weeks invite us to reflect on our a+tudes toward the final end of things including our own lives. Today’s reading begins with a scene describing the disciples marveling over the magnificence and splendor of the temple. The Temple of Jerusalem was the center of Jewish worship, ‘the soul of the Jewish faith’. It was a place where God had been dwelling. At the "me of Jesus the structure, which had been undergoing a complete renova"on for a few last decades, was immense, towering majes"cally over the city. It was

one of the wonders of the world. Jesus, in response to the disciples’ admira"on over the magnificence of the temple, delivers a prophecy concerning the future fate of the temple. He says the "me is coming that this seemingly indestruc"ble structure will lie in ruins. Thirty-some years later, the prophecy will be fulfilled when, in response to the emergence of the Jewish revolt, the Romans will besiege Jerusalem and u#erly destroy the city and the temple. The remainder of the reading of today’s Gospel passage is of an apocalyp"c nature and composed of highly symbolic language that is difficult to interpret unambiguously. Jesus is talking here about experiencing persecu"on by Chris"ans of all "mes, about the end of the world as well as about the inevitable end of life of each and every one of us. Let us go, then, back to the topic of the temple destruc"on for upon deeper considera"on of this subject we can draw a valuable lesson for ourselves. Yes, it is certainly true that the external elements of the temple building were so beau"ful and impressive so as to arouse a common admira"on. Jesus, however, when looking at the temple looks deeper, way beyond the gli#er and gold. He is not impressed by the external worldly appearance of the temple no ma#er how impressive it looks. Let us remember that Jesus, will be rejected, betrayed, and condemned to death ‘by this’ awesome, awestruck genera"ng temple. The ques"on for us is this: how can we prevent ourselves from being a temple that is only externally beau"ful? Do we need to look into our hearts to check whether we are authen"c followers of Jesus or if our faith is not much more than lip service? If so, then let us pray and ask for the grace to trust and follow Jesus in our everyday lives. Have a blessed Sunday! Krystyna Maciorowski

ZAMYŚLENIE NAD NIEDZIELNĄ EWANGELIĄ W miarę jak zbliżamy się do końca liturgicznego roku, niedzielne czytania biblijne ostatnich tygodni zapraszają nas do refleksji dotyczącej przemijania – przemijania rzeczy, instytucji, a także naszego własnego życia. Dzisiejsze czytanie rozpoczyna się sceną opisującą zachwyt uczniów nad wspaniałością i splendorem świątyni. Świątynia jerozolimska była centrum kultu żydowskiego, niejako ‘duszą żydowskiej wiary’. To tutaj właśnie przebywał Bóg. W czasach Jezusa budowla świątyni, gruntownie przebudowywana i odnawiana przez kilka ostatnich dziesięcioleci, była imponująco olbrzymia i masywna, majestatycznie górując nad miastem. Była jednym z cudów ówczesnego świata. Zachwycanie się przez uczniów zewnętrznym pięknem budowli sprowokowało Jezusa do wygłoszenia przepowiedni dotyczącej przyszłego losu świątyni. Ten pozornie niezniszczalny obiekt ich zachwytu wkrótce legnie w gruzach. Trzydzieści kilka lat później przepowiednia spełni się, gdy w odpowiedzi na powstanie żydowskie Rzymianie dokonają oblężenia Jeruzalem zakończonego całkowitym zniszczeniem miasta i świątyni. Pozostała część czytania z dzisiejszego fragmentu Ewangelii posiada apokaliptyczny charakter i zawiera wysoce symboliczny język często trudny lub wręcz niemożliwy do jednoznacznego zinterpretowania. Jezus mówi tu o doświadczaniu prześladowań przez chrześcijan wszystkich czasów, o końcu świata, a także o nieuchronnym zakończeniu własnego życia każdego z nas. Wróćmy więc do tematu zniszczenia świątyni, bo po głębszym rozważeniu tego tematu możemy wyciągnąć dla siebie pewną lekcję. Tak, to prawda, że zewnętrzne elementy, struktura i w ogóle cała budowla świątyni jerozolimskiej była tak piękna, okazała i imponująca, że wzbudzała powszechny zachwyt. Jezus jednak, patrząc na świątynię, wnika w jej znaczenie daleko głębiej, niż tylko blask i złoto. Nie robi na nim wrażenia zewnętrzny wygląd świątyni, niezależnie od tego, jak imponująco ona wygląda. Pamiętajmy, że Jezus został ‘przez tą’ przepiękną świątynię odrzucony, zdradzony i w końcu wydany na śmierć. W świetle tego powstaje więc dla nas takie oto pytanie: jak możemy uchronić się od bycia świątynią tylko piękną na zewnątrz? Może należałoby sprawdzić głębię naszych serc, aby zobaczyć czy jesteśmy autentycznymi wyznawcami Jezusa czy też nasza wiary to tylko puste frazesy? W tym tygodniu módlmy się prosząc o łaskę zaufania i wierności Jezusowi w każdym dniu naszego życia. Z pozdrowieniem—Krystyna Maciorowski

Your generous gi's will be distributed among the following: Catholic Chari"es, Robert Frost School, and WINGS – an organiza"on helping Domes"c Violence Vic"ms in our area. Ques6on: What do Catholics believe about

the end of the world?

Answer: We hear the phrase “the end of the

world” casually today. O'en in film or media, it means the end of civil society or the threat of human

annihila"on by natural disasters. For the Chris"an, our perspec"ve is

dis"nctly Christ-centered. Numerous "mes through the Gospel, Jesus notes that he will come again, even a'er he

has ascended into heaven. The Church typically refers to this as the Second Coming of Jesus or the La"n “Parousia,” meaning “presence” or

“arrival.”

We believe that Christ will come again, and at his Second Coming, temporal "me will end. Human

history will end, at least as we know it. However, it doesn’t mean that

crea"on will be destroyed. The book of Revela"on speaks of a renewal, indeed a “new heaven and a new earth” (Rev 21:1). Christ will come

again in glory. Our souls will be reunited with our bodies. While our lives were judged individually at our deaths, which we call the par"cular

judgment, something new will happen here. Theologians call it the

general judgment or the last judgment, in which our deeds and the

effects — for good or ill — will be known to all. For the early Chris"ans, this second coming was hoped for! They knew it was the comple"on of God’s work of redemp"on for the human race. We, too, should pray

with them, “Come Lord Jesus!”
