STUDENT ATTENDANCE
AND ITS IMPACT ON
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT:
ENGAGING PARENTS IN A
CONVERSATION AS TO WHY
ATTENDANCE MATTERS Presented by: Attendance Works
Parents & Caregivers play the most critical role ensuring that our students get to school on time, every day. Starting in early grades, chronic absence erodes a student’s chances for reading by 3rd grade and graduating from high school. National research shows that students who miss 10 percent,( which equals to 2 times a month, or more) of the school year are far less able to read by the 3rd grade, those who haven’t mastered reading by the 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out.
By attending this workshop, you will be able to:
• Understand chronic absence(missing 2 days a
month) and its impact on academic achieve- ment and future success of your child
• Discuss steps you can take to improve your child’s attendance
• Discuss barriers that keep families from attend- ing school every day and resources available in the schools and communit
