The water rate will increase $0.49 per thousand gallons, the storm water rate will increase 3.5 cents per day, and the waste collection flat-rate fee will increase $2.00 per month. Enterprise Fund Public Utilities operates as an enterprise fund, receiving no money from the federal or state government. When you pay your bill, that money funds the operations necessary to provide you with a safe and reliable water supply, essential sanitary sewer services, and fire protection. It also helps provide the funding necessary to rehabilitate and replace aging pipes, pump stations, and water tanks to protect the integrity and reliability of our systems and continue our mission of providing quality customer service. Water Services Agreement City Council adopted the extension of the Norfolk Water Services Contract and establishment of the Norfolk Water Sales Agreement in November 2018. Additional revenue from the water rate increase is necessary to offset the increased cost of this agreement. This agreement allows Virginia Beach to continue pumping its water supply from Lake Gaston to Norfolk for treatment at the Moores Bridges Water Treatment Plant. Preventative Maintenance Our City’s infrastructure must be addressed as it continues to age. By performing repairs and maintenance to aging infrastructure now, we extend the life of the asset and reduce the potential for costly and inconvenient water main breaks and sanitary sewer overflows in the future.
