a tour of Northern California or looking to relocate,
Take a walk or ride your bike on the scenic Hammond Trail, a paved trail that runs parallel to the coast from one end of McKinleyville to the other. Visit local beaches to spend the day kayaking, surfi ng, fi shing or taking a leisurely stroll looking for treasures. Many outdoor ad-ventures are just minutes away; bird watching, hiking
and camping in State Parks and forests, some of the best river fi shing in the world, whitewater rafting trips, horseback riding or taking photos of Roosevelt elk in their natural habitat. Attend a variety of festivals all over Humboldt, including our very own Pony Express Days.

rade and festival is held the fi rst weekend in June. It is a four day community event where you can enjoy a Fire-man’s Mini-Muster, chili cook-off competition, dance, gymkhana, parade down Central Avenue and our big Pony Express Family Fun Fes-tival in Pierson Park. There is something for all ages.
McKinleyville has become the fastest growing unin-corporated community on the North Coast. We are the commercial air gateway to Humboldt County with the Arcata-Eureka Airport on the north end of town. Next to the airport is the Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt
Bay headquarters. The community off ers
plenty of family activi-ties and picturesque parks. Macktown is proud to be home to a thriving business community off ering a wide variety of goods and services. There is an active senior cen-ter and established school system, with Humboldt State University only fi ve minutes away.
Humboldt County is fa-mous for its pristine coast-line, ancient redwood forests, fresh seafood, unique hand-crafted products and friendly people. Enjoy McKinleyville and its small town charm with big city services.

WhAt to See AnD DoHAMMOND COASTAL TRAIL
Hammond Coastal Trail is one of the best places in Hum-boldt County to bike, hike and jog. You could even ride a horse. Part of the California Coastal Trail, it is almost nine miles long, stretching north from the Arcata Bottoms to Clam Beach County Park. The trail was constructed on what was originally a railroad track, built in the early 1900’s, for transporting redwood logs from the Little River area to the Hammond Lumber Mill on the Samoa Spit. As a result of it being a former railway, the asphalt and crushed stone trail is quite level, which makes it an excellent place for many exercise options.
There are two distinct sec-tions of the trail. The south-ern part is a three mile paved path stretching from the Mad River Bridge, through Hiller Park continuing north to Widow White Creek. It pro-vides amazing views of the Pacifi c Ocean and the Mad River. The northern section of the trail is mostly paved and continues from Widow White Creek on to Clam Beach Coun-ty Park. Along this route, you
can see spectacular vistas of the ocean and Trinidad Head from sea level and the high bluff s. There are also plenty of places to access the beach.
*The trail can be accessed from several points throughout McKin-leyville: Hiller Road, Murray Road, Airport Road, as well as by Clam Beach County Park.
PIERSON PARK Located in the center of
McKinleyville, this park of-fers a large grass area, play-ground, three horseshoe pits and two bocce ball courts. There is a large picnic area that includes a covered bar-beque pit. Pierson Park is also the location of our annu-al Pony Express Days Festival in June. Azalea Hall and the Activity Center also provide rentable locations for indoor activities. We have a very ac-tive Senior Center which is housed in Azalea Hall.
*From Central Avenue, turn east on Pickett Road.

Complex is well worth the visit. Located on the west side of McKinleyville, this regional park and sports complex has two nicely maintained Little League fi elds, one Babe Ruth fi eld and one softball fi eld.
The park also has two youth and two collegiate soc-cer fi elds for play at all levels. There is a playground area that consists of two separate age-specifi c areas. The tot lot is great for the littlest of park-goers while older children love to climb and slide on the bigger equipment. Adjacent to the park, there are plenty of tables for picnicking. Dogs are not permitted in the play area, but there is a dog park adjacent to the play area for your four-legged family mem-bers to play. There is also a network of walking trail loops
that crisscross the recreation area.
*From Central Avenue, turn west on Hiller Road. Continue west and signs will direct you to the Hiller Sports Complex.
WORLD’S LARGEST TOTEM POLE
The world’s largest totem pole is located downtown in the McKinleyville Shop-ping Center in the center of town. The totem pole is unique because it was carved from a single redwood tree. It weighs 57,000 pounds, is 160 feet tall and was erected in 1958 as a landmark for the center of town. The carv-ing was completed by Ernest Pierson, Warren Fridley and Joan Nelson.
*From Central Avenue, turn west on City Center Road.

SIX RIVERS BREWERY
For those who enjoy sam-pling local brews, Six Rivers Brewery takes great pride in off ering a wide variety of in-house brewed specialty beers. The restaurant uses local, organic ingredients, when possible, to prepare some of the most mouthwa-tering lunch and dinners in town. Six Rivers is known as “The Brew with a View” as they are up on the hill over-looking the Pacifi c Ocean on the south end of town. They are proud to be the second fully female owned brewery in California.
*Take the Central Avenue exit o Highway 101 and head up to the top of the hill.
BEAU PREGOLF COURSE
Pine and Spruce trees line most of the fairways of this 18-hole championship golf course located on the north end of town. Views of the ponds, lush fairways and the Pacifi c Ocean from some of the elevated golf holes make Beau Pre an estheti-
cally pleasing course to play, as well as a way to main-tain your golf skills while in McKinleyville.
*From Central Avenue, turn east on Norton Road.
MILL CREEK FALLS
Located on the south end of town, this majestic 20 foot waterfall fl ows year round and is a great spot to take a break and listen to the wa-ter falling and the wildlife. We would like to remind all visitors that the fall is on private property, so please be respectful of the property and environment. Take your garbage with you.
*From Central Avenue, turn west on Turner Road. Mill Creek Falls is on the left-hand side of the road and can easily be missed. If you make a U-turn about a ¼ mile down the road, you will have no problem seeing or hearing it on your way back.

and has blossomed into a weekly hub of food, farm-ing, music and community. The Farmers’ Market is available every Thursday, rain or shine, June through October. They have a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, meat and eggs that are best grown and raised right here in Humboldt County. Often freshly picked the morning of the market, you won’t be-lieve just how fresh, crunchy, sweet and fl avorful the foods are at this hometown farm-ers market. All farmers are proud to off er produce items that are 100% GMO-free. Our farmers work diligently, rain or shine, to serve their com-munities with the freshest and highest quality products grown, raised, or produced only in Humboldt County. You can also put in an order for a handmade, wood fi red pizza to take home for din-ner. EBT cards from all states are accepted and our Market Match program helps make fresh food more aff ordable.
*Located in the heart of McKin-leyville on Central Avenue in the parking lot of Eureka Natural Foods.
CLAM BEACH COUNTY PARK
Clam Beach County Park is located on the north end of town. Beachcombing, clam-ming, fi shing, camping, pic-nicking and horseback riding are all activities that can be enjoyed on this long stretch of open, unspoiled coastal beach.
*Take the Clam Beach exit o Highway 101.
AZALEA STATE NATURE RESERVE
If you love gardens, you will love the Azalea State Na-ture Reserve, particularly in the spring when the park is in full bloom. The western azalea, Rhododendron Occi-dentale, thrives in Northern California. The beauty and scent of these multicolored trumpet-shaped blossoms is intoxicating.
Located on the south end of town, Azalea State Reserve off ers hiking trails and a pic-nic area. A short self-guided nature trail provides infor-mation about azaleas as well as other plants native to the North Coast area. To fully en-joy these beautiful western azaleas, plan to visit in April or May, when the blooms are at their peak. There is no en-trance fee and the reserve is open year-round from sun-rise to sunset.
*Take the Central Avenue exit o Highway 101 and travel east on North Bank Road to reach the reserve.
