It’s hard to believe that we have to start thinking about winter things already but, like it or not, it’s coming! At Stepping Stones, fall means we start thinking about the Winter Haven season. Have you thought about volunteering but aren’t sure if it’s for you?

The shelter can sleep up to 10 people. There are two volunteer shifts per night and two volunteers are needed for each shift— 7:30 pm - 1:30 am & 1:30 am - 7:30 am. Duties include checking guests in, serving coffee & snacks, ensuring everyone is settled for the night and awakened in the morning, setting out breakfast foods, and tidying up. It’s easy and rewarding!

NEW volunteers should fill out an application prior to the training. Applications can be found at www.steppingstonesdc.org under the ‘How to Help’ tab or picked up at Stepping Stones at 1602 Stout Rd.

Getting pledges is appreciated but not required. There’s a form to download after completing the on-line registration or a link for on-line pledging to share with your supporters. All proceeds support Stepping Stones’ programs and services so getting pledges makes all your steps count that much more!

We also need help spreading the word about the need for volunteers. Please tell your friends, family, colleagues, churchgroups, civic organizations, etc. If there are no volunteers to take a shift the shelter must close and we don’t want that! Volunteers must be 18 or older.

If you plan to volunteer through a church—there are several that take full weeks—please contact Jill for the training date for your church. Current churches are 1st Congregational, Cedarbrook, Love, & St. Joseph’s. We’d love to have more!

It’s hard to believe that we have to start thinking about winter things already but, like it or not, it’s coming! At Stepping Stones, fall means we start thinking about the WinterHaven season. Have you thought about volunteering but aren’t sure if it’s for you?

The shelter can sleep up to 10 people. There are two volunteer shifts per night and twovolunteers are needed for each shift— 7:30 pm - 1:30 am & 1:30 am - 7:30 am. Dutiesinclude checking guests in, serving coffee & snacks, ensuring everyone is settled for the night and awakened in the morning, setting out breakfast foods, and tidying up. It’s easy and rewarding!

NEW volunteers should fill out an application prior to the training. Applications can be found at www.steppingstonesdc.org under the ‘How to Help’ tab or picked up at Stepping Stones at 1602 Stout Rd.

All trainings are held at the shelter located at 1518 Stout Road.Volunteers can park at Stepping Stones and then walk next doorto the shelter (white house w/ porch.)

Here are some words of encouragement from volunteer, Nita Fitzgerald: “My eyes and heart are opened when I get to know thelife situations of guests at Winter Haven. … [The shelter] is a gift to our community, both for the folks who need shelter and also for the volunteers who have their worlds enriched and enlarged when they step inside.”

Delicious chili & cornbread feed follows (free to participants) at Riverside Park, adjacent to the trail.

First 100 registrants receive a t-shirt & swag bag.

Medals for walker & runner best times—categories for children & adults.

Prizes for top pledge-getters. Getting pledges is appreciated but not required. There’s a form to download after completing the on-line registration or a link for on-line pledging to share with your supporters. All proceeds support Stepping Stones’ programs and services so getting pledges makes all your steps count that much more!
